I was just watching the idiot box and the State Farm Insurance commercial came on. The one where the pitch man is standing in front of a news stand. I realize the rows of magazines shown in the background are fakes to avoid royalty or copyright issues with the magazines. But up in the top right corner of the rack is "Gun Ho" magazine. Look at the attacked picture of the paused tv.

Really? Gun Ho? Could they not have picked a better fake title? Or is this tacit endorsement of the political satire cartoon showing Palin's fake twitter account with her picture and the user name "Gun-Ho"? As a gun ho myself, I'm a little miffed at what I perceive as a slam of all gun owners. I'm glad I give my insurance money to the gecko every month.....

Your observation is not without companion! I noticed this a week or two ago as well when blankly scanning the TV during the commercial. Here's what's odd: I worked at State Farm as a Sr. Infrastructure Analyst for almost ten years, and my dad did the same for 30 years prior to me. The corp. headquarters is in a gun/hunting-heavy area, central Illinois (Bloomington and surrounding areas). VERY heavy on the outdoors pursuits there.

I can only guess that the "hip" advertising people they're using to try and be cool along with the newer companies did this. I know several of the higher echelon guys personally and they are .600-nitro toting, expedition-having type of guys. If I see it again in another commercial, I'm going to ask my contacts what the deal is.

you people do realize that 99.999% of the people watching that add are not going through it scene by scene analyzing the magazines in the background....i honestly think you are being a little paranoid.

Your lack of observational skills do not equate to my being paranoid because I pay attention to stuff :)

Some of the magazines are real...I see "Car and Driver" in there and some other car ones I reccognize.

I'm not in front of my computer at the moment to mess with the image, but I think it says gung ho. With the g being blue with a star in the middle.

Gung Ho was an actual magazine back in the 1980's. It was similar to Soldier of Fortune and I have an old copy somewhere.

Stuff like this happens all the time. The designer, who was probably in a rush, likely spent somewhere around ten minutes on each of those covers, had gotten bored with designing covers for fake podiatrist and finance magazines, and decided to do something halfway amusing.

I wasa gonna say, there is Gung Ho as well as some pretty funky publications around these parts.
There's for instance a gun rag dedicated specifically to the GLBT community with informative articles on how to coneal a full size 1911 as a cross dresser. And I can assure you, the title is pretty non-PC.

Lots of different people shoot. And personally, I'd find a gun rag aimed at nerds, for instance pretty darned cool.

I'm always too distracted by the spokesman of these commercials as he tends to remind me of a Team America: World Police character. Because of this, the whole message is lost on me (subliminal or otherwise).

Gun-Ho...sounds like a great idea for a magazine. Will it be delivered in a plain looking yellow envelope? Where do I subscribe?

I think this might be a non issue... I don't think the anti gun left is capable of being that subtle.

Also, my family has had a good experience under state farm. :)

Yea it was simply a play off of the phrase gung-ho or the magazine that shared the similar nomenclature.
