I have a 7.5" New Model Blackhawk in .45 Colt. While I like the gun just fine, I am not a fan of the Blackhawk's larger grip frame when compared to the New Vaquero.

Does anyone know if you can replace a New Model Blackhawk grip frame with a New Vaquero grip frame? If so, is it a drop-in endeavor, or would it require some fitting?

Honestly, the only reason I even own this Blackhawk is because I regretted selling my 7.5" New Vaquero in .45 Colt years ago, and just can't find them anymore. But if I could get the grip frame down to a New Vaquero size, I think I'd be content.

Thanks.

The nv frame, which is xr3 size, will bolt onto your nmbh but it will need fitting. You might find a takeoff grip frame and have an okay fit. I just sold such a frame, as I changed the xr3 size frame for the xr3-red.

There was a change to the ears height and a corresponding change to the hammer base around '97. The older ones were "short" and the newer ones "tall". So be advised of that.

The xr3-red frame I bought, new from midway, had not the largest ears, and the hammer from my nm flattop bh was proud. I used an old hammer and fitted the ears to that. I used a stainless frame so I didn't have to have it blued, but I wanted that look.
