Hello all. I'm Hank from South Texas. I've been reading THR for two or three years, and have found a wealth of firearms knowledge, from the generally practical to the impractically specific.
I'm a hunting enthusiast, though I rarely find the time. I don't really trophy hunt, and I only hunt what I eat. I've been hunting for close to twenty years. I mostly hunt whitetail, dove, and quail, though recently I've taken up pig and rabbit. I recently started processing my own game. I hope to figure out how to successfully tan a hide sooner or later.
Aside from hunting, and as a natural consequence to growing up hunting, I enjoy various shooting sports. While I enjoy precision rifle shoots, I really get my kicks breaking clays. I'll occasionally shoot a regulation match, but mostly I just shoot whatever is fun. I do a lot of hand throwing with friends and family and automatic throwers with electric wobblers to vary shots.
That being said, I've taken to short distance (20–100 yd) shoots with semi-auto rifles - AR and AK. I enjoy shooting handguns, though I'm hardly proficient. I'm working on it though. My most recent purchase was a Savage .17 HMR, both for an affordable way to spend some time working with magnified optics and to rabbit hunt.
A friend of mine recently started reloading, and it rubbed off on me. I recently bought everything needed to start reloading .223/5.56 in small runs, though I haven't made it over to his bench yet. I'll get there.
A belated thanks for all the past information, and a thanks in advance to future sharing. Glad to be here.
