Hello! I was told about this forum by a friend. This place is a great resource!

I am new to shooting...again. I used to shoot with my dad in IL when I was young. We mostly shot BB and pellet guns. I own 5 BB/pellet rifles/pistols to this day.

I now live in West Texas and recently came into possession of a S & W Model 13-1 .357. I can't wait to put some .38 and .357 rounds through it.

Happy to be here and I look forward to learning more from everyone on the board.

Hi All, What a great site! I joined a local gun club about a year ago and just started shooting again. A couple friends gave me some reloading equipment that they no longer needed so I've been enjoying working up some target rounds as well. Like many here, seems like every time I did a search for online information about shooting or reloading I was directed to this site. Thanks for all the helpful info!

Paul

Hello

Hey THR Forumers!

I been lurking on this site for years now it seems as when ever I have a question I google it and it ends up leading me here. Many good answers I have found on here though I still have new questions it seems almost daily. Don't ever stop learning.

Finally I have join, but was given a little incentive to actually join from Armslist. For those who you that don't know of Armslist is a great website to Buy, Sale, and Trade firearms. I will be honest I get points for spreading the word and am trying to win a prize this month. BUT it is in fact a very good website so it seems like a win win to me. I will have the link posted in my siggy for future reference, but it would help me out a ton if you could just click the link below and check it out. Thank you!

[link removed]

Hope to see you all around on THR as I will be on and off as I have questions or need help making decisions.

glad to have finally join as I believe this site may become a favorite firearm forum of mine, other two I follow is opencarry and ktog. I am sure everyone has heard of those as well.

Hi. My name is Greg. I'm a middle-aged dad of four boys. Started shooting as a child. (Went to the farm on weekends where my Dad and uncle would turn me loose with strict instructions and a single shot 22 rifle. They must have taught me well as there was never a close call.) Stopped shooting after dad gave me my 12 gauge and I saw how it destroyed a rabbit. Bought a 10/22 and an H&R 686 revolver in my early 20's. Shot for a while and stopped until a few years ago. Bought a S&W model 60 for home defense, added Ruger SR9, a Walther P22, and DW models 22, 740 and 715. Hoping to try my hand at hunting with a revolver but we'll see if time and life allow it.

Hello all, I am Stanley and live in the Tampa Bay area in Florida.

IDPA, USPSA, & Multi-Gun are my main interest at the current time. Aside from trying to keep my job in this economy.

Newby here. First time on this site, long time plinker.

Luv ta make things go bang. Shoot squirrels , beer cans , paper plates and turtles. I own a Ruger 10/22, Marlin .22 mag. M#925m , Marlin 39a lever action .22 and a Ruger M#77 in .22 K Hornet. Yup I like .22's.

Hi there, my name's Jim. For my newbie introduction, I'll post about my range session today. My local range is the Bountiful Lion's Club range, up on the mountain by the B. I recently got a 2002 Ruger Mini-14 with a Choate folding stock(not a big fan of folding stocks, but it does pack nicely), and a cheapie Bushnell 3-9x38 scope. I traded my LCP and $49 for it(with cooler weather comes the ability to conceal my PT1911 under a jacket, son no need for the smaller gun until spring). The price was right, but it didn't include a magazine or the operating rod guide(forearm liner). I guess none of the aftermarket stocks come with them, and a lot of people don't realize how important it is. An order from Midway USA got me the liner, a factory Ruger 20rounder, and a John Masen flash-hider(bought bc many claim they enhance the older mini's accuracy, and I like the look;).
Anyway, at the range I loaded up and proceeded to sight in at 50yds. I moved the scope when I tore down and inspected the rifle, so it was way off. I had also set it back as far as possible in the mounts, which wasn't far enough for proper eye relief(and they folding stock doesn't help eye-alignment and cheek weld). I was shooting from the bench, with the forearm resting on a home-made rest(two wood blocks nailed together with a V cut in the vertical one). After I got it sighted, I had no problem shooting a sub 2" group. At 100yds, with a little elevation adjustment, I shot 4" five shot groups as fast as I could acquire the target(about 1-sec between shots). I shot 40rds, and the barrel was nice and hot, but the gun held POA and had no fliers or malfunctions. This made me very happy, as I've read a lot about the Mini's rep for fliers and changing POA with a hot barrel. Right after I finished the rangemaster came out a said, gruffly, "Ten rounds per magazine, with a FULL three seconds between shots." I thanked him for informing me of that rule and apologized for my ignorance of it.
I then moved onto my Taurus PT1911, which I haven't shot since I repaired the rear sight set screw. I refinished the gun last spring(it was a Duo-tone, which is basically parkerized but has brushed sides on the stainless slide). I fully disassemble it, stripped the finish with vinegar, and sanded/polished the entire gun. The slide is mirror polished, and the frame I reblued. During that time I also added an EGW angle-bored barrel bushing and modified the stock ambi safety by grinding off the left-hand safety lever(it always caught on clothing while cc'ing and clicked off). The bushing, which required minor fitting, really helped the accuracy, which was the only thing I disliked about the gun. Anyway, I start firing three shot groups, trying to sight in. It was all over the place at 25yds. I was like, ***? So I inspect the sights, and sure enough, the rear was already loose. Guess I'll have to Loctite it after all. After tightening it, I got a 4" group, standing at 25yds. I then shot a couple 1.5" groups at 15 yards. For me, that's damn good. I've never shot for groups with this gun, I've just shot probably a little over 1000 rounds through it plinking. More practice, and maybe I can improve that 25yd group.
After that, I shot my sister's G19. I like the gun(for concealability, and comfort), but man, its accuracy isn't great. At 15yds the best I could get was a 4" three-shot group. The POI was just all over the place. It works great for shooting cans, but she won't be doing any target competition with it. And, I don't like the trigger, at all.
All in all, it was a nice hour and a half of shooting. I'm happy with the Mini-14, although I'm hoping a Glass-bedding will improve the accuracy even more, so I can really reach those 'yotes. It's nice to be a member of the site finally, after reading many, many posts over the last few months. Jim

