New here...Just wanted to say hi

I am new to this forum and just wanted to say hi :D

You interrupted my nap! Oops, that was for DC. Welcome, Adder! I know how tough it can be to connect from there. Look around, there are many interests displayed on this forum!

Question on Ithaca 37 16 g serial #441730

I cannot seem to locate this item in my books. Would like to know the age and about it's value, if any.Getting ready to auction the small collection of my husband whose has had a stroke and we have been advised to let all the guns go. I know nothing about the 54 guns. Have to learn fast.Hope someone out there can help. Thank you in advance.

Thats usually a tough thing to do through this medium, but if you go to the index, Shotgun discussions might have some folks familiar with the Ithaca, and Rifles if there are any of those, and so on. Best of luck, and I hope your husband recovers quickly.

Hey I just found this thread! Sorry I didn't introduce myself before posting.

Well I'd better introduce myself then, huh?

I'm a dog trainer/ wolf consultant living in Hartford, CT. I also do odd jobs as a bartender and also as an interview specialist. (I know, I know I'm wierd!)

I've been "into" guns for about 15 yrs now and I am a certifiable glock nut!

That's all I can think to say now! So...

As always,
APBT

HOWDY

I'm retired and loving it. I worked the waterfront and several airports since I was a kid. I do quite a bit of hunting/fishing and target practice. On a good day I can hit a hand thrown quarter or golf ball with a 22 rifle. I'm not bad with a handgun either. I've been blessed to live in this great country of ours & I constantly remind my son's and their friends to stick up for their rights. My first gun was a 12ga. bolt action shotgun that I paid the sum of $12.50 & that included a box and a half of low brass shells. My second gun was a single shot .22 bolt action remington. My first handgun was a used ruger super single six, but soon got an accurized 1911 in .45acp. I like my s & w revolvers and do not care for the newer ones. Their quality control, as well as some other gunmaker's has fallen off. I never cared for colt revolvers or their 1911's. Their revolvers were too fragile and their automatics were made for ball ammo. When I bought a new colt 1911 the first thing I did was to take it to my gunsmith and have it "fixed" where it would shoot every time with all kinds of ammo. Nowdays it seems like everyone is making 1911's and from what I've seen they work right out of the box. I've taught my 2 son's gun safety as soon as they were old enough to understand. I've also taught their friend's. I think NAFTA sucks as well as the UN. I like country and some rock and roll. I make my own bbq sauce and everyone love's it. I love Jesus Christ as he paid the ultimate price for my salvation. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and 2 son's. I have seen a lot of this great country of our's and especially loved the west. Sorry for you Texas folk's, but it took us the better part of 3 day's to transverse your state and I didn't care much for the scenery. Maybe we took the wrong route. I've been to The Grand Canyon, Mt. Hood, Unita Mountains, Strawberry Lake, Lake Mead, The Hoover Dam, Las Vegas in the summer and played in the snow in the mountains. This was back in 1969. I especially loved Oregon. The people I met were very nice and the senery was beautiful. I drive a 99 s-10 with no tailgate. Why? Because it's paid for and has a great a/c and it's good on gas. My favorite deer rifle is an old marlin .30-30 with winchester 150gr. h/p. My favorite hog rifle is the .351winchester. When I'm out in the wood's I always have my s & w 640 loaded with h/c wadcutter's. My favorite calibers are the .22, .22 mag., .38 special, 30-30, and the .351 winchester. I guess I've killed just about everything that walks, crawl's or flies (legal). I take head shot's whenever possible and prefer a single shot rifle in .22 or .22 mag. I don't shoot unless I'm 99% sure I can make a clean kill. I've killed more rattlesnakes than I care to talk about. I don't shoot every buck that I can. My freezer is full. I catch my own wild shiner's when I go bass fishing. I don't smoke weed or do other illegal drugs. I do, on occasion, have an ice cold beer. I don't have any guns that don't work 100%. All of my revolvers are s & w and slick as they can be. I never liked the ar's or the ak's. They don't feel right, but I guess they work. I don't care for ruger revolvers. I don't trust our government or it's civil servant's. For the truly honest, dedicated one's - you are not included. In fact I take my hat off to you. I took 2 years of typing in high school and we had manual typewriters and no a/c. I did all my typing on an old Olympia manual that was made in West Germany. I have a cell phone, but don't care for a blackberry or other high tec stuff. I prefer wood and steel in my guns. I have no use for a glock. In my opinion, they are, by far, the most dangerous firearms to my knowledge. I do my own bullet testing in various mediums. I don't care for remington's famous "golden .22 bullet". It's the worst .22 round that I've tried. Too many missfires and they can't get a decent crimp on the bullet. I have a love/hate relationship with walmart. I have 3 dog's. I was fortunate enough to have a wolf/newfoundland mix for 11years. Shoot straight and always tell the truth. Enough said.

