Howdy! Name is Paul. I lived most of my life in the Midwest, (mainly IA and MO) but recently moved out to California, (yeah, yeah I know. What was I thinking? That's a long discussion for another time) I've been a gun nut from about the age of 10. If it goes bang when you pull the trigger I like it, (exception being a snub-nose .357. That combination is just stupid!) Since my move to the socialistic republic of California I have renewed my interest in black powder firearms, since I do not have to sell my soul, document the transaction in triplicate, and wait 6 months in order to own one. That last bit was a little sarcastic. It's not that bad out here.....yet. I like to fish, hunt, 4wheel, and boat among other things. I am also an unapologetic defender of our constitutional protected right to keep and bare arms, un-infringed.

Hi, longtime lurker who finally decided to join the fun. I currently own three firearms. The first is a Ruger 10/22 with a houge over molded stock, williamson ace in the hole peep sight, aftermarket bolt buffer pin and Ruger brand extended magazine release. The second is a a Savage B-22 FV-SR Overwatch painted in the "we the people" matte with a 3x9 viridian scope. My third gun is a Maverick 88 12 gauge 5 shot with the 18.5 inch security barrel and the 28 inch vented rib barrel.
I finally moved out of the big city and decided to take up sport shooting and hunting. Lots of previous firearm experience but being in a big city owning a gun was not an option. Currently doing nothing but plinking and target shooting with my .22's. The shotgun is the newest purchase and once I've gotten to know her I'll be shooting trap/skeet and deer/rabit hunting later this season.

Swampy75, delighted to have you on board. Funny how life can take some twists and turns, but you seem to have enough resilience to survive the experience. Your black powder passion should help to pass the days, and there are many other reasons people live in CA, including jobs, family and friends. Bloom where you are planted, know when it's time to move along and make the most of it until then. Thanks for the intro and happy charcoal burning!

twofewscrews, welcome to gun nuts unanimous! We are glad you are enjoying the shooting sports and I can understand you spending time with rimfires because they are endless fun. They also point out poor form and reward me when I do something right. I have plenty to learn and I learn a lot on these pages. We hope you will benefit from our experiences and we from yours. Just be kind and patient with us and we'll try to make it all worthwhile.

Hello from behind enemy lines in Ma. I joined in 2011, but i guess im still new seeing how ive never really posted anything till just now......Been handling firearms since about "74", bought, sold, bought more, reloaded, bought some more, reloaded some more. You get the picture. Now its time to get shootin again.

Welcome, BTSDOG, to our merry band! The more the merrier. There is a lot to talk about, and not all the news is bad. We can enjoy each other's experience vicariously and exchange useful information more often than not. We also stock the usual opinions and factoids, so caveat emptor! All we ask is for kindness toward your fellow human and a gentle sense of humor. We hope you enjoy the ride!

GOF, we're glad you could join us. We're not very politically correct or I guess the term is "woke" now, but I suspect that not everyone in OR is either. It's just good to be among kindred spirits, and we all share an interest in shooting sports. Please make yourself at home and we look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Hey,
Thanks for this forum.

I am from AZ but have been gone for 30 years.
Been in The Corps.
I’m came home. "Found my beautiful high school sweetheart and married her". After 40 years we found each other
Mom lives in Phx. Brother in ShowLow..

I’m a moderator on a NC Gun forum and a member of others.
I’m a combat veteran. Too many damn times over.
I’m not prejudiced. I own GLOCKs and 1911s. Built ARs in all calibers and hunted with them though I don’t hunt much anymore. Have British Enfield 1918, WWII era M-1 Garand and others. Well you get the picture.
My last two are Dan Wesson ECO and New Model Colt Python. Both quality guns. Hi-Points are ugly. But I tell you what. They go boom every time. Gunny likes Boom grin.gif
Their customer service is good too. I wouldn’t admit owning one.
I have a sense of humor. tongue.gif facepalm.gif

I have studied Federal Gun Law and I am familiar with the firearms laws in every state.
I know NC like the back of my hand. I need a refresher on AZ firearms laws. Always learning.
We all know that there is a flood of BS about what is legal and what’s not.
Ignorance abounds.
I am not a know it all. If I was, I’d know nothing.

I’m a staunch defender of the 2nd amendment.
I’m looking forward to interacting with fellow shooters.
So,
That was a windbag full for my piehole so I’ll stop there. whistle.gif

Semper Fidelis!
Very Respectfully,
Gunny G USMC

Welcome to our little corner of the internet, Gunny G! We have another gunny or two here who seem right at home, and we hope you will too. There is a good experience base here, and we're glad to add yours. All we ask is basic respect for fellow humans. If you ease into things and get the lay of the land, it doesn't take long to figure things out. Thanks for the intro and I hope you enjoy your time with us.

