New here on THR; been a member at other shootist forums under the same name for awhile. Just turned 45 last month and celebrated by acquiring a old SIG 220 and a gently-used Springfield TRP operator, both in .45, of course.

Guess in another five years I'll have to spring for a .50 Beowulf...:evil:
 
Intro

Hi, my name is Jason. I've read bits of pieces of this forum through Google searches and finally decided to join. I enjoy any kind of target shooting, and would like to get out hunting more. I served 12+ years active duty U.S. Army before transitioning to the Reserves in order to go back to college. I'm a Combat Engineer (Sapper-qualified) and I'm majoring in Geographic Information Systems (mapping). That ought to explain the name.
 
Greetings. I live in West Texas and enjoy shooting firearms of all types. I own many hand guns and long guns (new, used and mil-surp) My Favorite hand guns are Glock followed by a variety of 1911 colt clones. Lately I have been purchasing lots of rimfire guns because .22's are affordable to shoot. To date I have the following pistols: Ruger Single Six; EAA Bounty Hunter (Peacemaker Clone); Walther P22; Browning Buckmark Camper; and the NAA Mini Revolver. I am a U.S. Army vet. who served in Korea as a military police dog handler during 1972-73. These days I have been doing a lot of point shooting using both my left (strong side) and right hand while on the move. I guess I am mostly a tactical shooter interested in personal defense. I have my CCL. I will be 56 in July and have a non-shooter wife; a 13 yr. old boy shooter and a 15 yr. old non-shooter daughter. I have keep a German Shepherd every since the service.

My name is Marshall, and I am the founder of the http://www.kdsc.us Kansas Defensive Shooters Club.

I organize, design, and construct the COF's we shoot on a monthly basis. Currently we are a small group hoping to promote safe gun ownership in Kansas, by having COF's that emphasize the utilization of your personal firearm(s) in situations that are anything BUT bench shooting oriented; moving and shooting, shooting from concealment/cover, malfunction scenarios, tactical and fast reloading, target recognition, speed steel reactive shooting, and much more.
I started the group in hopes of gathering like minded individuals in Kansas, and also attracting more people.
Hopefully there are Kansans in this forum that would like to participate in our shoots, I will keep an eye out here, and hope that you all keep an eye out for our upcoming shoots!

Greeting from the Pacific Northwest. I just wanted to take a few moments to introduce myself...

I spent (or should I say invested) 4 years in the Marine Corps and I've been reading posts on TheHighroad.org for quite some time now, but finally decided to join this afternoon after spending way too much time looking at 10/22 posts. Like many others I've began to revisit, and shoot the hell out of, the .22 LR during the past year (Ammo Prices...).

I've been working on upgrading one of my 10/22's to kind of resemble Springfield's Socom, and the other I'm hoping to upgrade to a Hogue/Tactical Solutions Barreled/scoped/bi-podded contraption. As for my other .22's I still have my Remington pump circa second grade; actually its a lot older than I am and may have served in the Navy (has an anchor stamp on the barrel) plus I've also added a Sig Mosquito and a GSG-5 to my collection over the last couple months.

As for the center fire shooting I enjoy...

Kimber 1911 (.45) - traded a model 96 and a Taurus .357 for that one and couldn't be happier. HK USP Compact (.40). Bushmaster AR (O.R.C., should have bought one with iron sights and then added optics). Remington 700p (.308).

I also really enjoy shooting clay pigeons with my favorite shotgun of all time...my $80 NEF Walmart 12 ga.

So I hope that kind of gives everyone an idea of what I'm into, and I am really looking forward to participating in future threads, and learning from the enthusiasts in this outstanding forum.

And as a result, I belong to a few, although I lurk more than write.

I'm from the upper part of the lower peninsula of Michigan and am an avid reloader and shooter. Mostly lever guns. I dabble in minor gunsmithing, and have pulled off a couple small success projects. The last one converting my .444 Marlin into a guide model by doing a wood and trigger plate swap with another shooter and doing a barrel shortening job. Project came out fine.

I'm in my 60's, and for everyday shooting, and practice, I use almost all open (aperature) sights on my lever guns. I have a fair amount scoped bolt guns, but get bored with the regularity of shooting through scopes. I'm not obsessed with 1" MOA shooting, just hitting a 4" target at 100 yards or an 8" at 200 is good enough for me. The hunting I do in the Michigan woods doesn't require anything more than that.

I have handguns. A couple SA Rugers, a couple .22's and a 3" SP-101 I've become very fond of lately. With full .357 mag loads I can hit paper dinner plates with it regularly at 50 yards. I keep practicing with it, as I would like to reduce those 50 yard groups to less than 6". I call it "Sparky" as it's pretty lively but very controllable even with those loads.

