Hello
Hello everyone. My name is Scott. In my 50's, wife of 32 years, 4 sons, 1 a Marine, formerly with HQ Company (PMO), 29 Palms. Have a small arsenal of pistols and revolvers. Live in the KC area. Have had more jobs than Frank Sinatra sings about in "That's Life"; haven't been a king but was a mayor in a Missouri 4th class city making the Police Department my sole responsibility - didn't have to share with the Board of Aldermen. So...to help the small force out, I was certified a Class A Peace Officer. Carried the 1st Gen Glock 19. In fact, convinced the Board of Aldermen to buy Glock 17's for all street officers. In 1989 that was a radical thing in my neck of the woods. Had a couple of wheel gun guys none to happy but the majority was very happy.
Sometime after that I was ordained as a minister of the Gospel, which brings me to explain about my stupid handle - Holyman - which I am NOT, at least the majority of the time. But shortly after taking office as mayor I had a local wacko, a huge bear of a man in his 60's or 70's, walk into City Hall and in front of me, my Chief of police, the city clerk and the city collector and calmly say he was going to kill me when he had the chance. He was a bit busy at the moment. His message delivered he thanked us for our attention. I said, "You're welcome." Before I could turn to go to my office my Chief pressed an ancient Colt .25ACP in my hand and whispered, "Use this until you can find something better. JoeBlow will kill you if he remembers he made the threat." So...Class A certification and a Glock 19 "hot."
All this got me thinking about my Faith and if I would have to put JoeBlow down (or at least piss him off with a mag full of .25's It really would have been a toss up between this guy and a Grizzly) Romans 13 says the Authority God "ordains" - & by extension, all the way down to policemen - are God's "servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment to the wrongdoer." Ok, I can put JoeBlow down with a clear conscience if necessary; I was an agent of wrath. Joe did try to take me out once. My city vehicle, an unmarked Dodge Diplomat looked rather like another citizen's in town. The Sheriff informed me that Joe t-boned this poor guy into a tree at high speed thinking he was me...both Joe and the other driver were ok, more or less. That Dodge highway patrol package was one tough mother. That said, I am most partial to Crown Vics.
Now, I am just a citizen. The State of Kansas says I have the right to carry a concealed weapon and to use it if necessary and under review of the State. I have been dying to get a permit well, since 92. But conscience has once again kicked in. I'll be applying for a permit soon. Unlike some of you who have permits or who are certain beyond a doubt you do have the right of self defense (and that is VERY OK with me) I will still have doubts each time one of my battery goes into my waistband - except when it comes time to take action. That battery btw is a 4 gun rotation: Eva, a Ruger SR22 .22LR; Magda, a Beretta Model 70 .22LR; Chief, my 1st Gen Glock 19, and Providence, a .45ACP, Smith & Wesson, Semi-Auto Chief's Special (yes, it does exist, look in the catalogs for "CS-45" And maybe just for fright value, my as yet unnamed Charter Arms .44SPL Bulldog.
Well...that's it for now.
