I have looked for a floor standing gun rack, but have not been happy with what I have found. They seemed pricey and the quality sucks. So this one is hade made, solid red oak. Pictures are a little dark, but not too bad. What do you think?

As a woodworker, I like it. I suppose you could pad the barrel slots with the soft side of velcro or better yet something cotton based.

Did you use a router and template primarily for the cutouts?

Hey nice job. Now fill the empty slots :]. Where I work they were throwing out a wooden crate [23in.wide x 21 in. deep x 5ft.long]. I thought to myself that that could be a deciant gun locker/cabinet. So I am in the process of painting it up and getting angle iron to reinforce the corners and some hinges.

I will be putting some felt in the area where the barrel rests.

A hole saw and a jig saw to make the cut outs. On the bottom, there are two pieces of wood. The top one has the cut outs and then it is screwed and glued to the bottom piece that is just solid. The a router to do the edges. It is hard to see form the pictures, but the edges are either rounded or roman ogee.

I can fill the slots. I just did not for the pictures because the guns hid the wood. Funny thing about this (to me anyhow) is that my wife always gets mad if I have my guns out (we don't have kids so there isnt a safety issue-she just doesn't like it.) Now, she said that this can not go in the basement reloading room. It has to be out where people can see it because it is really nice.

Good looking piece of woodworking.

My only concern would be that the width is so great that a cross brace might be needed to keep it from shifting to the side once it has weight in it.

Nice rack!

Now follow up with the felt, bolt it to the floor and run a hardened security cable through it and you're finished.

:)
