New J Frame and LCR, should i be worried?

I just picked up a brand new Ruger LCR and J Frame for the wife and I. Noticed a couple of things that, after thinking about it for a while, made me wonder if it is anything i should worried about

Let me say first off, if it is purely cosmetic it doesn't bother me

The first thing is on my LCR, there is what looks to be a scratch on the outside of the top strap. I do want to make sure this is not a hairline fracture or something that actually affects frame







The second thing is on my J Frame. Inside there is a large place of bare metal. I know this will make the gun dangerous to shoot or affect the shooting, but does this have the potential to have enough rust issues to worry about? I will keep it cleaned and oiled, but this is a pretty large area of exposed metal. Seems deeper than holster wear would be. Also is this common for S&W? Honestly seems a little sloppy of a finish job

My 442 has the same mark as your J-Frame. It has no rust. It's a few years old. As for the LCR mine has no mark in that area. My LCR357 has at least 3500 rounds. It shows only wear on the finish from carry.

I have the same bare spot on my 442 came that way from the factory Ive Seen others as well with it my guess is that during assembly its done to insure proper fit, still it doesn't seem right ...

The 442 has an alloy frame, so that mark won't be rusting anytime soon.

Smith and Wesson....

If it really bugs you, just contact Smith & Wesson.
They can either correct it or send you a brand new, unfired 442 .38spl snub.
S&W has a lifetime service plan so don't get uptight over it, .

Wear marks, scuffs & abrasions are annoying.

Doesn't bother me, i was more surprised than anything

The LCR looks like it made contact with an object and got scratched. The S&W has a finish flaw, cause unknown. Despite the appearance of being blued, it is actually some sort of coating or plating. Maybe it didn't adhere properly in that spot. I can't see either of these purely cosmetic issues causing a problem with shooting, but if the guns are brand new, they shouldn't have these flaws.
