Howdy ya'll. New to the forum. Been shooting for 50+ years. Dad was a Marine that served in Korea, my brother went into the Navy and I went into the Air Force.
I was a 462 (Bomb Loader) in MMS and wound up hanging out at the armory since we weren't at war and I got tired of ping pong and darts.
Pretty soon the armorers had me stripping, cleaning and repairing M16's. I had qualified and carried one when I transported nukes during generation (Played full on pretend war) or Up & Down'd a bird on the pad.
So when I left the USAF I started collecting and working on that platform. It is a very nicely designed weapon and it will give you obvious clues when it's not functioning properly.

Started reloading about 20 years ago and completely enjoy doing that. I Have a Lee Turret press and a Dillon XL750 with all the bells and whistles plus some very necessary upgrades.

Located in the upstate of SC, grew up in So Cal.

Looking forward to learning From Ya'll.

Thank you fro your service, brother!

Hello, just joined today, served as instructor for basic training in the German Army in the 70's, moved almost 4 decades ago to the United States (legally), enjoyed shooting and re-loading (9 and 357), then had a long break-getting married-children, and now they are out of college- and I have a bit time for shooting again. Target, mostly pistols, sometimes can make it to the local range and squeeze a few through my H&K rifles. Love shooting 45, but since ammo is hard to find, I am going back to reloading.
Ruger,SIG,H&K,CZ,Browning,Remington,Mossberg etc.............
Still have my first Ruger Mark II from 1984 and it is a sweet and accurate gun..
Still learning new things almost every day, and this seems to be a great place for research and advise, thanks

Welcome to the community, str8_4ward. Many of us were active in shooting early in life, eased back to raise families and take care of business, and have been able in later years to spend a little more reloading and range time. You bring a great experience base and diversity so we will all benefit. Look around and find a comfortable spot or two to hang out. Cheers!

Hi. New member here. I'm in the Arkansas Ozarks. I've been a shooter since my tenth birthday. I'm 67 now, and retired. I shoot rifle, pistol, and load my own ammo. I've done a bit of bullet casting during the last few years, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert at it by any means. I used to be a hunter, but had to give that up because of some physical limitations. I just can't drag a deer anymore. I just shoot steel plates and polka dots. There's a really nice gun club about 15 miles from my house, so I'm fortunate to have a good place to shoot. It's limited to 100 yds. on the rifle range, but if I want to shoot farther there's a 200 yard public range about 45 miles away.
I enjoy shooting old c&r guns. Mostly K-31's and M39's. My most recent firearm purchase was a 629-6 S&W 6 1/2", and most of my firearm related activity of late has been working up different cast bullet loads for it.
Right now I'm set up to load .223, .25/06, 6.5x55, 30/30, 30/06, 7.62x54r, 7.5x55, .303 Brit, 8x57, 9mm, .38 spec, .44 spec, .44 mag, and 45 acp. I cast bullets for most of them.

So that's my story.
This seems like a really nice site with a lot of information.
Thanks

Welcome, Viking2! There are many of us in the same boat, with a lifetime of experience. This is a great way to share some of that and learn from others. We are glad to have you on board and look forward to tapping some of that wisdom. Young people these days can't imagine that there was a time when we would come home from work to find greasy rifle boxes deposited on the deck by UPS and Fedex. Enjoy!

Thanks, pretty sure there are quite a number of comfy spots here, looking forward finding them.

Good day from SE Michigan.

My dad was a Detroit LEO, so my interest in guns started early. He was always willing to share stories and teach me how to clean and handle the guns he had.
About 10 years ago, my wife and me became foster parents and pretty soon had a couple unwanted visitors around the house. It wasn't long after that experience that I bought my first handgun. Then she bought one which gave me some comfort since I worked afternoons at a local automotive parts company.
Since then, we adopted seven children (5 boys / 2 girls) and my oldest twin boys love to shoot. Not shooting so much now with the ammo shortage but hope to by summer....I own several handguns, shotguns, a 1942 M1 Garand, and hope to build my first 5.56 pistol soon with at least one of my sons.
I have read some of the posts here and have learned quite a bit so far. I very much appreciate the rules for I know that I may have some dumb questions in the near future.
I look forward to the learning opportunities found here and the comoroderie clearly displayed by the members.

Thanks for welcoming me.

You will be a busy guy for the next few years, but we're glad you are shooting for fun and able to share the tradition with your boys. It is a difficult time to be re-entering the sport, but this too shall pass and we are trying to use the time wisely. Thank you for checking in and we hope we can add to the enjoyment of the sport.

