For me it was Skeeter Skelton writing about the .44 Special in "Shooting Times" magazine that made me want to have one.

Got Flat Top 44 Special?

Of course, with my Rugers (and bad luck) it had to immediately go back for a new cylinder, but that was quick and free, and all is well. My other Flat Top is a 41 Magnum.

My late model Ruger .44Spl has been fitted with ivory by Rob Rowen and will probably become a full custom gun in 2017 but....

Howdy

I guess I missed the boat on the 44 Special Blackhawks. Looks like all that is available now are the Bisley models and I don't care for the Ruger version of the Bisely grip. I was thinking of sending this 357 Mag Three Screw off to have it converted to 44 Special a few years ago, but somehow I never got a Round Tuit. If I send it out, I don't think I will have it refinished, I really like the plumb coloring on the loading gate.

Until I get off my butt about converting the Three Screw, I guess I'll have to limp along with my only 44 Special single action, this 1908 Bisley Colt that was refinished and fitted with a 44 Special cylinder, barrel, and fancy grips.

Of course, let's not forget Smith and Wesson invented the 44 Special. I can always take these guys to the range if I feel an overpowering need to be shooting some 44 Specials.

I have a few others, but let's not be greedy with the bandwidth.

I know about him, I've read his writings since the late 50s & his liking of the .44 Special. He quit the .45 in favor of the .44 Special because he could load it heavier in the guns of his day. I've shot his loads & especially his old 2400 load is very heavy.