I shoot enough that I don't know anymore whether I shoot so I can reload more, or reload so I can shoot more. I also cast 90% of the bullets I shoot.

Hey all,

I've visited here many many times through links from other forums so I thought, there must be a lot more I'm missing out on here!!!

So I decided to join the ranks.

I've been target shooting/plinking since I was probably 9 or so beginning with air-rifles then graduating up to .22lr in my teens then on to more fun stuff in ROTC like M16s, Colt .45 1911s, M60s and LAW rockets... you know, the typical toys ;)

I had to change universities and as such never contracted with the Army and had to leave ROTC behind... I don't think there is a day that hasn't gone by since that I haven't thought about my training or wished that maybe I should have carried on with the armed services but life goes on - sometimes in odd directions.

After university I picked up my own 1911 and a few long guns. Mostly hand-me-downs from relatives etc. Then I took a break for many years after an injury kept me from shooting. I got back on the horse a few years ago and now shoot a XD-45, XD-9mm, M1A ScoutSquad and a Marlin .22lr for plinking. I still shoot air-rifles too (recently purchased the Benjamin Sheridan I always wanted as a kid but my parents couldn't afford) :eek:

I've never gotten to hunt much except with friends and their families as my parents weren't into it. But it always seemed important to my dad that I was a good target shooter so that's my poison now. I'm mostly a range-rat. I'd love to work on some longer range shooting (over 200m) but in the short term I'm planning on getting my CCW this Summer.

Well what to say.
Retired police officer. 25 years in the squad car and other assorted police duties.
Firearm's instructor for the department. don't shoot as much as I used to, but still carry a lot, though it is nice to not HAVE to carry now if I don't want to.
Used to be a salty ole pistol shot with the revolver.
Still got my duty weapon a Smith 66-4 with mustang grip.
haven't reloaded in 20 years but thinking about setting back up my press.
Like my old SMLEs more than any other rifle I have shot, but I thin this new Remington 597 just might replace it. ALso like shooting this sweet little sears 3c 22 bolt. its an oldie. Not gonna mention all my toys though..........:cool:

I'm a new member from California. I grew up around firearms and responsible firearm owners, and was just given my first gun as an adult. (Sears Model 25 .22 rifle) It's great for plinking and learning how to clean and care for a gun. (as the action gets really dirty after about 100 rounds at the range)
I'm looking forward to purchasing my first revolver, and am grateful to have found this site. I've already read the Sticky Revolver Checkout, and Have read Jeff's (Moderator) new rules for posting, in "tactics and strategies". I couldn't agree more. I'm extremely happy that I found a forum with responsible and respectful members. Everyone has been very helpful and I just want to say thanks for making a place like this.
 
Hi You'all

New to the boards. I love my guns, almost as I do my fiance (who shoots too...HOW COOL IS THAT?). I hunt, target shoot, dig plinking. I have my CCW and carry atleast 2 handguns with me. I have a wide/large collection of handguns, couple shotguns (hunting), and a number of rifles for hunting and plinking.

On a side note I also love to drift. I have recently put off purchasing some new pistols I've been wanting to up grade my turbo and add a nitrious system to my intercooler.

So there you have it...oh yeah, I live in BFE Alabama...I can walk across the road infort of house and shoot and hunt. SHIBBY! Look forward to meeting some new friends and hopefully learning and sharing some knowledge on firearms and related topics.

Howdy folks,

New here, Been over at TexasCHL forever and lots of folks there routinely reference stuff here. Figured it was time to go straight to the horses mouth :) You guys come highly recommended.

I'm a big fan of Taurus. Daily carry is a 24/7 Pro 45 acp with SS finish. Wife also carries the same model in 9mm. Both of us use Federal Hydrashock (switched from glazer for penetration concerns). Been meaning to dig more into the issue of Carbon (not sure on the spelling) rounds I've been hearing a lot about lately.

Currently working on a build out project for a Tactical 12 gauge. Info is here and would love to have input on it.

My name is Randy, I'm a 51 year old Pension Administrator, Air Force veteran, shooter of clays, revolver, and rifle. Haven't hunted in a few years now but won't necessarily say I'm done. Fairly new to the Chicagoland area, not the most firearm friendly area in the world but I am encouraged to be finding like minded people and THR has helped. Attending the Aurora Sportsman's Club Open House 6/28 and that will undoubtedly accelerate that process.

I suppose I'm still relatively new here, so hi!! I'm a shooter of all things, both stationary and moving; lively and inanimate. A farmer by tradition, hopefully an apprentice gunsmith soon by interest.
 
Figured I would stop in and say Hi. I have been lurking for awhile now and finally decided to join. I just bought my First gun, it's an AR-15 my neighbor put together from parts and I got a killer deal.

