New Kahr PM9 Today--Update on Range!

Got my PM9 today and will take it to the range for break in tomorrow. Got it for carry instead of the P3AT.

Hit the range this morning and put 100 WWB and 100 Remington UMC down range followed by 42 various personal defense rounds. Not one problem! Very happy with this piece, especially the trigger. Will clean and start carrying with Remington Golden Saber 124 grain rounds. Also ordered two additional mags today.

Don't shoot lead bulets. Like a Glock, jacked bullets only.

Take your time and get a lot of range time to get used to the double action.
Once you have, you will be very pleased with it. Don't forget, it is recommened
that you put 200 rounds through it to break it in.

None, other then perhaps that first round on each mag may give you problems at first the little fellows are very tight, may be helpful at first to load a round short.
My MK9 was one of the first guns I "over lubed" first 200 rounds it was
very tight, I carried FP10 to range and added some during shoot, I had no
malfunctions of any type and that continues today over 1000 rounds, trigger
is excellent(and I never liked DA). Have fun.!!!

I Love my PM-9. Such a nice little pistol that still packs a punch.

I shot 200 rounds through mine just minutes after I bought it just to give er a good break in. I used WWB and some American Eagle ammo. My PM-9 shot it all without a hiccup.

A few days later I grabbed several types of defense ammo and shot them into wet newsprint to see how they would work out of the short 3" barrel. Gold Dots and Hydra shoks did fine. Some others did not expand as nicely and one 115gr I tried shed its jacket. So after that moment I carried 124gr. GDs.

A few months after that I purchased some 124gr.+p GDs to see how they would work out of the short barrel. They worked great! They expanded more fully than the standard GDs, which was already pretty good. They also gave a bit more penetration. Good expansion and penetration!! I was sold. So now I carry the 124gr+p GDs.

I have heard that Ranger 124gr.+p are good too however I have not, as of yet, tried them out. I will have to give them a go as those expanded bullets with the wicked sharp "petals" look like they would put a capital O in Ouch!! They will have to earn their place against the Gold Dots.

The first time I fired my PM-9 it was a bit snappy, but now that I am just north of 1200 rnds fired with the PM-9. I don't really notice any more. Even with the +p ammo I now carry.

Did I mention that I like my PM-9 . . .

The GDs I'm using are 124 gr. +P. Had a box of Win 147 grain SXT Ranger ammo, but forgot to take them to the range. Next week!

Question on lube for the rail grooves. I use Tetra Gun Grease on all my Sigs and other autos. Used FP-10 on the rails of the PM9 today and it worked fine, but I'm thinking that the Tetra grease will not break down as fast in warmer weather. Comments?

Hey Tim,

I use Ezox to clean and lube my pistols. My PM-9 get cleaned about once a week in warm weather and I wipe it down with a silicone cloth at the end of each day. I have tried some Militec grease on my Sig P229. The grease worked well but I suggest using less than I did because when the pistol got hot from shooting the lube was oozing out around the rails. With the Militec grease a little goes a long way. I have never tried the tetra gun grease.

One of the ammos I tried in the PM-9 was the Black box Winchester SXT 147gr. ammo. In my PM-9 they did not open all the way. The recovered bullet looked like a star nosed mole and the bullet penetrated as far as my FMJ test round in the wet news print. I heard the newer Ranger ammo is better so I will have to pick up some to try out.

My experience in the Houston heat is that Tetra grease doesn't stay put much better than Break-Free CLP once the foaming carrier has evaporated.

I've been very happy with the Dupont "Performance"Teflon Lubes and Grease. Slick, dry, and they stay put once the carrier evaporates. And they are cheap <$5 a can at Lowe's.

Ref the DuPont product, is that specifically the "DuPont Teflon Multi-use Lubricant" that I found when I Googled it? If so, will get some this weekend.