Hi I have about 30 posts but never posted here.

I've been shooting since I was about 8. I'm 35, married, have a child on the way. I'm an Eagle Scout. I live in Boise, ID. My wife is a 9/11 conservative (a former liberal that moved towards conservativeness after 9/11) who has finally after several years of working on her realized that guns are not evil.

Here is my "arsenal"

arsenal.jpg

From top to bottom:
Marlin Model 60
Norinco SKS (all numbers match, original sling, etc)
Cheapo .380 that I purchased for my 21st birthday before I new anything about pistols. It fires, but that's about all I can say about that :uhoh:
Howa 1500 in 30-06

Missing is my 12 gauge 870 express, which is on loan to my father since he bird hunts and broke the stock on his auto-loader and hasn't gotten it replaced yet.

Future planned purchases not really in this order:

CZ-75 Compact (currently on layaway)
Mosin Nagant (so cheap everyone should have one)
Hi-Point Carbine (just because it's on HR1022 and it's cheap)
AR-15 (every red blooded American should have one)
Backup .380 (probably Kel-Tec) to replace the crappy cheap one in the picture.

After that who knows

I registered here recently and am also over on sigforum and far too many car forums. I'm a Senior @ University of Delaware, Poli Sci major and a Libertarian. That last part should tell you why I'm here.

Unfortunately I don't own a gun yet. My college campus doesn't allow firearms and my parents are anti's and hoplophobes. Weird since I have several cops & hunters in the family and both parents work hard putting DE criminals in jail. You'd think a criminal prosecutor would be pro-gun.

They were always the type who'd say they're not anti-gun but that they don't like guns for (insert usual irrational anti reasons here) I've been pro-gun for a few years now as a result of my libertarian views and an interest in law / constitutional law. My parents freaked out when I decided to buy a P22 of all things. You know, their house their rules and no rational argument was going to make them change the "No guns in this house!" idea. So gun ownership will have to wait for a bit.

Common situation. My Dad wasn't anti (farm kid, Army Reserve), but Mom didn't want any in the house (city girl), so I had to wait until I was working and got my own place. First thing I bought (after a bed) was a .357, one box of 125gr HP, a Lee Loader, and a mallet.

I am in the Private Security Industry. I work in a hospital, so there is much non-violent crisis intervention training, and other such policies. Normally we prefer Armed Security Officer as opposed to "flashlight cop, rent-a-pig, and the myriad of other <normally colorful> names we are called. I am 30 years old, 'Live in Houston, Texas. The only firearms I own are the ones I use on duty which are the Springfield 1911 G.I. .45 <modified>, a Ruger Gp100 .357 <stock>, an Ithaca 37 12ga, and a .22 cal rifle <for the kiddies>. I am highly interested in tactics and training i seem to be collecting certificates atm. The U.S. Army sent me a letter with hope I would re-enlist, but I am not too sure if i am all too willing at this point of my life. All that is still in the air. I have 3 sons, all of which compete with each other in rifle marksmanship with their .22on a monthly basis. 'Married <sorry ladies, i'm spoken for> The misses is seemingly as interested in firearms for self defense as I. There are several things I would like to train into her...like looking both ways before crossing the street :D, But seriously she does need to work on alertness, maybe she's just not as "paranoid" as I. Because They are out to get us...really :p

Hello from the Chicago burbs. I got interested in guns after the Katrina fiasco and finally took a private pistol course from a NRA instructor in January. I am now looking to purchase. I have been going to the range and renting various weapons and appreciate that this sport is easy on the "lack of time" issue. I have enjoyed reading all the posts before signing up.

Hi all, really enjoying the reading on this site. I am from Kansas (a recent inductee into the ranks of CCW) and have shot different firearms, though only owned a few throughout my life. (Other sporting interests have just taken precedence) I have however been out shooting several times over the last couple of months with family and friends just to realize how much I missed throwing lead down range. I am now in the process of buying my first pistol in the .45 size (Springfield xd) just cant decide on the 4 or 5 inch barrel length as of yet (a topic suited for a different forum). Anyway thanks to the guys/gals of THR for a great site, I must now get back to checking out some of the other forums (just another student of learnig)

Hey everyone my name is Drew, I've checked this site a few times and it sounds like a lot of good input, thought some of the experts could help me a little too. Live in Kansas, will be a journeyman lineman in 2 years working at an IOU, am 24 and like anything that goes bang. Mostly bolt-actions (remington 700 anyone?) and ruger revolvers.

