I have a lot of - let's call them 'unusual-' guns. Most often the only options if I want a holster for them is to either commission a custom holster- which I cannot afford- or make one myself. So I've been working at getting better at making holsters.
Last weekend I was packing 'The Outlaw' on a deer hunt and had to use a holster for a different gun. It worked OK but decided it was time for it to have it's own. So between other projects I have been working on a simple western-style holster. It's made from 7-8oz. tooling leather, unlined, and the double-needle whip-stitched edges are done with #7 linen cord. The whole thing is finished with Fiebing's Carnauba wax finish.
I'll be trying it out this weekend, but so far I like it fine. I admit, I'm not usually keen on holsters that leave the trigger exposed but it's impossible to cock the hammer with the thong in place and I know enough not to touch the trigger unless I want the gun to go off, so it shouldn't be an issue.