New member from Markleysburg PA

Just purchased my FN SCAR 17S.
What a beauty! Shot German Surplus ammo (MEN.. 94 - 147 gr.) It doesn't recoil at all! (well...much below expectations.)
I equipped it with LEUPOLD Mark 4 2.5-8x36 MR-T M2 Illum. reticle scope mounted onto Countersniper 30mm, HIGH. Perfect match.
Also, a GripPod (military with stainless steel).
Together, it is quite a system.
Glad to be a member!
Would like to ask so many questions - time will bring them on. As for now, very happy with my FN.
By the way:
How to post my questions for everyone to see in discussion board?

Newbie Intro and 1st Question

My name is Jeff and glad to find the Board. I live near Chattanooga TN and guns are just one of my passions. Motorcycles are another.

This 1st visit I'm looking for any information on the markings on my M1 Garand. Although the receiver S/N says Springfield Armory and indicates 1942, I have what was supposed to be the barrel that came with the gun and it is marked Blue Sky / Arlington, VA. (it currently has a match grade barrel that was purchased in 1995 from Springfield Inc.).

From what I've been reading is those barrels (Blue Sky) are imports so now I'm wondering about the authenticity of the entire gun. Any info appreciated.

I am a new member and a new gun enthusiast. I just purchased my first pistol, which is a glock 22, and I am dying burn through this ammo. I live in the Olympia, Wa area and am looking for good places to target practice or whatever. I know about the ranges sort-of, but I have heard about a rock pit near oly that is accessible for the public and free. Can anyone tell me where this rock pit is?

Hello, everyone. I'm George in Oregon. "A freakin' lion" was what little Tommy said when he was reading out loud to his mother. She raised her eyebrow and looked down onto the page was a picture of a lion with the caption, "African Lion."
I used to bring home all the goodies my dealer couldn't sell to anyone else. He'd make me offers I couldn't refuse.
The FAL was the only gun building project I was able to complete. My friends and I built several back when they were cheap and everywhere. Mine was built from all new-in-the-wrap parts that looking back cost me way more than a new rifle from DSA. But I did it all myself and that is what matters. I learned so much about legalities, construction methods, and all I could about all the variations. That was priceless. And now the rifle doesn't look new. I could have bought a gun with what I spent on tools and gauges. It was sure fun though! More projects will follow I'm sure.
I dream of Africa. I want a Cape Buffalo memory of my own.

Hello gentlemen

Good to see such an active forum here. Lets see, I am an Oregon native with about 15 years experience with all type of firearms having come from a military family. I am currently in the process of finishing college and preparing for WW3. Hope all of you guys have food and supplies ready for the coming insurrection.
Good luck out there-

Hey, everyone. Like alot of others, I joined because I've been lurking on here for awhile to get answers for questions concerning firearms. Any questions you have for me, send me a PM.

Hi

Hello everyone, my name is Tom, I'm 16 yrs old and unfortunately from NYC. I got interested back in firearms back when I was 15 and my interest has been growing ever since. As you can probably guess, it's extremely hard to do anything related to guns in NYC so I occasionally go to a range out in Long Island, although it's extremely expensive. In my free time, I enjoy reading books and articles online about firearms of all different types. I am planning on enlisting in the Marines next year when I turn 17 for Small Arms Repair. I'm also planning on a firearms related career. I joined this site to talk to experienced shooters so I can continue to learn more. I cannot wait to move out of NYC and finally purchase my first gun and start shooting already!

Thanks,

Tom

Hi all. I have been a recent lurker, trying to educate myself about handguns. Just purchased my first - a Sig Sauer SP2022 in 9mm. Anxious to get some range time with it. Thank you all who have given your time to help educate us newbies!
