The OK Dep't. of Agriculture has announced new rules for OK hog hunting ranches and the transport of feral hogs.

The changes:

1. A $25 license is required for each individual hunting at a "ranch".
2. No new hog hunting ranches will be allowed.
3. Transporters of wild hogs must obtain a license for each shipment of wild hogs. This will impact those who sell wild hogs.

In reading the 3 bullet points listed above, I would only have objection to item 2 which limits capitalistic competition, and limits rightful and legal use of personal property.

No qualms from me about a $25 license for hunting on a ranch - better than requiring a (potentially out of state) hunting license, and no qualms from me about regulating folks who capture wild game and transplant it for the purpose of hunting onto a ranch. Can't go trap deer and take them to a hunting ranch without regulation, hogs should get the same respect, nuisance animal or not.

There were lots of wild hogs in Florida that were 'transferred' to hog hunting outfits in Tennessee where they were marketed as "Russian boars". These Florida hogs are known to carry brucellosis and pseudo-rabies.

I'm glad to see that Oklahoma is trying to do something about their problem. If more ranches are licensed, more hogs may be imported with diseases so putting a moratorium on new hog hunting outfits is a good step.

I would just rename and change the business structure. What I am seeing in that story is just a step away from going to the butcher.

Instead of the "commercial hunting area" sign on the front gate put a "meat market" sign and have a "twist" in selection. Instead of pointing at the cut you want you "tag" it with whatever firearm you happened to bring with you...
