I do not have a picture of my 1955 but I do have a picture of my 1960, not all wood though. Paid $200 for my 1955 and $375 for this one before prices went crazy.

Guys, thanks. I figured it would be more practical to just get a Wingmaster or 870P. I'm always amazed to see so many older Wingmasters sitting in racks getting passed by, I think I'll take a look at my local shop this weekend. :)

So this new blued/walnut 870 Police has a plastic trigger guard?

I've always wanted an older style one, but if this new special run version has a plastic trigger guard I'll be passing for sure. I got a nice Wingmaster and hell even my 1201FP has a metal trigger guard.

I picked up a '51 Wingmaster with a '74 barrel, rifle sights, for $175. Smooth as silk, blued & walnut, I love it.

Older models are not hard to find... if you want one, just do it.

The polymer trigger guard is a durable part that does the job well. But if you absolutely must have a metal trigger guard, just buy one. They're available.

DHART: Can you buy a birdshead grip for a Mossberg 500. I've looked I can't find one. I've been thinking about making one myself.

oldbanjo... funny thing. I wanted a birdshead grip for my 500 and searched exhaustively to find one... all to no avail. Speedfeed quit making them for the 500 because the mold they were using had "870" stamped on the side, even though the part was made to fit the 500. They got so many returns from people who thought they had received the wrong birdshead that instead of fixing the mold, they just stopped making them for the 500. Speedfeed wasn't willing to spend the money to remove the "870" marking from the mold!

Then I found out that I could find birdshead grips for the 870 and the 1300. So I decided to look into what the 1300 was all about. Once I learned about the 1300, I decided I wanted one of them for sure. Now I have THREE.

While I love the 870P, 500, and 590 (and have them as well), there isn't a pump shotgun I would prefer to the 8-shot Defender if I had to go up against trouble. I am comfortable that any of these pump guns would perform the task very well, but there is something about the combined size/capacity/features of the 1300 Defender that makes it my top choice in a defense shotgun. Having an 8-shot capacity with a short 18" barrel length, utilizing a one-piece, full-length mag tube (no extensions) really appeals to me. Add the quick and smooth cycling action and the Winchester 1300 Defender is a winner!

DHART: Thanks for the answer. I read an article about the 1300 a while back (years) that got me interested in a short shotgun with a PG. The article was about a model for the Police, I think it had a 14" barrel. I've got a 500, 18 1/2" barrel, heat shield, Marble tritium front sight and PG. Mine came with both stock & PG and heat shield from Mossberg it's 5+1. One of these days I'll make a birdshead grip for it.

I got a Mossberg pistol grip with my 18.5" Persuader, tried it once and decided it was a terrible grip angle for me, so I never use it. The birdshead grip angle, on the other hand, is the same as the neck on a regular shotgun stock... feels great!

I got my first copy of this a while back and then ordered another one. Looks like it will be awhile on the 2nd. They seem to be coming out of Remington in just a light trickle. I do believe this will be the last run of them.

JD at AIPTactical has a lot of dealings with Remington and his view is that they are doing this run to close out on the walnut stock police models. And it stands to reason... these days demand from law enforcement for walnut stocks and highly polished blued steel has to be about ZERO. Today the buzz is all about tactical, which means synthetic stocks and parkerized (or cheap black oxide) finishes. There could be a special run of these down the road, perhaps, but it stands to reason that Remington just wants to be rid of their stock of walnut stock sets (which are different than the walnut they use on the Wingmasters).

Did you get a replacement for the one you sold?

Rats, I bought an 870 Express in March. I thought I liked it until this thread popped up on my screen. The 870p with the wood stock is beautiful. I need one desperately. I have that feeling I get just before I do something stupid and end up with 2 of something. I could take a loss on the Express I guess...Or I could just back away from the computer and go watch TV for a while.

Sorry to dumping old thread, but was this 870P #24899 limited run / no longer in production? Because I contacted local gun shop and they told me "no longer in production". :(

I bought one late last year from Lou's Police Distributors. Email or call Linda. She's great.

This is a great thread. I was looking for one of these new Walnut Stocked 870 Police. Last I have seen these was in the early 90s. I tried to get my local FFL order one of these and he couldn't deliver this model. Thank's for the lead. I've got a few 870s, but this is the far nicest looking 870 Police being offered. At least Remington had the forsight to produce this shotgun!

Togglelock... glad you appreciate the thread. I have to agree, this is Remington's most desireabale 870, in my personal view.

I haven't spoken with Linda @ Lou's Police in quite some time, so I'm not sure if they are still available from Remington. Give Linda a call... if anyone can confirm for sure if this model is still available, it is Linda! And please update us on the status. Thanks.
