Hello all

Happy to find this place. Thanks to the mods and members for an interesting and informative forum. I'm a humble and respectful guest, and clean up after myself.

I'm about to be a new handgun owner. Well, "about" as in waiting indefinitely for a Springer XD 9mm (black, night sights, 5"). So I'm hoping it won't be too much longer, though my dealer says there is zero visibility from the distributor or manufacturer at this point (I'm thinking Croatia must have some job openings). My purchase wasn't part of the Bambi-panic, which I fully understand - just a case of bad timing.

I'm in southern California - the spot where my oldest brother taught me to shoot when I was 11 back in the last 60s (Ruger Single Six .22 - he still has it) is now, of course, a completely developed area. Before an overseas assignment as a civilian in a very very bad place that's dusty and hot I took some quasi-tactical handgun instruction back at Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, VA. I liked the Glocks we used, but after some test-firing at my local range here, which has a nice selection of rentals, I settled on the XD.

Current daydreaming focuses on putting lots of rounds through the new gun when I get it, maybe doing some tactical-style training with it, then perhaps getting a light/laser, then a 1911 ......

Interest is mostly hobby and self-defense, but competitive shooting might be an option down the line.

My screen name is just homage to the beautiful guns on the Iowa-class battleships, which I have seen up close (before the ships' final retirements) many times but have never seen/heard fired. Perhaps the ultimate expression of the art and science of the rifled gun. In any case, the main batteries along with the teak decks, brass fittings, and foot-thick armor just give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Hey everyone.

Active duty Military, close to 13 years. Just like guns. Don't carry as part of my job, just a part of how I grew up.

I am a CCW holder. Not so much a second amendment guy, just a guy that believes guns do what they are told. I'm big on self-defense and home-defense. I don't really like handguns that aren't .45. My favorite gun is probably my SIG 556.

I have shot guns since I was a small child, and I'm doing the best I can to teach my three children to respect firearms and use them properly. Just peeking in here to look at some various aspects of things. I randomly found the forum while looking for information about ballistics for .223. Nice place so far.

I found your site looking for reloading info and couldn't get over all the people like me. Thanks, and hope to be around for a while.

Hello from Missourian

Hi every one, I live in Missouri, work Corporate Security for 18+ years, Received my CCW a few months back. I'm new to CC so I am still getting use to carrying.

Good morning and greetings from North Carolina! :)

My wife and I live just outside Charlotte and have been shooting rifles and handguns for many years.

We've had our CCH permits for about 8 mos. now and are proud members of the NRA.

This is an excellent forum and I hope to learn much and hopefully share some knowledge too.

I'm back on THR after being away for a few years, I got more heavily involved in trapshooting, and still have my Browning XT. I sold off my handgun collection when I was going through my "D", I had a P228 Sig, a CZ75B-40 S&W, a SW1911 Target, and a S&W Model 27 revolver, and miss these dearly. I now have a Sig P225 and a Springfield Loaded 9mm, and plan on adding several more!

Newb to THR

First site i've joined. I am a products specialist at one of the major american sporting outfits. Love my job. Lucky to have it. Assault weapon knowledge, Rifle knowledge, Shotgun knowledge, Handgun knowledge, accessory knowedge, ammo knowledge, optics knowledge, etc. I also handle state to state restrictions. Have to tell folks the why about lobbyist and unrealistic state laws and published ordinances. Even delve in to Canadian restrictions( what can and cannot go accross the border). Honestly, there is quite a bit of knowledge floating around up in the old coconut!!! Want to help out as much as i can folks. -40 to 110... I dump rounds in any weather:fire:. I want to contribute as much as a i can. Knowledge is power, and i fear a lot of shooters out there are lacking. Rightly so, as there are not a great deal of fact based weapon sites out there. Also a lot of unreliable info floating around. I am not a registered gunsmith, but have a vast knowledge in general weaponry and accessories...comes with the territory of the job. Sink or swim mother!! Seriously looking forward to shooting the @*&$ with you guys!!! Love shooting through and through. If i aint fishing i'm shooting. Minnesota/Wisconsin area.

