I have been trying to get a definitive answer on this for quite some time. I have read the guidlines for CC at packing.org and even the NMDOPS.org but cant seem to get an answer.

Both of those websites state that carrying of a firearm, OC or CC, in an establishment that sales alcohol for consumption either; on premises or off,is illegal. Furthermore, anyone caught doing so is guilty of a 4th degree felony.

I recently stumbled across an internet forum discussing this matter.(Sorry I tried to re-find the site, but couldn't!) Someone posted a review of a bill that would allow CC in these establishments (with a CCW ONLY) OC would still not be allowed.

Can anyone clarify this for me? Can a CCW holder CC on/in these places?Or
can someone be kind enough to point me to another source of reliable information? Maybe I am just not good at reading and interpreting the laws!?

Thanks In Advance!

House Bill 588 (see here)

is stuck in the Senate Judiciary Committee after passing in the House.

A few more calls to your Senators wouldn't hurt, but time is running out.

Until this (or something else) passes it is a felony to carry anywhere that alcohol is sold, even if for off premises consumption (like your Smiths, Albertsons, 7-11, Allsups, or Wal-Mart).

Thank You for the information.

What do you mean by stuck?

A letter to both Bingaman and Domenici stating my support for the Bill to be passed?

Sorry for the apathetic questions, but thank you for your time!

By "stuck" I mean that it needs to pass out of the Senate Judiciary Committee and get to the Senate floor for a vote. Not the US Senate (so it won't do any good to contact Domenici or Bingaman), but your state Senator. (see this page to find your Senator)

The session ends this coming Saturday, so time is awfully tight.

I am pretty sure that Domeneci, and Bingaman are US Senators, not State Senators...calling them would do little good...that being said, I am new to the state, and have only met the two a few times...

Thank You so much for the help!

I e-mailed my Senator (Michael S. Sanchez) voicing my support for this bill(588). Hopefully something will transpire of it!

Has anyone else made contact concerning this issue?

No...

But he does live (literally) 5 blocks away from me. Maybe I should go see if he's at home tomorrow. :) (At least, that's his listed home address. I'm guessing he stays up in Santa Fe during the week, but who knows, maybe Senators can afford the gas to make the drive every day... ;) )

Of course, he's not on that committee.

I do own a house in the district of the chair of the Judiciary committee, though, maybe I should pretend like I live there and give him a call instead. :)

because NM has such a low population, every email counts. I have heard of bills being changed by just one interested party.