Probably no one reads the last post on any forum but here goes. Rather a new member. I wasn't aware there were gun forums out there. Found this one by accident. I'm rather on the old side so not real great with a computer so when I find something it is usually by accident. Prior to a severe bout of Cancer I used to go shooting about once a month with handguns at in door ranges. Just getting well enough to get back to doing that and naturally most gun ranges are vanishing. I'm in Illinois and guns are becoming something most people don't want to even say the word. Used to be two indoor ranges within a few miles of me but now gone. I prefer shooting handguns mostly due to having to travel vast distances to just shoot a rifle.

We have built a training facility in Lower Alabama. It covers 160 acres. We are having a devil of a time getting the word out. Media only wants paid advertising. Banks can't lend money to businesses with GUNS! But we are making steady progress. This hunting season shoud put us on the map with the area hunters.

We teach concealed carry, self-defense, M14, and train and certify MSC Sailors.

I am looking into purchasing my first handgun, so I've decided to join this site to get several opinions on various subjects. I am a student and travel quite a bit. I am always hiking and camping as well. I am really looking forward to learning as much as possible on here. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to voice them. I would like to have a 9mm sub compact as my first handgun. I would like to purchase a .40 cal later on. Thanks everyone!

Here's my 2cents on the handgun issue: Many will try to stear you to their favorite gun for whatever reason they feel it is the best. Most of the time it very well may be the best choice - for them !

The first issue from my perspective is to decide which handgun plateform you like best. Revolver or Auto . Seems you may have already decided on an auto.

The rest is realy trying to find that particular model that fits you. You hand size, your ergonomics, your taste, and your purpose. Generaly this has to be done in person. Most often going to the gun shop and fondling different guns is very much a part of the process. If you can shoot a particular model prior to purchase then that is even better. Don't expect to shoot a new gun before you buy it however. Some stores have rental guns and the one your looking at might be available as a rental.

From here my advise goes to a site called "thecornerdcat" . I hope I spelled that correctly. It is run by one of THR female members and gives a lot of good advise on the purchase of your first gun, and does it perhaps with a perspective that I can't. Good Luck - and again - Welcome ! (Keith)

I'm live in North Alabama, about 35 miles south of Huntsville on the most beautiful lake in the South. Best fishing lake, too. I've lived here for 51 of my 52 years.

I restore and conserve antique furniture. As a hobby I have done some custom refinishing on firearm furniture. I also design and build custom furniture. One of these days I'm going to fulfill my threat to build my own stocks.

I enjoy shooting target clays, rifle and handgun target shooting and collecting. I used to do a lot of wing shooting but then came to realize that it had been a while since a bird had made a hostile move on me, so I unilaterally decided to declare a cease fire. Despite anything you may have heard, a chicken that you buy tastes better than a duck that you shoot. It's cheaper, too. And you don't usually chip a tooth on #4 shot while eating chicken.

My collection, arranged from biggest boom to smallest bang, is from Mossberg 500 Tactical to Walther P22, with (too) many stops in between.

Hi, my name is Tony. I have been a member of THR for several months now, so I guess it’s time I introduced myself. I acquired my first gun, a Herter’s Mk U-9 30-06 by mail order back in 1966 0r 67. Actually, I assembled the gun from parts I bought from Herter’s. My first handgun was a Ruger Super Single Six 22LR/22 mag. I still have both along with a few others I have acquired along the way. I started reloading in 1971 using a Lyman 310 tong tool. I started out loading 30-06, 38 special, and 357 Magnum, and still load those along with many others. I have, however, graduated to an RCBS Rockchucker press. My most carried gun now is a Kimber Ultra-carry II, 45 ACP in a Galco IWB holster, and my most used hunting rifle is a Remington 700 Light Varmint .223. I also shoot and hunt with black powder rifles, and I prefer flintlocks.

I served in the US Air Force as a pilot for 13 years, and I have been a high school math teacher for the past 22 years. In the AF, I qualified expert with both the 38 revolver, and the M-16 rifle. I live in Del Rio, TX.

That U-9 rifle brings back a lot of memories. I live less than 100 miles from the old Herters main operation which was in Waseca, MN at the time you bought your gun. Getting older and trying to remember which one was the U-9 action and thinking that is the BSA gun. The other was a FN Mauser action. (unless I have it in reverse) .

About the same time you bought yours via mail order I was to their close out section ,and when I walked in there was a 50 gal paper barrel in which where a good amount of barreled actions for sale were placed. The Mauser actions were $25 ea. and the BSA actions were $35 as I recall. I bought the Mauser barreled action in 7mm Remington Magnum, and a seconds cherry wood stock that was 90% inleted for another $10. Made a nice shooting rifle for the $35 total price !
