Hi,

I always seem to end up on this site, no matter what I'm searching, and I finally got tired of only getting part of the thread, so I decided to join and save myself the trouble. :D

New from Georgia

My husband and I started a website, www.lockandloadarms.com and he is a cowboy shooter, Ohio fast draw & SASS. I am the brains behind the operation. And he has turned the back part of our property into a shooting range.
So we live and breath firearms of all kinds.

Hi everyone,

My name is Robert and I am new to this forum. I don’t know all that much about firearms, but I have developed an interest in them as of late.

I use to shoot many years ago, as a young boy, with my uncle on his farm in PA. I acquired a few firearms from him, but through the years for the need of money, I foolishly sold some. I sold a 30 30 lever action rifle, an old H&R 16 Gauge Single shot, shotgun, and an H&R .22 revolver.

However, what I still have left from him is a Charter Arms .38, revolver, with a 2” barrel, also a Beretta .25, model 950 -jet fire, which my aunt, his wife, has just recently given to me. My uncle passed on a few years back.

I just recently purchased a Stoeger, 20 gauge, double barrel, coach gun. It's a nice gun and fun to shoot.

For conceal carry I usually take along a small Taurus 380, but when I am out on the road, I will also take along my Taurus Judge. This is just about my total inventory of firearms, for now anyways.

The one thing that I have learned about firearms however, is how dang expensive they’ve become. I remember that prices years ago weren’t nearly as high. I guess guns can make a good investment.

At any rate, I just thought I would post and introduce myself to you. I look forward to getting better acquainted with you all and gaining a better understanding of guns.

Regards

Hello everyone,

I'm Michael Martin out of Woodbury Minnesota. I'm lucky enough to have a career writing about these great topics (firearms, personal protection, home defense, etc.). When I'm not doing that, I spend a good chunk of my time as a firefighter with the city of Woodbury, where in addition to responding to our station three, I manage all of the department's public education and recruiting. The rest of my time is spent with my great little boys, and my wonderful wife Sara.

Hello everyone,
I've been a outdoorsman, serviceman, even mild adventurer for 20 years and I have finally
decided to join a forum or two.
I enjoy everything the outdoors has to offer, and I still camp in a tent or back of my 1990 ford f150 (straight 6)
I am a budget minded fellow, and I enjoy many (and all)shooting sports.
I don't believe you have to have a "name brand" to have a good rifle (particularly ar's).
my primary caliber(s) have been and always will be .243 ,7.62x39, 5.56, 9mm,.45,12g,20g&.22
I have always been able to put meat on the table or defend with these and see no reason to change to the latest "buy me" caliber.
I believe in shot placement and clean kills when taking game.
I have used wolf 5.56 in my mini 14 for 20 years and she still puts a .75 group at 100(hp,not fmj don't ask why don't know fmj is solid 1.2ish).
my ar's do very well with wolf as well, I just clean my weapons after shooting that day.
I look forward to some nononsense information sharing.
I'm not an armchair commando,I won't embelish or bs ya, if I did it I'll tell ya.
Have great day everyone
blazer1a
ps I recently upgraded to an xd9 I love the accuracy and feel of this weapon it's awesome. eats blazer and wolf all day long lol.

Pushing the Yeager envelope

Hi,

I am a gun revivalist, having purchased my first gun about a year ago. I was nieve enough to think [at that time] that gun technology has advanced along with the digital landscape, into the 21st century. So far, my impression is that it has fallen back to the old defaults, and not without intervention. This saddens me. I shot marksman M-16 in the Air Force 1977. I bought my first gun, Ruger SR40, wanting the edge of the EU 10mil but not the kick. Frist impressions of the Ruger... it is a rock tosser! I believe this gun can be drug through the mud and still shoot [at same accuracy]. Suppose it suffices for it's designed purpose. I found a friend at the shooting range who has a strong affinity for guns and customized his Kimber 45s. He has several although, one in particular has (for lack of a better explaination) a bullshido like soul. Feedback and control is soo smooth that it got me looking into the transverse wave harmonics of the blast "ring"/bullet velocity harmonics. This probably has nothing to do with bullet flight unless some auto/semi-auto harmonics overlap but it is a great pleasure to feel! So, I bought a Savage 308 for hunting and practice. Depending on ammo (purchased) it had a range of "feel" of a wood mallet to plastic mallet. Some Chech ammo I found at a show (762x51) almost gave it a metal mallet feel... post bullet eject "ring" was more... of a metal-"ring" than a "bong", "boing" or worse like a drummer's symbol. It was always my plan to start reloading. When I fell in love with the development notes on the 338 Lapua Magnum from the bullet ballistics, travel I had to buy a (Savage 110BA) 338 Lapua Magnum before they are removed from the public landsacpe altogether. Got me some Hornady ammo 285gr and set out to make sure all shots were;
  1. in the bullseye
  2. below the horizon
  3. would not deflect above horizon
(allot of travel beyond the 100 yard "A-typical" range). After 3 shots, one gets stuck in the chamber. Did some basic cleaning and debug but still after 3rd shot, one gets stuck in the chamber. Dealer said Savage blames ammo, Hornady blames Savage chamber. Gun smith recommends polishing the chamber 400 grit wetsand. I went to buy some Privy Partsan 338 lapua ammo. Put in the order and got an email the next day "Order Cancelled". I called and asked why the order was cancelled and the sales support said the "primers were bad" and they had to send every box they had back to manufacturer...[hmmmm?] So now I have to reload. I am leaning toward a Rock Chucker press (need that 4.25+ clearance, and I want to reload my other cal. a little latter) with Redding dies.
Found some good observations on here and signed-up. Anyone in the 338 Lapua loading conudrum and have some advice... I am open minded. [I am also suspicious that the best ammo manufacturing for 338 Lapua (Lost River J40) was submarined and the landscape (even reloading) is mined with traps and fiscal genocide)] :scrutiny: I plan on using the Lapua to go hunting since a disability from the Air Force left me with an asmatic condition, chasing game is not in my fortune.

So that is about me. I love that 2600-3000 FPS bullet flight challenge. I "think" it is still "doable" in the USA but I am having growing doubts.