I'm new here, just registered. I've owned a few handguns for years. I'm a 1/2 way decent shot with my Ruger .45, but most of the credit really goes to my Crimson Trace that I installed years ago when laser sights were kind of a "new thing". My point is, I should really get to the range more! But the main reason I joined this forum is to learn more about some recently acquired rifles. Kinda funny HOW they came to me.....had a baby grand for sale or trade and these were part of the trade! Now I've come here to try to learn enough to make an informed decision as to what to keep, if any. Guess that will be a topic for another thread! Meanwhile, thanks for the add!

Welcome, RicharSyr. It seems that gun values have been running high, but we know that goes in cycles. Some guns are easily replaced, others less so. You may want to check on the marketplace to get some sense of value, but what really matters is which ones you enjoy most, and which are less interesting. Guaranteed they are easier to store and to move than that baby grand. Enjoy.

Thanks for the warm welcome! (Should I call you "Rusty"? :) ) PS: Love the quote from Baden-Powell, btw.
Yes, they're definitely easier to move around than a piano, and the gentleman I did the deal with "had too many guns" in his opinion (I didn't think that was possible!), so he was happy with the trade too.
There were three in all (plus some other non-firearm related stuff) and I've already decided that one just isn't for me. The one that I'm gonna let go is a very nice 1973 Winchester Model 70 .308, has the original sites which I understand make it more "collectable", but the rifle is really too heavy for my liking. I understand they're fine hunting rifles but I'm not a hunter, and as I said, it's a heavy SOB, so I don't think I'd put it to use even at the range. Where on this site do I go for advice on how to "sell/trade/otherwise give it a new home" if I'm decided it's not for me? Not sure what my best options are, or how to begin. Any advice appreciated!

Most folks probably look to online sale sites such as gunbroker.com to see what things are selling for. Dealers are pretty savvy on gun values, and if you have a good one nearby they might be willing to help set a value and/or do a consignment arrangement.

Maybe an inquiry in the Rifle Country section of THR will get you more specific advise. Good luck!

Rifle Country, as per @rust collector recommends.
Take some photos to include in your post. (A neutral, gray, beige, etc. backdrop--a towel, blanket, etc.--will help the photos).
Some really smart people here to nail down the value. If it has a scope, get a close-up of the info on it.

Hello all,

Been lurking for a brief time to get a feel for this site and learn before posting. I'm a long time pistol shooter (currently .45ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, and
22LR) and reloader, a short time AK and shotgun owner who enjoys target & iron chicken shooting. Thanks to a very good friend I've just been introduced to the AR world (5.56 & .300 B.O.) and see lots of opportunities to spend more money than I should. I'm looking forward to reloading rifle cartridges and testing the outcome.

My other interests are alpine skiing and motorcycles. Can you sense a trend here? Expensive hobbies......:)

For what it's worth I find this to be a very friendly and knowledgeable place to hang out, share, and learn!

Pleased to meet you, beemerboy! Sounds like you know how fun is done. We look forward to finding more out about each other as we weave in and out of different areas of interest on the site. We like to stay on the topic of the original post and exercise civil discourse skills, which have become somewhat rare these days. If you haven't hit the THR primer you may want to take a run through that just to see if that works for you. If it does, we are delighted to add you to the merry band.

Welcome, allproguns. We are happy to have you on board. I will recommend that the promotion and linking to your business hold off for awhile so it doesn't seem like spam, but once folks get to know you, may be good to go. I am not a moderator, so it's just a suggestion. Always good to hear from others of shared interest, and I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome to the fray.

Perhaps the best place, for now, for your website is in your Signature line area (this should be found in the Your Profile Page tab under your user Name). That makes the information available, but not "in your face" if you will allow the expression. Your Profile is also where you can post an Avatar photo, too. Not a horrible idea to include at least your State in the address in case you ask a question where location matters.

Appreciate the info.

Hi all, I'm a new member from up North.
My latest purchase working thru the Canadian approval process is a couple of 44cal Pietta's, my first set of black powder revolvers.
bIWfyQbl.jpg
No worries about rushing off the range when they are approved, no percussion caps to be found any where.

Welcome aboard, Czy_Horse! Nice looking percussion pistol. I hope you will be able to shoot soon. Meanwhile, pull up a chair and reminisce with us about the good old days. There should be some good information in the black powder section. It's good to have folks with other experience and perspectives, as we sometimes fall into ruts in our way of thinking and expressing opinions. You will find the usual thoughtless comments, but also a fraternity of fellow shooters who like to help each other and have a wealth of experience. Thanks for the intro. Enjoy!
