Hello everyone,

I'm a 12 year Army Vet; been out since 2005. Took a four year break from firearms altogether, but recently have rekindled my interest and purchased a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 and Glock 17.

Some people might think I'm also something of a contradiction in terms in gun owner world, being a NRA member on the one hand, and Democratic voter on the other....:)

Hello

New to this forum and just started shooting again after 50 years. My mother gave away all the family guns when my father passed, except my J C Higgins Model 31 Rifle which was purchased in 1955/56 from Sears. The gun hadn't been fired in 50 years so I gave it a good cleaning and puchased some Walmart Bulk .22LR and have fired 200 rounds without any problems. Got a little bored using a rifle at a indoor pistol range so I just purchased a new Ruger Single Six 6 1/2 Blue 22lr/22wmr from Bass Pro, but haven't fired it yet....

As a kid, the one gun I had the most fun with was J C Higgin Model 88 Double Nine Revolver with a 6' barrel. I think we paid $38 for it in 1956. Boy I miss that gun and hope I will get the same enjoyment from the new Ruger SS.

Heya folks,

Long time shooter, former Marine that's working for the Army in the sandbox. I thought I was a member at one time but its been about a year and a half for me doing anything with a firearms forum, so I decided I should join one I can get to from work.

Currently I've got a Bushmaster A2-HB, a Norinco SKS "D" model (uses AK mags), a Ruger 10/22 "K" model (longer than normal stainless barrel and nice wood stock), a Plainfield M-1 Carbine (old police issue that needs to be broken in), and a Springfield XD .45 5 inch tactical.

New Member soon to be new husband

Hello all, I am a new member not only to the site but for the most part new to owning guns in most aspects.

I have a marlin .22 i purchased several years ago as a kid, just to help my grandfather with is "p-dog" problems.

I am going to be a new husband soon and looking for info on guns ranged for home security to repair as well as legal questions for other colorado members.

After looking through a few of the posts this seemed to be a very useful community.

Hi, new member here. I've had a lot of experience with guns growing up, that is thanks to my friends dad who taught me everything I know about them. Now that I have a family I've taken a great interest in them again both for hunting and home defense. I can't wait until my boys get older so I take them shooting for the first time.
I've really enjoyed reading this forum and it has been very helpful to me. Thank you.

NativeNawlins-Proud2Call New Orleans Home

Greetings All,

I have been OC'ing on in Jefferson Parish and while in my vehicle in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. I have had several close calls but no arrest made as yet. I attribute this to a couple of things.

1. Scene Safety – If I do not feel the area warrants me OC’ing, then I will leave my weapon of choice securely locked in my auto safe. (yes, I have a safe installed in my van). If on the other hand if it is early in the morning, late at night or other tell tale signs that trouble may be lurking then I proudly OC.

2. Attitude - Displaying confidence with a personable attitude works to de-escalate the situation.
a. I acknowledge any civilian’s look with one that says it is ok. Example; A polite hello or good evening.
b. If I am confronted by a store employee, etc. and they state I cannot shop with my OC, I politely acknowledge their request and leave. As I am leaving I respectfully state that they should place a sign up to prevent other individuals from legally entering their place of business with a legally carried weapon. I also state that with or without the sign that I will not longer shop in an area that caters to criminal activity over legal activity. Their loss, not mine.
c. If I am confronted by a LEO, I remain calm and confident and advise him that I am in full compliance with Louisiana Revised Statues and I am willing to comply with Louisiana Revised Statue 29:738.
d. If he wishes for me to comply with RS 29:738, I calmly ask him which actions he would prefer me to use in my compliance.
i. Properly clear the weapon by removing it from my holster, removing the magazine, opening and locking in an open position the chamber and then hand it to him in a non-threatening manner.
ii. Hand him my weapon while still in the holster which is easiest but lacks safety.
*I have had a LEO wanting me to hand it over at all, but have been advised to keep my hand away from it.

3. While we are talking I usually drop the name of an officer or two that I know he can check with to verify the veracity of my actions and statements.

4. Knowledge - The truth will set you free, if not at the time of confrontation, then at trial.
a. I have a list of the pertinent Louisiana Revised Statues that I printed on a business card and suggest that if he is not familiar with it he can have his dispatcher or supervisor verify them. I only have the number and short titles on the business card, example: LA CONST 1 11 "Right to Keep and Bear Arms". RS 29:738 “Temporary Weapons Confiscation”, RS 14:108 “Resisting Arrest”. CCRP 218 Art. 218 Method of arrest without warrant. CCRP 230 Art. 230 “Rights of person arrested”.
b. If I even feel that they are going to make an unlawful arrest, I advise them against it as my actions are within all pertinent laws, and that I will not resist the arrest and am fully aware of what constitutes resisting under RS 14:108 Resisting Arrest.
c. If arrested that I request full compliance with CCRP 230 Art. 230. Rights of person arrested that states he person arrested has, from the moment of his arrest, a right to procure and confer with counsel and to use a telephone or send a messenger for the purpose of communicating with his friends or with counsel.
d. If arrested I will no longer answer questions without my counsel being present.
e. Once exonerated that I will seek all legal means of compensation as restitution for knowingly violating my constitutional rights.

Notes:
CA Constitution Ancillaries (Louisiana)
CCRP Code of Criminal Procedure (Louisiana)
RS Revised Statutes (Louisiana)

Hello to all.

I just registered this PM. I found the site while searching on the web for any rifles made by my late uncle. Nice site.

Here’s my thumbnail description.

I am 54 (55 next week) and I am a 7th generation (out of 9) native Texan and a native Houstonian as well. I mostly collect S&W revolvers, Browning A-5Shotguns and Winchester model 70 rifles.

I used to shoot competitive .45 ACP, but that was a while back. I can still hit the broad-side of a barn, but only if it is a real big one.

Besides collecting and shooting weapons, I hunt (mostly waterfowl and deer - not by design, it just happened that way) and fish saltwater, primarily offshore.

I am a politically incorrect conservative with some liberal tendencies (NOT Left-wing; remember, the basic idea of America is liberal compared to the rest of the world).

I have a black lab girl named Spot.

St. Hubert is the patron saint of hunters. I’m not really him. He’s dead.

Thanks for letting me join up.

Items (3) 2ND Amendment, (6) Legislation harmful to our freedoms and (8) 16th & 17th Amendments.

So, here's what's happening next. My great friends of We Surround Them have organized a Memorial Day picnic event on Sunday, May 24th. It is scheduled to take place on the Lakefront at 11:00 am, most likely near the yacht club. There will be a special tribute to all veterans in attendance at 2:00 pm. There will be several booths set up for you to get information. Examples of some of the booths will be:
(1) Book Club booth -- identify books you can read to learn more about the Constitution, citizens' rights, etc.
(2) Healthcare -- how does the government propose to alter the delivery of healthcare and how it would affect you personally?
(3) 2nd Amendment -- how the right to bear arms is slowly being attacked
(4) Sign-Up booth -- to get more people involved
(5) Children's booth -- how to educate the kids about why this movement is so important to their future
(6) Legislation -- what state and federal pieces of legislation are harmful to our freedoms
(7) The true deficit and what it means for your family
(8) 16th and 17th amendments

Howdy

New member here, have really gotten into handguns the last 3-4 months and have been attending a CCW class and tonight is the last night for classroom work and TEST night. I'm ready, glad to get it over with and move on to the range work. I didn't know there is so much to learn about personal defense.

What is going on with ammo shortages? Are people really hoarding it anticipating huge taxes with the new administration? Or is something else going on?

This site looks great, and has a section devoted to 'my' gun.
