Greetings. I'm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and am new to the site. I own and enjoy firearms for hunting and trap-shooting. "If it flies, it dies." With the exception of clay targets, I don't shoot what I won't eat. So far, the menu has included geese, ducks, pheasants, rabbits and wild turkeys. I support P.E.T.A. - "People Eating Tasty Animals." My Labrador, Major, fully supports my gun ownership. As an attorney, and former prosecutor, I've found that the vast majority of people who keep guns "for protection" don't know the first thing about locking them, cleaning them, marksmanship or gun safety. "Responsibility" is the name of the game, aina?

On a more specific note: I'm interested in a Smith & Wesson Model DA .45 caliber revolver. I'm not sure I can handle it - can anyone tell me how much the thing weighs [unloaded]?

As the name implies - a Misplaced Cowboy from New Mexico in Vermont... long story with an unhappy ending. Still raising horses, dogs, and cain. I have WAAAAY too many opinions - luckily the ones I voice have a little experience to back them up.

Hey gang, I joined the site yesterday, and have been looking through all the different forums. I'm looking forward to learning lots and maybe even helping people out a little. (Though I will admit that what I need to learn heavily outweighs what little knowledge I have to share).

As far as I firearms, I have a few that cover everything from old military to wheelguns to more modern stuff.

Hey... new member today! I'm a bit of a desert rat... tend to visit Arizona quite a lot on my time off, feels a little anarchic down there... less regulations, open carry etc. Ex-Brit military and a vet. U.S. Merchant Marine.
I own several fire arms. My favorite right now is my 1971 Colt Peacemaker .22Mag... 6" barrel...accurate and sweet... loud though !!! CCW in WA. State. I'm lookin' for input on NAA Black Widow in .22mag, thinkin' about pickin' one up as backup carry gun. Any desert rats out there (or out there desert rats)?

OK, I'm an independent, politically liberal gun owner. If gun owner's fail to overcome the usual liberal bias against guns, the 2nd will fall further than it has. Be reminded, Charlton Heston was a liberal, belonged to the ACLU, marched with Kennedy and King - there's a bunch of us out here.

The neo-conservative tar-baby BS has got to be removed from a Constitutional affirmation of rights.

If we as gun owners fail to separate other political issues from gun ownership and self-defense, we will continue to be manipulated by partisan politics. To be manipulated is an imposition upon and disrespect for our freedom.

I think it's more important to cultivate Freedom which the republic should serve rather than sacrifice freedom, for whatever reason, to a Republic which merely alleges to support it.

I dare say, that great liberal Thomas Jefferson would likely be on the government's terrorist lists of today with these, his words:

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."

And this one bears thought in our current economic situation -

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. s&w model 1955 28-2 .45 cal?

I own a stainless .45 cal s&w. On the right side of the barrel is stamped 45 cal. model 1955. Left side stamped Smith & Wesson. The frame is stamped N263216 below that MOD. 28-6. The cylinder is stamped F11 83792. It was willed to me. It has .45 auto rim rounds in it and they are very old. No one knows anything about this gun. What the hell is it?

rdeschain....Welcome! Glad you moved to a more "shooter friendly" state! Having moved 10 years ago from shooter friendly Virginia to CT which is not shooter friendly, I'm sure you will enjoy your renewed interest in guns and shooting. Hope you will be an active participant here and on other gun boards.
 
Greetings to all. I enjoy hunting, target shooting, and amateur gunsmithing here in NL, Canada. I use both long guns and handguns and have recently been looking into IPSC and wondering if it's for me.

Hello to all. U.S.Army 85 - 92 I am in on the most unfriendly gun states (California) but still enjoy hunting and target shooting. I own several long guns but only one handgun, a S&W 617 6" SS, what a joy to shoot. I am currently in the market for a .45 and have been looking at several different 1911 configurations.
 
