For medical reasons I can't wear pants or shorts until sometime this summer. Between now and then I'll be wearing overalls.

The "bib" pocket in overalls is very good for CC, IMHO, but the pieces I normally carry in cargo pants or shorts don't fit that pocket properly. The handguns and holsters are slightly too small, and can turn around in that pocket so that they're facing the wrong way and would be slow/difficult to draw.

So I opened up the gun safe and started sticking handgun/holster combinations into my overalls pocket until I found the one that fit the best.

I was pleased to discover that it's my Charter Arms Bulldog (44 special, with a shrouded hammer). I'm more of a revolver guy, and there's something very pleasing about having big fat rounds like that in my pocket. I loaded up some wadcutters before I went on errands yesterday, but I'll dig through my ammo tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I have a box of 44 special hollowpoints in there somewhere.

I bought the Bulldog used around five years ago. The only trouble it ever gave me was that one of its screws was slightly loose when I got it. It's never misfired or jammed up in any way. I shoot it as well (or poorly) as any of my other snub revolvers.

Does anyone else around here like to CC a "big bore" revolver? If you carry a 44 special, I'd appreciate suggestions on ammunition. I don't even recall what kind of hollowpoints that I have a box of. I'll order some good SD ammo in the next day or two.

I carry a .44 mag from time to time. I have been using the hornady critical duty in .44 spl however a friend gave me a couple boxes of the Underwood load that looks to be a dandy, I would recommend however that you pay strict attention to whatever load you put in your .44 the bulldog cannot handle certain loadings that manufacturers mention the bulldog by name. The safe one that Underwood makes:

Looks like they're sold out however, every caliber has been hit hard looks like

44Spl Boomer & Pitbull 45ACP

Bulldog 44spl can handle any standard pressure loads .. the +P stuff is a no no .. but its not needed or wanted in a 21oz small frame revolver ...
Seems like 200gr Speer Gold dot is the Gold standard

I have a 44spl for +P loads its a 34oz 44mag

Sorta close to a big bore is my Charter Bulldog in
40 S&W ..a wide array of SD ammo available

Pic comparing the Charter Boomer & a 642
I think just a couple of ounces difference in weight

I carry the Bull Dog. It and the Mag Pug get carried the most. I like CA revolvers. I load my own--240 grn RNFP over Red Dot or Unique. These loads are taken from the Max loading of the ctg found in the Lyman Cast Bullet reloading manual.

When I was a young man all the old men I knew wore pretty much nothing but overalls. Center pocket on their chest all had the wear lines of a (usually) .32 revolver as they were the common, small, light, option of the day.

Good option you have selected!

That reminds me of a story my Dad told me ... I will share someday

Once in a while when I'm feeling froggy I'll vary my original Bulldog. Light and powerwise like having a five shot acp.

Seems like the real deal would be easy enough...and you would have adjustable sights!
