Its become addictive ...

I'm a new member to THR. My wife came home from a night shift in the ER and woke me up to tell me she wanted a gun. That was in May of this year... we now own 8 guns and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. She has a Ruger LCR .38 Special and a SCCY 9MM. I own a Beretta PX4 Storm .40 Cal, Ruger 22/45 Lite, Remington 597 .22LR, Marlin .22LR Bolt Action, Benelli Nova 12 gauge, and a DPMS Oracle .223 AR15. We both enjoy shooting and do regularly.

Country is ...

Hello from SE Missouri. Retired and getting to spend some time doing the things I've always liked to do. Informal target shooter, mostly with my rifles but my nines are a lot of fun too. Hunt a little but mostly wander the woods and sit around watching the wildlife and other hunters.
Been carrying a rifle since I was 10 years old. I'm a former Marine, 1965-73, and a strong supporter of the second amendment. Raised my kids the same way and they're passing it on down to theirs.

Thank you for allowing me to join the discussion. I'm not a social media user, but this seems more like online training. I was a tech in the service on Titan II missile systems (that was a pretty big gun!!) and targeted Minuteman IIIC's. The only reason I bring this up, is because I was in the Dakotas during the Native American protests of the early 1970s. Because we were uniformed, we were easily identified as part of the federal intrusion on native soil, so that every once in a while, some hotheaded protestor would take a potshot in our direction. Therefore we were issued .38 service revolvers, trained and certified, in an effort to protect those of us who frequented the remote frontier of the Dakotas. We were however under very specific orders. Even when fired upon we were never to return fire unless our lives were in imminent danger. We were told to find shelter, sit and wait for security forces to arrive, and that they, as the authority in such matters, would handle the situation.
Thus, the rules and laws concerning concealed carry and engagement, make sense to me. Keep yourself and yours safe until authorities arrive to handle the situation. Don't kill indiscriminately, but fire back only if your life or those of your loved ones are in imminent peril.
However, that being said, my wife and I are new to the world of guns and concealed carry. We have only recently purchased handguns for both carry and home defense. Though our motives were serious and proactive, we have found that we enjoy the experience of the range and our guns. Shooting is almost meditative, even zen-like. I find I must remain fully self-conscious with every movement and breath. The awkward tensile stance, the long slow trigger pull, the smooth quiet exhale, the sharp focus on the front sight, the diminishment of the target in a fuzzy myopic haze, the patience and fearful respect for the weapon, all confound our natural inclinations and yet conform to a new self conscious reality.
Then there are the "gun people," who like all segments of a community, run the gamut from dull to exhilarating, slow to brilliant, quiet to chatty, anonymous to legendary. And we find that we like them and like being around them. There exist among all of them, a refreshing sobriety which I like, and can only be found among those whose worldview is indeed sobering.
As a former field engineer, I also know that the best training is in the morning chitchat sessions among colleagues and peers. This is where one learns of new issues to be addressed, the latest changes, the cutting edges of the technologies, the current concerns. Thus it is that I join your discussion THR, and again thank you for allowing me to do so.

New Member and PARA-USA 1911 Fan

AS I am New to this Forum, I'll introduce myself. My User Name TransAmTerryJ in my case, means I own a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. I decided to Join because in a Internet Search for a PARA-USA Baseball Cap, I read a disparaging Post about PARA 1911s. The Post stated that PARAs are Junk and "Don't Buy Them!" As I own a PARA-USA 1911 Expert, I believe I must Stick-Up for the Brand! My PARA shot w/o any Issues - 'Straight Out of the "Box"'. I have 150 Rounds to go, in the Break-In requirement. I have never had any Issues with it and don't anticipate that changing.
I am grateful for the Forum and those who read my 1st Post, as it is VERY Lengthy.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you all,
TransAmTerryJ

Been collecting for quite a few years, Retired stagehand. Worked live theater and rock concerts. Now just an OF!

I am a new member, glad to be here. I have several guns but one in particular I want to ask you all about. When a friend was down on his luck he sold me his old Winchester 1897 and another gun for $500. I didn't know the value of either but paid him $600 because I thought they might be worth more than $500 and he needed money. That was several years ago and i've kept them expecting him to buy them back but he never has. So this other gun is a double barrel side by side 16 gauge. It came in a custom leather soft case with separate compartments for the three pieces. It is fairly old, has nice scrollwork including a partridge, and the only makers mark on it that I can read is "Escopetas Colibri" on the barrel. There is one more line of engraving on the barrel but my eyes are not equal to deciphering. What exactly do I have ahold of?