The first thing i want to contribute is this. Ask, ask, ask, ask questions about products you are not familiar with. There are a lot of products out there made specifically to catch the consumers eye and pocketbook. Not to be practical. If it looks like something out of a science fiction movie...it, in most cases, is where it belongs. I do not pretend to be the smartest guy out there, but i god knowing i love this stuff!!! I take a lot of pride in getting our boys in the service the proper accessories for application. Any soldier out there who needs help with anything will always have a listening ear with me. absolutely undevided attention. Basic inf to specialsists. Whats new out there, and what to stay away from. It's hard to stay up on this stuff, but i breath weaponry. I cannot stress my love for shooting enough guys!! This is the only site i will be on. Looking forward to this!! I love helping folks who aren't afraid to say " i do not know".

Wisconsin in the house!!!

Hi to all,
I've been a reader for years. Finally, I hope to be a contibuter. I love to shoot and hunt and am hoping to meet fellow souls in my area, especially those with land (I'm tired of punching paper).

Looking forward to being a valuable component to this great community.

Hello everyone. I'm a new member. I have a couple of S&W J frames revolvers, Rugar 22/45 pistol, shotgun, 22 rifle. I hunt a little, mostly I like to shoot my handguns. I'm interested mostly in home/self defense, and my conceal carry permit is pending.

I work as a Capt of a river towboat pushing barges on the Miss River system.

I live out in the country with about 30acr. I'm going to set up a target range. I'm interested in some thoughts on a back stop.

Hey all!! Also new to the site...

Umm...so my wonderful, fun husband is on here as well...Hi Baby!!!!

I've only been out hunting a few times, but recently a friend gave me a long bow to practice with until I get the feel of shooting, can aim well, etc..I HAVE shot a gun more than a few times, since I took a gun course back in High School. It was fun, despite the fact that I couldn't see well (no glasses) and the hot, spent shells kept landing on my arms, legs, etc...

I also fish like a fiend, better than the hubby most days...LOL (dare ya to mess with him about that one!), and everything I learned about fish I learned from my Grandpa who's passed away. Last summer I snagged a 15" smallmouth...wish I still had the pic of that one, it was awesome!

Back to guns, etc...I've never shot at or killed anything, but one year I assisted in skinning/processing a deer my bro-in-law shot...felt only a slight pang of guilt, but it passed...it was fun and boy, was it YUMMY! LOL

Not a member of the NRA or anything, but my core beliefs are the same.

Anyway, that's pretty much it about me. Great site, great topics, great people! LOL

Reader who just registered. Want to get my hands on AK (probably) or AR (less likely-$$).

I want a 'zombie gun' that can also hunt if need be. Was looking at 5.45 AK since ammo can be had for cheap-for now and is more accurate than 7.62 past 100m or so.

Worried about current situation, dollar collapse, etc. Just got laid off (auto industry) so can't spend too much.

I would really like to talk to a gunsmith with AK experience in eastern NC.

Hey!

New guy just saying hey. I do a lot of deer and elk hunting. I'm also big into waterfowl and bow hunting. I'm looking forward to talking with you guys and seeing what I can learn, I might even be able to bring something to the table myself sometime.

Later Bryan

Hey there ! I am a new member. I drive truck and enjoy learning about guns .I shoot a little.THR seem to be a good source of information and fun place to be .

Newbie enjoying the site!

I live in Texas and have been collecting guns since allowed to. Love old guns, new guns and all those inbetween. CHL holder for 4 years, NRA member for 11 years now and an avid hunter since I can remember. Introducing my daughter to hunting and my love for shooting since she is now old enough, already have some great memories. Hoping to find some advise on reloading and gunsmithing from the many knowledgable folks on here, seems like a great place to spend my down time. Also would love some info on competion shooting, any D/FW locals with any info on the matter please don't be shy. I do travel alot to so any differances in CHL laws would be greatly appreciated as well.... Thanks
