I finally decided that I needed a full size all steel 9mm. I have had an SR9 for quite a while but wanted to try something different. It was my first handgun. Nothing wrong with it, fuctioned and felt right to me. As far as striker fired pistols go, the trigger was excellent. But as time went on I started to gain an appreciation for more traditional designs. Guns arent cheap though, unfortunatley I had to sell the SR.

Enter the CZ75. I went with the decocker version. Namely the CZ75BD Police. I like the decocker feature for my purposes, plus the "police" designation added a couple little bells and whistles. Price was right too.

I have only had time to put about two hundred round through it, but so far I am in love with this thing. I thought the SR fit my hands well. I was wrong. The grip feel and general ergonomics of the CZ cannot be matched. The solid feel invites confidence. The balance is much better than most top heavy polymer pistols. Some reviews complain about the girth and long trigger reach. I experience none of those problems. My hands may be above average in size, but not not by much. It surely is not well suited to carry, but as a range and HD gun.... perfect!

The trigger is good, not excellent though. DA pull weight is on the heavy side. Some gritiness as well. It will hiopefully smooth out with time. The weight I dont mind so much seeing as how the heavy trigger is the primary saftey. I will rarely shoot it in DA mode anyhow. The SA pull is quite good though. It doesnt rival my modded Ruger Mark III or many 1911's out there, but for an out of the box, duty oriented pistol it will do just fine. Little bit of creep, but smooth and as light as it really needs to be. I sure cant complain. My groups are already better than I was getting with the SR9. The heft makes it a pleasure to shoot.

I already picked up a set of factory rubber grips. Plus there is a variety of other aftermarket goodies out there to be had. I might tinker with springs in the near future. Competition sights might be nice too. A hammer from CZcustom or CGW sounds nice, but that can wait a while.

Only downside I have found is that the chamber has a very short lead. Nearly everything I have left over from the SR9 will not fully chamber in the CZ. I mostly reload truncated cone bullets. Regular round nose probably wouldnt have been much of an issue. No big deal really, just gives me a reason to work up some new loads.

Sorry for the rant. Just wanted to share my opinion with those who might be interested.

Congrats on the new CZ. CGW makes some good parts that will make a great gun even better.

The CZ75's trigger will get better with use. I really love mine and enjoy the design in general, as I've bought two other guns built by Canik that share the CZ75 design.

I think you're going to keep loving the CZ75, there's a reason their reputation is so good, because they're quality firearms.

The Police is a fine choice. The extras are really nice over a BD.

Carrying one is not that bad. It can be quite comfy with the right setup.

I forget the right spring/follower combo but you can obtain up to 24 rounds in a 18 round mag IIRC. Great for the range or house.

You will love it more and more everyday. Great choice!!

OK, so now I am curious, what are the extras? I thought it was mainly a loaded chamber indicator and a lanyard ring?

I think the 75BD is my overall favorite of the steel framed 9mm service style pistols I have tried, despite the fact that it is one of the few pistols that makes me feel like I have stubby fingers. I would like a lanyard ring just for giggles but I would never use it so I don't count the lack against the basic BD.

Congrats on the new CZ. :)

Congrats on your new CZ,,,

Congrats on your new CZ,,,
I have the Plain Jane CZ-75B and love it.

I researched and handled/fired just about every decent 9mm made,,,
The CZ-75B was a standout in performance and hand fit,,,
And like all the others have said beforehand,,,
The trigger just gets better and better.

Congrats! I love my CZ-75BD as well, it's my favorite of the CZ handguns. It would definitely make it onto my top ten list of all time favorite handguns and probably be close to the top.

On a side note, when I was in the Czech Republic about a month ago I sent an email to CZ and asked if I could visit their factory in Uhersky Brod. I got a very nice email back from someone there saying they would be happy to give me a tour. Sadly I couldn't squeeze it into my schedule, however on the next trip I am determined to do it! I did however make it to the CZ store in Prague, that was incredible! In case you weren't aware the Czech Republic is a very gun friendly country!

Congrats on your new pistol, it was a fine choice IMO. The trigger will get better with time. I like the factory rubber grips and have them on several of mine.

