Great forum, pleased I discovered it! My belated introduction - apologies for diving into a few threads without an introduction :eek: . I am Arnie Miller, 46 years old, living in Johannesburg South Africa. I have owned handguns since the age of 21 and got into rifles and hunting some years later. I have owned and loaded for
9mmP, .303, 7x57, 30-06 and also own a .22 BRNO rifle - a favourite for plinking.

After numerous hunts for antelope ranging from Impala, Kudu, Blesbuck, Widebeest and the odd Warthog (best eating!) I fell victim to the unfortunate crime wave in our magnificent country. My home was robbed at gunpoint and all my beloved rifles stolen..:cuss: ...I sulked for 5 years and have now acquired a beautiful, used FN Supreme in .308. It has taken me 2,5 years and an expensive lawyer to navigate the minefield of SA's Central firearm registry before the license was granted. I will collect same on Monday from the dealer who sold it to me. Come May 2007, hunting is on again with my son of 13, who will hunt for the first time. I look forward to learning much from this forum and sharing experiences. I hope to meet up with some of you if you get to SA

Hello,

My name is Jack; I am 30 years old. A bit of history about me: my parents were in international business, so I moved from country to country all the time. It made for a very interesting schooling experience. I've lived in (chronological order) Sao Paulo Brazil (born there, but only stayed for a month b/c I was born 8 weeks prematurely during a business trip), Seoul Korea, Taipei Taiwan, Lyon France, Fes Morocco, Dallas TX, Los Angeles CA (undergraduate schooling), New Delhi India, Boston MA (graduate schooling), Durham NC, and now South Pasadena CA.

I have no military or law enforcement experience. However, my travels have always brought me closer to those who serve, and I'm always interested in their thoughts on policy matters.

My post-grad degrees are in Religion and Public Policy, so that makes me the worst dinner party host/guest ever. But there are no better topics than religion and politics over a meal and a stiff drink.

Most importantly, I prefer stouts over ales over all other yellow beers. My new favorite is Mackeson, which I discovered at Trader Joes (almost as good as Guinness). I like vodka and pinot noirs, but rarely over a good stout.

I own a Remington 870 and a Marlin 795. I'm building a CA legal .223 AR15.

I've enjoyed backreading the old posts at this forum, and look forward to learning more about firearms.
 
Hi Folks

Back in the early 80's, I worked in a gun shop and owned several nice handguns. I had to sell the guns during some very lean years (sure with I had that S&W M66 back), but am now looking to get another gun or few and start shooting again.

I've been lurking for a while, and really get a lot out of these discussions.
 
I just realized that I have never posted to this thread! I'm Rnchick. Yes, I'm an RN. I work with the itty bitty super-sick babies in the NICU (neonatal ICU).

I have been a gun owner for almost 1 year now. I was never "anti" per se, just not interested. I had no problem if other people had firearms around me, I jsut didn't want to be forced to participate.

Then something happened on Oct 14, 2006. I was the victim of a home invasion & was hurt pretty badly. Its kinda funny that it took something like that to make me want to protect myself.

Anyways, I enjoy shooting recreationally. I find its a great stress relief. I have met some good friends here on THR & look forward to all the interesting conversations.
 
New guy from Delaware

Hi! I am a 55 year old male from Delaware. Along with riding my Harley Davidson and playing one of my guitars I enjoy shooting. I recently purchased a Ruger New Model Blackhawk with a 4 5/8 in barrel. It is my first centerfire hangun. I had a 22 SA revolver years ago and recently decided I wanted to get back into shooting. I don't hunt anymore and mainly use my guns, which include a couple 22 rifles, for non competive target shooting. The main reason I got away from shooting in the first place is that I am originaly from a rural area in Virginia where I could shoot anytime right in my own back yard. 31 years ago I moved to Delaware and live in town. Being new and not knowing anywhere to shoot my guns just set in my closet only taken out to be oiled and on rare occassion do a little shooting. If anyone reading this is from southern Delaware and know of any public lands where I can shoot I would appreciate it if you could let me know about it. I guess that's it for now. Merry Christmas!