Welcome lorenzo1911. Thanks for your work to make us safer. It will be good to have the benefit of your experience. This is a respectful and friendly community with a lot of collective wisdom. I hope you enjoy it!

Welcome Romstar1. We are glad to have you back. Interesting times, to be sure, but not the first time events have taken a strange turn. We try to benefit from everyone's experience, and keep a positive and respectful outlook. I hope you find a few familiar names and pick up where you left off. Enjoy!

Hello all. Life long enthusiast and long time reloader. Just kinda getting back into things after the busy-ness raising the kids and going to work. Recently got off social media and am missing my online shooting buddies, going back to the good ol days of message boards. Btw, my handle has more to do with my last name than any ideology *cough cough*. Just thought I’d put that in there for our federal friends who may be lurking.

Anyhow. It’s a madhouse out there and I think we have a couple rough years ahead of us. Reminds of the Clinton/Reno days, but I fear this may be worse.

As far as shooting goes I did a little competitive shooting as a younger man. Some action pistol and some benchrest. I know my way around the reloading room and have just started dabbling in some gunsmithing.

Hope you all are well, and well, hang in there!

welcome to the club !

Hello everyone! I am a new member here. I love everything guns! I have many of many brands. I am a 65 year old disabled veteran(Marine). I hope to find and maybe help with questions along the way! Thank you for having me!!

Welcome aboard, Darb12. We can sure benefit from your experience, and I hope you might find some useful info here too. You may want to check out the THR primer in the general gun section, and make yourself at home.

Hi, new member from south east GA and im new to reloading. I inherited a pretty decent collection of guns when my dad passed in 2013 and lately ive been setting up his old Dillon 550. He must have about a dozen dies of different cartridges and ive also bought a 9mm luger and a 223rem set to go with it. So now I have the reloader, the dies, the powder and the brass but I cant find any small pistol or rifle primers any where. From what ive seen no one can find primers so im no different than anyone else I guess. Anyway im sure ill be asking some questions of yall in the near future. Have a food day, Mike

Welcome Mike! Unfortunately, I've had too many "food" days and my silhouette bears witness to that. :D Congrats on your inheritance. Although it would have been preferable to be reloading with your dad, we do have to carry on and there are many here who will be happy to share wisdom and experience. Primers are a pinch point because they are not only scarce but a bit of a PITA to ship. This too shall pass, however, and we are looking for a return toward normal in the days ahead. Meanwhile, thank you for checking in. We are delighted to have you on board.

New member here (sorry, already posted a few already). I'm in Georgia and have been into guns for 15+ years, was really into reloading for my 308's and into trying to consistently shoot under 1MOA. Got out of it when I had 2 kids 2 years apart. They are 4 and 6 now, so I have a little more time now to get back into it. I don't have my 250 yard range I made at my hunting lease anymore, but there is a decent WMA range within an hour drive that I shoot at. I had plenty of ammo for all of my guns, until I just purchased a 6.5 Carcano and my first AR-15 (already had a LR-308 for 15 years) and I am really struggling to find ammo for those. I did just get 60 rounds for each for $1.25 a round, but at least it is very high quality. I ain't paying fifty cent or whatever for some steel cased crap (I never have and hope never will shoot that garbage in any of my guns).

Welcome, BigAlShooter. We are happy you are getting more time and opportunity to shoot. We all are hoping that the supply catches up with demand in the near future, and that we can all share what works for us (such as your 308 loads ;^). Check out THR primer in the general discussion section, and tune in what interests you.

Rczxx, I like getting away from the devices, but you are welcome to virtually take us along. We are all benefitting from the experiences of other members.

Hi!

Long time lurker, brand new member. Thanks to all on this forum that have over the years provided insight and information that I often found via searches. I have no reason why it took me so long to sign-up!

Currently living in Florida panhandle, though expect to be moving this spring/summer. My interests are broad and it would be easier to say that I am not actively interested in Cowboy action, long range shooting (+300 yds), or F-class than to list all things that interest me. I dabble in lots of other stuff but am most active in shooting for hunting accuracy, teaching firearms safety as part of Hunter Education, and starting my elementary age sons on the Markman's path. Lots of Ruger 10/22 and Savage B22 shooting :)

Would like to get into 3-gun, action pistol, rifle competitions of some sort, and back into Bullseye/Precision Pistol. Because I move every few years, its very difficult to get involved and stay involved with a local club.

Collection includes some mil-surp, sporterized mil-surp, traditional sporting rifles and shotguns, a few pistols and revolvers. Really enjoy using my SilencerCo suppressor on the the .22's! Do some reloading on my RCBC RC II, or at least I did some reloading back when components were available :(

Thanks again for the information over the years!

Dave