CZ75 BD Police has:
Lanyard loop, LCI, extended & textured mag release, serrated trigger, checkering on front and back straps.
Some have the word Police on the slide.
Some don't but have front cocking serrations instead.

CZUSA sells the lanyard loop on their webstore if you want one.

I've seen pictures of the CZ store. So awesome. Hope I can get there myself one day.

Even with the extra little features of the BD Police it was the cheapest of the many model variants available at my LGS. That didnt effect my decision much, as I had already made up my mind on which model I was after, but I made a point to mention that I felt like I was getting a deal. They said that this particular pistol was old stock and the next shipment they received would be going up. How much fact that actually is, idk.

My theory on why it might have been lower priced than others:

Some people dont like a decocker. I have no problem with it. Actually prefer it. I dont plan on carrying it, even if I did I am not sure that would go "cocked and locked." One reason I choose to carry a revolver is tha absence of any safety to disengage. Mainly, I wanna be able to safely lower the hammer indoors to prepare the weapon for storage in my electronic quick access safe. For range time, the type of safety is of little concern to me. If I load it, I will be shooting it.

The LCI is another eyesore for some. I do agree that on some pistols it is downright ugly. However, this particular one is not too bad. It hardly stands out to the eye, but offers good tactile feedback. I dont love it, but dont hate it either. My SR had one. A BIG one. At first I didnt mind, but the more I looked at it, the more I loathed it.

The other upgrades like the serrated trigger and checkering on the front and back straps are highly desireable IMO. Although I may never use it, the lanyard loop is neat. Ads an interesting old school look.

For $50 or more less than the other models, idk why a person would buy anything else?

Sounds like you got a great deal.

I could be wrong but I don't think I have ever seen a police model in person. Not that I have seen a huge selection of CZs at most local stores. :(

I am planning on a quick range trip this afternoon. I'll snap a pic or two.

On your reloads you will probably have to load everything shorter including round nose.. All my CZs are that way so once you figure out the OAL on your rounds you will be good to go. Enjoy the new gun.

Repeated dry firing can smooth the trigger, but it is particularly important to use a dry snap with the CZ75s.

A great service sized firearm!

Only on models without the Firing pin block the old models (pre B), combat, and shadows are fine to dry fire all day long. By replacing the firing pin and firing pin retaining pin with CGW parts and you can dry fire on any model.

All CGW parts are great but some of the most noticeable are the Comp sights, disco, and hammer. Rounds will help smooth the trigger out over time but the hammer hooks are high enough on the stock hammer to cause negative camming. The easiest way to improve things of course is spend money. The CGW hammer and sear will really improve the SA and help clean up the DA. The disconnector is one of the most noticeable mods because it take a lot of the pre travel out of the SA. Lastly CGW makes some great sights at really improve the sight picture and are well worth the money.

Went shooting with the two daughters today, partly to break in my 75B, bought this year before the fascists in our state government find a way to make such a purchase impossible.

I think the youngest daughter has claimed it. She shot it over and over again, expressing happiness with it's ergonomics, trigger and accuracy. I do believe it is the new "most popular" pistol around here.

Money well spent. Wait and hassle well worth it.

Looks great! I kind of like the POLICE marking on the slide along with the lanyard loop. Sort of sets it apart from other CZ75s.

Nice! I decided I need a 9mm, and I've been looking at a CZ 75B or a BHP. I think I've decided on the 75...

If you don't mind me asking, what did it set you back?

$499. Its weird. The most basic 75B model sells for about $550 at every LGS I checked out. The exotic stainless and SA models are quite a bit more yet. I was pleased to find the Police version at such a relatively low cost.

At the time, the shop I purchased it from had about every model available. Most others had one two.

That's a fantastic price.

I saw a 75BD in a shop about 2 weeks ago for $507 or thereabouts (under $510). Went to give it a second look and it was gone.

Nice, good idea. They are very hard to find now due to manufacturing schedules. I called and apparently they make certain models at different timed of the year, and no one has the P01's or compacts, right now.
If you hear of any p01's in 9mm, NIB, please let me know, thanks