I'm new (2 days I think) and I'm nost interested in mil-surp stuff-predominantly ex-com-bloc. My first gun is a Rossi .38 snubby-bought for the arduous trip from San Francisco (Love the city, HATE THE GUN LAWS) Which held me for some ten years. Then I met a customer who is a certtified GUN NUT (Allah be praised) that got me thinking about a Yugo SKS. I'm a tightwad, but once I decide I wanr something I want it RIGHTNOW! SO I went to a military gun show without knowing any thing about guns-I was familiar with the SKS history and operation, and ended up paying way to much for a beater (The Beast) with a bore as black as my heart. Oh well, a life lesson for $159 could be viewed as cheap. Shortly thereafter I got a maverick 88 (Cheap but perfectly serviceable copy of a Mossberg 500) pump 12 gauge. My first time at the traps I shot 85%. I started to do some squirel, rabbit, dove and goose hunting for a couple of years (No Animals were harmed during this simulation of hunting). I hit just about every public hunting land in a 90 mile radius of Milwaukee, and let me tell you, hasn't been anything bigger than a field mouse in any of them. The closest area has some chances for doves-too fast and some geese-too high.

My next purchase was a Mosin Nagant 91/30 dated 1933 with an octagon barell and except for some varnish ware on the stock it looks brand new. Finally got my cheapo BS scope half way dialed in and shoots about 1.5 MOA at 100 yards if I do my part. Next was a m68 Bulgarian training bolt .22 carbine. Its stock is rough looking, but the metal and bore are used but quite clean. It shoots about 1-1.5 MOA at 50 yards, cost me $65. If you find one in decent shape, grab it up if the aint to dear-they whent fast when people found out the value for price. The West Allis (a Mke Suburb)Boy Scouts are armed with them-they left me the rattiest in the rack-but it's my 2nd favorite rifle.
Then I decided to get some pistols-a lot more range time available- So I got a crotchety guy in Fon du Lac to order me a Brno CZ52-a peculiar but durable and accurate Czech police/army pistol from well, 1952. The local gun shop cranked its transfer fee too $100-on a $159 pistol:fire: and Tom charged $50. It was a birthday /out of the 3 month hospital stay for a broken spine.(Which co-incided with my last Squirel Hunt and Illegal Plinking foray with Gamera, the Varmint Buster-she brought me a deer rib and a freshly squishified field mouse after beating the brush in front of me). I figured it was a present I so desperately needed and richly deserved

So I had to break in the C&R, right? SO I ordered another CZ52 and a "BRAND NEW" yugo SKS that was coated in cosmoline and on which I did a polyurethane job on the stock (GaspGasp go the hand rubbed oil :fire: :mad: guys.)

I did a Makarov.com (http://makarov.com/cart/52parts.htm) and it shoots quite nicely. But that's it. Really. I've been looking at the Schidt-Rubin rifles a little too much lately...............By the way, my Plinking area in East Troy has fallen vcstim to subdivisionitis, and allthough the public hunting land signs are still up, they're outnumbered 10-1 by brand new No tresspasing, hunting, shooting,fishing, trapping etc. signs. The times they are a changin'
OUt of the goodness of mey heart I got my wife a Jimenez 380 for illegal concealed carry but she did'nt care for the ergonomics-bloody hammer bite-or the 18#trigger. And after running 150 or so rounds through it, I don't think it's the weapon I would want my wife to trust her life on this $85 wonder Tom, a dealer I trusted told me it was a good, dependable piece. Maybe for his family, but not mine.

Greetings all,I've been around firearms most of my life and I'm 46.I'm into Western SASStype,mil-surp, Savage rifles,and have CCW permit,.I also hunt when work permits time.Like to talk to all but like to meet fellow shooters in Southeast Va or Northeastern N.C. and get some range time in.If anyone has a C&R and deals with Century International,I'd like to order a British Endfield No4 (T) sniper,but they don't have a very good website unless you have a FFL or C&R I'm:banghead: looking for a price.Great site and looks to be very active! Current weapons CTEME love it Mossberg 500, SKS, Marlin camp 9 carbine and 38 special stub. I have been shooting since I was 8 or 9 years old and have owned a lot of different guns. I am currently retired was a manufacturing engineer for 45 years, I just had a real fight one with cancer I seem to be doing great now but the treatments kind of screwed up my vision so i have to use a scope now. I like THR very much a lot of nice people here.
Born and raised in Michigan except for my time in the Marines I have lived all of my life here. Married 5 kids 9 grandkids one grandson in the Marines now. I shoot every time I have a chance usually with my son. Don't hunt much now I do not have the energy to hunt any more and that hurts. Miss it a lot. Just wanted to say Hi to everyone.

I've been lurking here for a few months and have picked up a lot of good info in general.

I work in the mineral exploration field and enjoy riding my '03 Triumph Speedmaster when not breaking rocks.

I'm new to gun ownership and being a dual Canadian/American citizen am seeing a lot of different laws come into play.

I have recently gotten a Utah CCW as I'm a California resident who travels around the country for my work and would probably have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than acquiring a CA CCW.