Hi!

Hey everybody! Been lurking for a few weeks now. I wasn't quite sure where to jump in. This seems like a good spot. I'm mostly a reader and probably won't post much - there's just not enough time in one day for it. I didn't grow up around guns but have always liked them so I have owned a few since I have been married. My last gun was a (I'm so ashamed...) 9mm high point handgun. The "high point" of owning that gun was selling it about 1 1/2 mo. ago so I could put my first "nice" handgun on lay-away. In about a week & a half I will own a Beretta Cheetah .380. Not much oomph but i suspect it will go bang when tell it to rather than when it feels like it. Anyway, I gotta go to work in the morning (yeah, I'm one of those...) so I guess I'd better get some shut - eye while I can!

See ya 'round!

Welcome new members.

You've come to the right place for gun education.

Famous "last" words.

One will make enough time in one day for it.

Trust me on that one.

Hi! I am a gun nut for any guns, long, short makes no dif.
I work in a correctional facility and carry a weapon on a daily basis.
I own several weapons, but my fav is my trooper mk III. It's a 357 mag.
A lot of gun for a girl, but i love it. I am a hunter and a plinker.

HideeHo

Neophyte here...
I'm Dan, 43 yr old from NorthEast PA.
Thank you for being here, I'm only a little over a year old in the enthusiest arena. Hailing from NYC I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was to own a firearm, until I became infatuated. Then it wasn't inexpensive anymore.
My father was/is a sharpshooter from the SeaBees and has been fueling my flame for target and eventually the glorified Camp Perry trip.
Watching him and his Garand with iron sites make the 10 Ring @ 100yds over and over again definitely gave me pause and awe. I joined a local gun club and am an active member as well as an NRA member [glad to be] saving for life membership. So, here I is. My S&W 22A1 adopted many family members this last year. Being a contractor out here, everyone said "get your carry!" so I did.
Glad my youth was not as juvenile as I felt. I am becoming transfixed with the rifle, I love my pistols for anxiety relief, but my seriousness is definitely chasing the 10X grail. Got my Lyman TMag2 turret press and as much acutriments as my meager budget could afford. So I'LL BE IN THE RELOADERS SECTION A LOT!!! I shoot skeet, but the weather has been fairly brutal until last week. But I'm at the range almost 2-3 times a week-rain or shine. So the Rem 700 30-06 had to be moved aside for the Rem 700 .223. Costs for factory loads and loading components being a major contributor to the move. I'm a feakin poster boy for Remington.. can't wait to get some other brands [again budget allowing, you know how it is]...
I"ll try to be as legible as possible but the missus is still unawares of every and all items to be listed, so mostof my posts will be from 11pm-3am... Not my best time for hand eye coordination...
Anywho here's a look at the [showing off] items acquired, thank you my Lord!

Remington 700 30-06
Remington 700 .223
Remington 7600 30-06
Remington 870 Express 12Ga

Taurus Mil Pro 45ACP carry
Ruger GP100 38/357Mag
S&W 40 SigmaVE [looking to trade]
S&W 9mm SigmaVE
S&W 22A1

Thank you for the welcome [in advance]
Hope to be as much help as the help I can find...

Political Correctness

A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous leftstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I just transitioned over here from TFL. I was finding them a little more paranoid than I, and it rather creeped me out. I've been lurking here for a while and finally registered after I decided that this group seems to have more in common with me and my shooting interests.

I currently own a SA 1911 that has been slightly modified, shoots like a dream, and a pair of .22LR rifles. I'm in the process of building up an AK47, mostly just for the fun of building something. I don't know if I'll ever shoot it as seriously as I do my 1911. I am a RO at my campus shooting range and spend alot of time on the line practicing with my 1911. I'm still rather new to all this, but I'm finding that I enjoy practicing more practical shooting methods to "bulls-eye" shooting. Regardless, I try to help everyone who comes down to our range, new or experienced to shoot safer, better, and more enjoyably. I hope to both learn and contribute alot here. See you in the forums.

Greetings from the great white north

Just retired and have too much time on my hands. I collect evil assault rifles with bayonets and other fine high powered toys and restore them to working order....and take them all to the range...:D
should add ...my assault rifles are between a hundred and two hundred years old.:D
Antique motorcycles and aircraft are another interest.
been lurking for a while and figured I should throw in my $.002 from time to time:)