Hi! I'm new to firearms but have a passion to learn whatever I can. As I live in the frozen tundra called North Dakota and there are no indoor ranges in the area, I have to wait until spring to actually hold a gun and learn how to shoot it. However, until that time, I am seeking to research safe weapon handling and search for my first handgun.
I have also gotten things a little backwards and am the Vice President of the University of North Dakota branch of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. I am a strong supporter of our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms and the responsibility we as citizens have to protect that right.
I am excited to learn all I can from this forum and be able to better educate myself and my responsibilities. :)

hey everyone,

been lurking on these forums for a little while now, and I really like how this board is set up and run - a lot of my appreciation comes from the "family friendly" mentality here. I really feel that this structure gets the best from everyone, in the most respectful way - or at least as respectful as the internet can be! :D

anyways, I'm currently the owner of two firearms - a CZ 75 BD in 9mm, and an LMT Defender 2k in 5.56 NATO. probably more firearms will be joining my family sooner than later. here's a pic of my AR - she's a beauty!

Hi. I'm a semi- new gun owner. I've been around them since childhood and started getting my own when I started shooting High Powered comp. w/ an AR-15. Now I've started to get some handguns for self-defense and fun.

Unfortunately I wanted to increase my assault rifle's but lack the funds and hoping the new president will take his time with the gun laws. But it looks like I wont get the chance to get more semi-auto rifles.
 
Hi. I'm a complete newb to guns...period. I have a new family on the way and would like to be able to protect them and my property. Unfortunately everyone I know is a gun hater. So in surfing the web looking for information I found THR. And from what I have read the past few days it seems this place has a great group of contributers, so I decided to join.

Forgive me when the stupid questions start coming, because they will...and I'm sure there will be plenty. It's a very intimidating environment to step into when you've been drilled your whole life that "guns are bad!!!"

Hi Bill. Welcome!

Guns are NOT bad. But people can be. Blaming a gun because someone is dead is like blaming forks because someone is fat. But I'm sure you know that.

Owning and shooting a gun is an important responsibility. So don't worry about questions, no matter how stupid you may think they are. Learn everything you can about the responsibility you are taking on.

Take a safety course. Go to a range. Strike up a conversation with someone who looks friendly. Tell him you're new and ask if he can teach you a thing or two, maybe shoot his rifle. Learn, learn, learn.

When you buy your first gun, make it a long gun. Pistols are tougher to master. Make your first gun something without too much recoil. Practice every chance you get.

Hello everyone!

My name is Sig and I found this site yesterday while searching for a tuckable holster.I am VERY glad I did! There is so much info here I don't think I'll need to search much anymore.I love to shoot and own guns,and i do every chance i get.any gun is fun to shoot but i like the tactical type funstuff.i have a sig 226,a 239,a few old revolvers,some shotguns,nouthin fancy,and my funnest is my supressed AR with ACOG, Dr. red dot,and all the fun stuff. If it were only full auto,then i could REALLY break the bank!:) nice to be here. and a really nice website!
 
Thanks for the welcome gents. From all my reading I've pretty well determined that a shotgun is by and far my best bet. I live in a townhome (penetration concern), work long hours (limited train time), and I work nights which means my wife will be home alone most of the time so she needs to be able to handle the weapon safely as well (she's 5' 2" with small hands). THR has been a great help in my lurking already, having steered me toward that conclusion.

Now the daunting task of choosing a weapon I'm sure will be a much more drawn out decision. And since I live in the Peoples Republic of New Jermeny I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to decide before they get around to issuing me a NJ FID.

Hi all, I´m from Germany. I joined this Forum because i got tired of the rare German gun related Forums. I´m into guns since i was 11 years old when my dad took me to the local airgun range. Today my main concern lies on modern military related firearms. My first .22lr pistol found the way to me when i was 18 years old. Today i own several guns from Springfields M1A to Remington 870. I run my own shooting association to get more people into guns. My last purchase was a NIB HK USP in 9x19. I envy all Americans for their right to carry a gun to protect themsevles and their families.

Nice to see someone here from the "old country". While we are very lucky here with the firearms rights we have, it is a never ending battle not to lose them. And despite the battle it still often seems as if we are losing them one small bit at a time.

Again welcome! Hope you will become a "regular".