The carry gun I chose was a Kahr P9 which after handling a few others like the Sig 239, Walther PPK/S, Sig 232 and a Beretta Cheetah, just fit perfectly in my hand.

After firing my cousin's Sig P226 I knew I wanted one of those and as it's one of the few Sigs available in Canada I picked up a P226 9mm, which I am looking forward to picking up in the new year.

Since It will be a PITA to move these guns back and forth accross the border I'm going to have to start building my collection in both countries...unfortunately Canada doesn't have nearly the selection of permissable guns as the US.

My next one is going to be a Sig 228 9mm and I'd like to add a S&W .357 revolver in there sometime soon.

Who made up this CA law of one gun per 30 days????? :banghead:

Hello from Montana :) I am US Navy vet and a proud parent of 3 daughters. I will need a good shotgun in the not so distant future :p I am also an avid hunter and reloader, although I am essentially breaking back into that hobby again. I have decided that I want to build my next rifle from the ground up with possibly a little qualified help with the barrel. I would be interested in any experiences that members have had their guns as well as loads. Glad I found this place as it has been a big help with finding online companies and other hunting sites. I look forward to learning a lot and having fun with building my dream rifle.

newbie to the sight. i enjoy shooting of all types but mostly shotgunning for fun. i am just getting into some handguns and rifles for target mostly. i enjoy teaching my son (12) about the sport as well.

Hello, I should have done this before as I have posted to a thread already, I am active duty military, consider Alaska my home (all of it). I live in Seattle Wa right now because I am stationed here. It is a nice place and really very firearms friendly for a liberal hot bed. I grew up in the PRNJ and the only guns I had ever seen were in the hands of police and crooks. I really had no idea that a person could own one legally, I strongely suspected that the 357 Colt Python my father owned was not legal, I only saw it a few times. Wish I knew what happened to it! I am often tempted to ask my dear old mom what became of it. For all I know she has it neatly tucked under pillow. I hope so. In boyhood I got to shoot 22 rifles at boyscout camp. Wow was that cool. I in my ignorance I thought gun control was a good idea until I left PRNJ and found out there was a free country out there on the otherside of the state line. I bought my first gun in Alaska at age 19 (Ruger Blackhawk 41 mag) still have it too. I have CCW permit here in WA. I had one in Alaska but now I don't need one there! I confess I have always carried permited or otherwise. With one exception, never at work. But I was usually under arms anyway. My favorite carry gun is my Browning High Power. I first learned about it in David Morell's book First Blood (get it / read it). I have alot of other interest and you can feel free to ask me if you like. I am a middle aged guy now, white, married, Christian (but no longer a emember of the Episcopal Church USA), NRA Life Member, Freemason, Shriner, Elk, wannanbe marathoner (half so far) and I am surprising liberal minded in most instances. Try me. Oh yeah I am a talk radio fan (Rush saved AM radio). This has got to be annoying by now.

I am new here...but am looking forward to learning all about guns...

I own 2 SKS rifles. I was raised to love guns, but have been unable to shoot for almost 15 years. I recently obtained my guns liscence and am finally free to purchase and shoot my guns.

May we not need these guns to fight off the tyranny of oppression...but I often wonder how long before I need to defend my family from the hoards. Canada sits on a powder keg of deluded multiculturalism...believing that each culture is entirly neutral...I suppose this is so while there is electricity and water...but once these are lost...God help us.

I am an avid defender of the right to take out whatever gremlin decides to invade my house at 3 am...I am happy that there is such a strong voice fighting for the rights of citizens to bear arms!

Hello all...new to the board. Found it while researching the K31 Schmidt and Rubin and ammo availability. I just ordered one after looking over a friends.

Gosh when it comes to firearms Ive been "into" quite a few things. A little bit of competitive (ipsc like) pistol competition. Ive owned a benchrest gun, competed in and won a few local tournaments with it (my proudest non-hunting achievment). I reload, or I should say, I have reloaded, everything is in storage now after a nasty divorce and all the crap that comes after. Because of that, I liquidated most of my collection...but its settled down now, and Im rebuilding.

I killed a buck a few years back that got me into a record book or two with my a pistol shooting my reloads. I guess that is my proudest achievment.

I enjoy reading about, looking at, reading about looking at anything to do with guns, hunting, archery, camping, survival etc...

I have two boy ages 8 and 10. The oldest one has been bitten by the "bug" badly, which makes me excited and proud.

Thanks for this board, looks pretty diverse subject wise, lots of good reading and very knowledgable folks.