"Escopetas Colibri" on the barrel ...

What exactly do I have ahold of?

I think Escopetas translates to "Shotguns" in Spanish
Perhaps the maker is Colibri
Calibre translates to caliber which is what I thought it might mean at first.

LATE EDIT: A thought, you might want to post this question in shotguns section of the forum.

Hello all I am a newby to this forum but an old retired Army soldier. 12 years Enlisted and 12 years Officer. Enjoy my Ruger collection and always looking for more items and more information. My collection is primarily limited to Mk I Mk II and Mk III with a few 9mm and a few long guns. I hope to gain lots of info from experienced owners and add my 2 cents worth. Thanks for reading this intro

Hello THR members- I'm brand new to THR and I look forward to learning from you all. I found you after exploring some other sites- some good, some less so. But I'm eager to participate and contribute where I can.

Hey all,
I am Der Pfälzer from Germany. Livingin the middle of Germany, I am a passionate rider, (horseback)-archer and hunter. Use different rifles, most of the time my drilling Sauer & Sohn 7x57R 16 gauge. My bad weather rifle is a Mauser model 98 in 7x57, a Mauser 98 in 8x68S comes out when it seems to be a BIG BIG game day (not very often, to be honest) and now I bought a brand new h&r handi rifle 30.06. Plan to mount a Vortex Crossfire 3-9x50 V-Brite on it and see what happens.
The handi rifle is one of the reasons I joined this community. There are some intresting posts about this rifle and due the face I plan to modify this little baby, I feel this is the right place to ask my questions.. ;-)
Second reason is, that I sometimes experienced that it is really difficult to get informations and orders overseas (from U.S. to Europe or vice versa). Even if UPS and FedEx have good shipping solutions to Europe U.S. manufactors often not deliver abroad which sometimes is a big problem when you need parts for your weapon and dont find an importeur in your country. So maybe it is good to know people who live there and can give advice about companys and policies..
Third reason.. registered to have fun!
Thanks for reading this pretty long introduction,
Michael

Hi, I'm Jim, new member from MA. Just got the black powder bug. Picked up a Colt Walker several weeks ago. I was afraid common sense would set in and I'd forever leave it on the shelf in the store. I also ordered an 1858 Remington replica. Can't wait to shoot it. The black powder revolvers I have handled are addicting to say the least, can't wait to get out shooting and learn how to master these firearms

Something's not quite ..

Edited to add: I tried to post a welcome last night, but my internet connection was funky -- kept cutting out. (I'm far from the wireless device; need an amplifier.)

Anyway, welcome to the new members. I enjoyed reading your intro posts. Interesting and informative. We like thoughtful members here. :)

Newbie

My name is Shane, I currently reside in Washington State. I've been in two different branches of the military, and currently serving in the Army as a weasel. I've got a couple of Rugers a Vaquero (both old an new) 45 colts, Kimber ultra carry, Walther PPK, S&W MP .40 cals, and a Rem 700 .308.
And have been lucky enough to shoot some of the Army's funnest weaponry.
Found this site researching my Ruger Vaquero 3 3/4 45 colt, so I thought I'd join.

Hello from new member Mike V.

Hi all

I have linked to this site many times when doing various gun related searches. Always got good information here. I decided I should join instead of just lurking.

I have always been interested in military firearms, Mosin Nagants, Nagant 1895 revolvers, Enfields, Etc.

Lately however I have been into a few 1911's and my new fetish for Springfield Armory. I have an XDS 9 for carry, an XD 9 Tactical that has been perfect for some training classes. and just scored a deal on a XD 9 service.

I am retired USAF, now work as a Govt. Civilian and I need to really retire so I can train more.

Another New Member.

Hello Everyone.
Just recently joined the forums. Located in the NEast Region of USA.
I am a handgun user, favoring 9mm. I cannot wait until HK brings out the VP9sk!
I will be the 1st in line!
Not into rifles or shotguns right now, but have a definite love for them as well. Would love to eventually purchase an appropriate rifle of some type. Do not know much about the current field of choises. I am starting up into the reloading world & am trying to get settled with it all. Didn't realize how specific & sensitive this hobby is. Lots to learn! Still searching for answers to things.

So, my wife & I love to shoot at the range. Her hobbies are sewing & quilting; while mine are woodworking & furniture making.

I am a member of the NRA.
I have included a pic of my reloading bench area. It is always a work in progress,
Making changes & improvements.

I enjoyed reading the other replies & am looking forward to sharing with you all.
