Hi all.

Permit me to introduce myself. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I served in the US Army Signal Corps in Pleiku, Vietnam in 1968-69. My weapon was an M14 and I hope to have one of my own someday. Having become interested in firearms only about three years ago I have always supported the Second Amendment even in my liberal youth.:uhoh:
Beginning with WWI vintage Lugers and a Mauser C96 my interest has shifted to more affordable post WWII Walther pistols.:D
For defense I have chosen the M1911-A1 as well as Walther P99 and a P5 for the wife.;)

In between I have been active as an amateur astronomer, traveler in East and Southeast Asia, and kind of a computer nerd (I don’t qualify as a geek).:banghead:

I am married for over twenty-five years and we have raised two sons.

Proud to be here with all of you,

Russell

Good to be with you all. I am a father of three in fly-over country. I own a Glock 31 (.357 Sig) and am looking to purchase a pair of CC 9mm pistols in the near future - one for me and one for the wife.

Sig ammo is becoming hard to find and is abhorrently expensive. And, while 9mm is becoming more difficult to aquire (Thank you, Mr. B.O.), it is infinitely cheaper to shoot than .357 Sig.

Hi all,

I’m a member of NRA, GOA, Oklahoma Rifle Association and a local shooting range. I’m interested and concerned about preserving our right to keep and bear arms. I enjoy reading and learning what I see here about equipment and techniques. I appreciate learning about legal and political issues in THR. I’m also lucky the wife likes shooting.

Hi my name is Harree and I reside in Manila, Philippines. I have an avid interest in guns, knives, martial arts and everything concerning personal self defense. My interest in guns was mostly influenced by my brief stay in Los Angeles California from 1986-1988 as an immigrant. A cousin brought me to a gunshop which I think was B&B where I was educated on the finer points of the 2nd ammendment and guns by a nice man behind the counter.
We had to go back to Manila for personal reasons but that love of guns stuck with me. I became a legal concealed carry permit holder here when I reached 21 and have never been without a firearm ever since, either on body or nearby.
I am an avid revolver man and have always preferred to carry them as a primary handgun. Presently I am on a love affair with an L-frame 681...
I chanced upon this forum by accident and would love to join in, gain additional knowledge from other forum member's posts. Hope you welcome me in guys. Thanks.

Getting to know you...

Hey folks! My name is Augustino and I'm new to THR. I live in Tennessee where the CCW laws are fair.
I like pistols as well as rifles & shotguns. I'm looking for a Winchester 1300 Defender but haven't had much luck locating one. Pawn shops never seem to have them and Winchester stopped making them.
I don't believe the SHTF scenarios will ever materialize but enjoy talking about this topic. Kind of like a fantasy escape. I enjoy discussions about survival skills since I've been lost in the woods at the Big South Fork Tennessee. I enjoy hiking back-country so knowing how to survive is paramount to enjoying myself.
Otherwise I'm an everyday "Joe" who in some instances is quite liberal and on other counts quite conservative. I've voted Democratic and Republican but basically hate both parties and all politicians equally. A fairly boring man who want's to live and let live but don't mess with my family and loved ones. I think it's everyone's responsibility to help & defend those unable to take up for themselves. That's about it...

Considering first purchase

I'm 31 and have moved into the suburbs from a more rural area. News stories about home invasions, etc. have a certain immediacy to them now. So I am thinking about buying a firearm.

Greetings from the 50th State!

Just joined up after weeks of lurking. I hail from Hawaii - where Obama was grown and nurtured into the gun-hating president we all know and love. I am a recent Life Member of the NRA. I shot IPSC in the early 80's, but eventually drifted off and shot off and on over the next 25-years. Owned only one S&W 686 4" .357 mag during all that time (yeah, how can I call myself a gun lover, huh?).

So now, I'm pushing forty, my girls are getting a little bigger and don't take so much TLC. I'm determined to pick up shooting again, with the eventual goal of getting back into some local USPSA matches.

To this end, my dear dad has handed over his prized Ed Brown customized 1911 compensated pin gun. This was THE thing over twenty years ago, but these days, I'd have to declare this in Open division for USPSA. Needless to say, I'll get smoked by all the race guns that dominate. My dad can't stand anything happening to his baby, so one condition of getting this beauty, is that I can't modify it. Oh, well. Still, the thing is a work of art, so I'll probably end up shooting it anyway.

On a more up-to-date note, I am waiting to pick up a Springfield Armory XD-45 Service model. It's the bi-tone stainless/OD green model. Love how it looks. I don't love the fact that I learned these don't feed lead SWC! I got some LRNFP bullets that I'll try reloading. Maybe I can shoot Production division with this one.

Sorry for the long post. Hope being here will be just as fun as lurking!:)

hello to all

hi everybody,
new to the site and sort of new to the world of guns. i got my pistol permit in mid-january, bought my first pistol by the end of january(walther pps 9mm). then i bought a remington 870 home defense(check it out in the shotgun picture thread). i have a used but-doesn't-look-it marlin 336cs waiting in the wings so to speak. it has a bushnell scope and sling mounts and feels smooth. does 350 sound to high to anybody? it looks real clean and tight. anyway, nice to meet you all.
