I recently purchased a New Model Blackhawk .45Colt/45ACP switch cylinder. My other Blackhawks have come with wood grips installed but this one unfortunately was only available with the black plastic Ruger grips. I am trying to find Ruger wood grips for this one but Ruger customer service has told me that the wood grips on their website won't fit the gun and I need to special order a set through them for almost $50. I'm finding information elsewhere online that leads me to believe that the Blackhawk grips on their website will fit. Has anyone purchased a blued New Model Blackhawk recently and had luck installing the standard Ruger wood grips? If not, any clarification regarding the grip frame that the blued New Model Blackhawks have would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just ordered new model blackhawk grips, plenty of makers have something the frame should be the xr3 not red, I believe Midway or (more likely) Brownells has them as factory stock. I went with something a lil less traditional but the xr3 frame fit was just fine.

Nope, it's a recent production blued convertible model. No internal lock and not one of the special flat top models. It's the standard new model style Blackhawk.

Chigs grips makes some nice wood grips with the Ruger logo. His prices are great also.

I just ordered a burl walnut blank for a .44 Spl Blackhawk coming my way, and Dogwood burl inserts for my SRH .454 from Chigs. I can’t wait to see them in person!

Stay safe.

I downloaded this graphic on Ruger SA Frame Grips a while back but have lost the explanatory text. Might help with an ID on the frame you have / grips you need?

I don’t know if this will help but if you click this link for Altamont grips then scroll down to the reddish box labeled “Click HERE for help identifying your Ruger frame” their graphic may help you.

By the way, I have put Altamont grips on several of my Rugers and they are wonderful grips for the money.
Those should fit. Their bonded ivory is quite nice. The factory grips are just way too thin for me.

Yes, the Altamont bonded ivory fits my New Vaquero quite nicely and beefs up the grip. A good buy for $28. (3 years ago). Now $41. Don’t know what the ones that fit the Blackhawk cost.
