New Handgun...Need Help

I cant decide on what i want to get for my next handgun. I already have a 4583TSW from S&W and am looking for something a bit smaller that i can use for my CCW. Ill take any suggestions as long as its not a Glock. All of the glocks ive fired so far just dont feel right in my hands.

"...just dont feel right in my hands...." That's reason enough not to buy one. They fit my hand, but I find 'em kind of slippery. Mind you, Pachmayr makes a slip on grip that makes that go away.
"...looking for something a bit smaller..." Smaller in what way? Barrel length, grip size, width, calibre? You happy with your Smith in general? They make a lot of smaller pistols. Their Model 457S comes with a 3.75" barrel and weighs29 oz. Not much different from your current pistol though. One ounce less.

Want something that will be easier to conceal. Im willing to bump down to a 9mm but would prefer to stay at .40 or .45 I definitely want something lighter, my current handgun is 30oz unloaded. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love it, and its more than reliable just not my ideal size for my CCW.

Kahr same size a a PPK but u can get it in a 40cal. Love mine perfect for CCW.

if glock is not an option i'd say khar or a compact MP
I own a fulsize MP45 i love it i can't think of one bad thing to say about it
i've owned a khar it shot pretty good only reason i traded it off was it had no safety what so ever so thats way i like the MP over the khar but both are fine pistols,go to your local gunshop pick them both up see witch one feels better to you,remember to ask the dealer to change out the backstrapes on the MP it comes with a large,med,small to adjust to your hand

I bought a Glock in 1987 and it was always 100%, but I could just never shoot it well. I sold it a couple years ago and bought a Sig P239 in 9mm. Man what a difference! I didn’t think it was possible to have the holes in the paper actually touch each other instead of looking like a blast of buckshot. If there is a range near you that rents pistols, try the Sig as well as any others you can. The way the pistol feels in your hand is very important to how well you’ll be able to shoot it.

Ah yes grasshopper, you learn quickly.

Go to your local gun pusher (legal one, of course) and handle some. There are many that will look fine but just "don't feel right". The only way to tell is to handle one of that model.

When it comes to CCW, many people discount Commander size 1911s (4"). I have no problems with those. If you want even smaller, the Kimber Ultra is a three inch "Officers" size that does very well. Both are available in 9mm, 40S&W and .45ACP.

Having pushed 1911s, I'll also say the the older Kahrs K-40 and K-9 (all steel frames) are good if you like DAO. I don't like the plastic frames of the current models. Once again, what feels good to you?

I really like my XD40 SC. I use the short clip for IWB and the extended when not concealed. Safety features wont hinder you when you need to use it. Comfortable to shoot and dependable. Good choice IMO.

I would suggest a S&W CS45. A smaller verstion of your 4583 and you can use your 4583 magazines as spares for either gun.
