Couldn't say it better myself. We're comparing (if prior Keltecs are any measure) a Chevy GEO with a tried and true Volvo. Both will get you there but which would you rather have?

Having been an auto technician for all of my adult life, I'll take the import with a Chevy label. Volvo's are junk. Oil leaks galore, electronic control malfunctions abound and every trip to the shop has a four-figure price tag. I just shipped a 2005 S-40 that bit a curb at 20 MPH in a snowstorm; $2,743 later and he was off to the body shop to repair the fender where the tire shoved it behind the door. At 23K miles, it was already leaking oil from the valve cover and pan. Did I mention that Volvo's are really no safer than any other reputable automobile? Oh yeah, they're European too:barf:

Back to the gun, Kel-Tec is on a roll and I would expect sales of this new pistol to soar. Probably not like the P3's, but good still. It seems that this is really more a refined version of the P-11, adressing cosmetic and ergonomic issues. I bet it'll take some of the wind out of Kahr sales, since a guy can buy one for him and one for his wife for close to what a Kahr costs.
I'd guess the retail price on these will be around $250. I might get one, but I have so many damned 9mm's floating around already.

I just called Kel Tec and they said the PF9 will be available "sometime after May." I asked, "Does that mean June?" which is, of course, after May. She just kept saying, "Sometime after May."

Denny has asked me to write one up for SWAT magazine.

I'll be sure to shoot the living heck out of it. :)

She didn't say WHICH May :neener:

I have never known a new gun be available in stores within 4 months of its "availability date".

If I see one of these things for sale before Santa arrives I'll be happily surprised.

Looks like this will be my first 9mm. I love it. I have .45's and .40's and a .357 s&w revolver and some .22 plinkers but have been looking for a good 9mm and this one is sweet! Thanks for the posts and info! Looking forward to it!!!!!!

I never wanted to get one of the brand-spanking-new guns cause I expected them to need a little time to get the kinks out. I'd probably actually rather wait a little while.

They've already lost my money--I bought a 642 for my pocket gun and couldn't be happier. I got a good one.

Maybe I don't pay enough attension to the ads and rumors, but I saw the Taurus 24/7-PRO in 45ACP before I'd heard they'd redone the trigger. Took almost three months to find one in 9mm that I bought (good gun for the price, but I prefer .40S&W or .45ACP for carry).

I'd want to see the new 24/7-PRO compacts before deciding on the new Kel-Tec or the P11. This one definitely has been hyped before availablity.

Guns that are small for their caliber are a large part of my collection so I'll probably end up with a P11 and PF-9 eventually.

How do you know, you "couldn't be happier"?

Because I've shot quite a few 642s over the years and haven't found one I like shooting until I got my own. It exceeded all my expectations by a long shot and I couldn't be happier with it, which is, of course, the context of my comment.

As for the rest since you are so kind to ask, I'm pleased with the way my personal life is going. Perhaps I could be happier, but I'm pretty damned happy, and to ask for more would seem greedy.

Kel-tec

Lots of press, but where the heck is it? Too much hype and no product deliveries makes expectations rise along with criticisms when it finally does.

I'd love a gun that small, but my PT145 is just fine for now. Again, I'm with many in the "you buy one first and tell what you think" camp.

Again, where are they? Taurus already has their 24/7 compact with DA/SA trigger out, why is Kel Tec dragging their feet on a product with such a fervor stirring? Still in development? A concept gun? What's the deal KelTec, come on, make us proud.

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone heard anything on the Skyy MPX-9? This sounds like it will be closer to the Rohrbaugh size than the P-11 (and PF-9) size . I have neither used any of Skyy's products nor known anyone who has, but it seems like an interesting pocket pistol. According to their website(http://www.skyyindustries.com/), it is slated for release some time this summer. I would be very interested in any further information.

I hope its good to prod kel-tec along in that direction, but I have to say right now I'm pretty biased against skyy. They hit some forums up with deceptive advertising off the bat with a couple guys from the company posing as satisfied customers, they stock a manual safety on their kel-tec clone, and I've heard reports of firing pins breaking. As it stands right now I don't have faith in them as a company, but I'd like to see that change.
