Hey, everyone.
I just got a new Century Arms catalog, lo and behold, there is a C93 rifle there. An HK33 clone. Looks okay on picture, even has a carrying hadle a-la FN-FAL.
The question is: has anyone handled these rifles and fired them.
Century has a questionable reputation, however, I own a Century C-91 in 308 and Century arms L1A1. Both WORK without a single issue and eat just about any ammo I throw on them, including Wolf and Brown Bear.
I hear Century Arms "horror stories", however, both of my Century rifles work just fine.
What I want to know is how good or bad is the C93. After Vector Arms folded, nobody makes an HK33 clone. I am very interested in getting C-93, but if the Century Arms are doing a crappy job, I would rather forget about it.
BTW, is the barrel chrome lined or not? If the barrel is not chrome lined, can someone tell me where I can get a chrome lined HBAR for HK33 clone?

Now, I already have SAIGA 223, I already have an AR180B custom (with a 24" bushmaster HBAR on it). So, the only 223 rifle that I am interested in getting would be a HK33 clone.

Thank you for your help, folks. I know that if anyone has any reliable data on the C93 it is someon here.

Wait, so they have a crappy rep, but both of yours work fine! :)

I usually see a few comments or concerns for Century, but no more than other manufacturers. The ones I have work just fine, and for the money they are extra pretty in my book.

My personal experience with them has been mixed -- I have one of their infamous FALs that runs great, and had one of their Yugo AKs where they'd improperly installed the Tapco trigger group (and which should have been apparent had they test fired more than a couple rounds through it). Simple fix once the problem was diagnosed, but sloppy.

I wouldn't avoid them entirely (and the HK93 clone is specifically interesting), but do consider them more of a buyer-beware situation than most companies.

I'm hoping someone will buy one and review it here on THR. They're a neat looking rifle. Too bad mags are expensive.

While I'm thinking about it, are there any inexpensive .223 semi auto's that take AR-15 mags? I can't bring myself to drop a grand or more for an AR-15.

For under a $1000, you can...
... get a Kel-Tec SU-16 series rifle
... get a RAA Saiga-223 with AR mag adaptor
... build your own AR15 clone

Worth the money

I picked one up 2 weeks ago. Since then I put over 250 rounds of green tip ammo through it. It was great. No hang-ups or feeding issues. Build quality is decent, it looks excellent. Some observations: Action was very stiff out, almost impossible to work out of the box. It needed a mighty cleaning. The stock is on so tight I needed to work it off with a nylon punch and hammer. The trigger assembly appeared new. As the gun was assembled from surplus HK33's, the bolt head and innards looked like you would expect from a well used HK33. They have worn look to them, especially the nylon washers on the recoil springs. It woks though. The bolt head also looked recut. Headspace was OK. When taken apart there was a lot of grit in both the action and the cocking tube like it was sand blasted and the sand stuck to the oil. The flash hider, held by a friction spring, loosened up after the shooting session and required some tightening. Overall though for half the price of a Vector rifle and far cheaper than am H&K.... it was well worth the purchase, it looks great, shoots straight, very reliable so far.

Anybody else get one yet? Ordered one from JG Sales and am cautiously hopeful after seeing pictures of a few elsewhere. Figured it was worth a try for $800.
