New Long Range Rifle Just Arrived...

Granted.

Methinks that the Barrett would have better suited Maverick223 as it comes with two magazines.

From time to time, I end up at the range with an AI-AW but no magazine. The field-expedient way to do it is to fold and fit a piece of cardboard and tape it so it stays in the mag well. At least then, I can throw a round in the port and shoot, other than sort of guiding it all the way into the chamber with two hands.

Right you are Zak...no bullpup goodness on the new Barrett...and thanks for the cardboard tip...simple, but it sounds like it would be an effective temporary solution.

Yokel the two magazines with the Barrett are a great addition...but I am uncertain that I could afford to fill them. :neener:

Mav, congratulations on the arrival of the SRS ... what a beauty!! If it shoots half as good as it looks you'll be more than happy. You've put together a world class combination there with the PRH scope and I look forward to hearing anything and everything you have to say about both.

I do have a question though. Why the heck do you have the scope butted up against the front ring? Why not center it between the rings and then move the whole mount forward to get the proper eye relief?

By the way, I don't want to hijack your thread but I picked up a POF SPR in .308 the other day. I'll be dialing in the scope this weekend and starting to work up loads for it. I'll try to post photos this weekend.

:)

Uh, the smith did that (I haven't gotten my torque screwdriver so he torqued everything to spec for me)...and I didn't notice till I got it home...good eye, it will change soon. :)

Highway robbery...:neener: I Look forward to hearing about it, I have considered getting a piston AR, but I don't like the calibers offered in most (I would love a 6.5G, but could probably live with a .243 or .260)...at any rate I am in no hurry to get one (lots of other projects on my plate at the moment) and eventually I think someone (preferably POF).

Good to hear that you're gonna fix it though ... and once you do, I strongly suggest that you send some photos over to DTA ... your photos are better than anything they have on their web site. I'm not interested in seeing some tosser acting all tactical ... just show me the friggin' rifle with lots of closeup shots! OK ... rant over. :D

Did I mention what an awesome rifle and scope that is ... all the more stunning in its simplicity. Congrats again.

:)

Thanks and I agree, their photos are pretty bad, not that I am a great photographer...they need close ups for some of the details. In their defense I believe the guy in the pics is their shooter (would be a horrible job wouldn't it :D), a local SWAT sniper (just going by the attire and Nick saying that they had a SWAT sniper shooting for them IIRC).

Thanks 1858. :)

There is a pretty trick rear monopod in the works too. It replaces 2 of the LOP spacers in the rear of the rifle. When not deployed, it's flush with the bottom of the rifle and no one would even know it was on there. With TONS of adjustment range and lightweight construction, it's going to be a must have item on the DTA in my opinion. Doubt they are going to be available from DTA, but ya never know what the future may hold. MSRP looks to be around $200, maybe less. Depends on the cost of anodizing which seems to constantly fluctuate these days.

I'd still rather see lots of detailed photos of the rifle, bolt, barrel(s), mag release, trigger, action screws etc without someone obscuring the view. Any plans to add TROY or similar folding BUIS?

:)

Will definitely look into one, never used one but a monopod looks like it would be handy. :)

As would I...and I thought about it, but where, the scope is about 1/3,000,000 of an inch from the rail. Needless to say Nick (the designer) was not kidding when he said that a 56mm Objective was the max. I could always go gangsta' and go with side sights a la Homeboy Nyte Sytes. :D It is something that I would like to have available, but I don't think that I am willing to obscure the front of the scope to attain (although I know that the effect should be minimal). :)

1858, I have 4 of them, I'll try and get you some pics as requested.

The benefit of the monopod really comes into play from the observation standpoint. Continually punching/fluffing a rear bag or staying on target can become fatiguing. With the FGW monopod, you turn the lever 1/2 a turn, the foot attached to a stainless steel rod drops to the ground. Tighten the level back that 1/2 turn and you're there. Fine adjustments can be made via the threaded foot. Here's a video of a rear monopod project I worked on with the AICS.

I see what you mean about the objective bell being very close to the rail, but you definitely wouldn't see a TROY front battle sight folded down at the end of the rail. In fact, with that 56mm objective, a front sight would have no deleterious affect. I mounted a TROY HK style folding battle sight in a similar position on the POF this afternoon. I couldn't see the sight with it up let alone with it down!! :what: You could always tape a box of matches or something appropriately sized where the sight would go and see how it affects your view through the scope. I'm a big fan of BUIS ... you never know when you'll need them.

kgunz11, I have a couple of rifles in AICS stocks so that pod is definitely of interest to me. PM me the details if you can.

Thanks.
:)

Alright your big eyed smiley has me convinced...I may give em' a shot, I think it should fit under the ocular without any trouble. :)

Have to agree...picked up some factory Federal rounds for $17 earlier this week...just plinkin' rounds but good enough for sighting in and playing with it...and thanks
I see why right below you. Lol.

You won't regret it and there's plenty of room beneath the ocular bell for a rear folding battle sight. I personally like the HK front sight from TROY. I have this set on three AR rifles ... two AR-15s and an AR-10. I don't think there's a better BUIS system out there.

TROY does build a good set of sights...and I like HK sights. Dang it 1858...costing me money again...and there is a gun show tomorrow. :banghead:

Hopefully pics of some ammo... .380 in particular, as I just bought a new LCP earlier last week...and have found a grand total of a clip full (that I had lying around) to put through it. :)

OP, you mention reversing the bi-pod to fold forward. Do you think there might be any chance of it folding up under recoil? I've no experience with this, just curious.

That rifle is so totally on my list now!!! Good choice on the caliber, I'll prob get the 300WM first too. enjoy!!!

Join the club, it promises to be a solid performer (so far). Thank you and I agree about the caliber, I will know more when I start shooting for groups, but of what is offered the .300WM has the best price/performance ratio IMO. :)
