Found a police trade in Remington 870
for $95 out the door today. She has some cosmetic probs. but seems mechanically sound. Serial #475544V.
I'll be giving her some TLC this weekend, some new bluing and tung oil after sanding down the stock.
Any advice or info would be great, thanks.

Here's some advice - Find another one of these and purchase it for $95 or less.

Then give it to me.

Congrats on the great find! Let's see some before and after pics!

Squib...

too damn funny! I wish I'd had the jack to buy 4 or 5 of them. I think that they had 12 in all, ranging from $95 to $145 depending on the cosmetic condition. All seemed mechanically sound and were clean inside. Some rust, some pitting, some worn bluing, furniture gouges and scrapes, some missing butt plates. All looked like they'd seen police cruiser action and neglect.

Cruisers are almost always beat up outside, near new inside. Chances are there's not been 500 rounds through that.

Deep clean, check springs and the head of the firing pin. A thin coat of lube and try it out. If it works OK, which is very likely, fix it up as you wish.

gburner: I'm seriously in the market; those aren't anywhere near my area, are they? Southeast West Virginia; or think Roanoke, VA-Charleston, WV
Great buy, used 870's of any kind are practically non-existent in this area.
Stay safe.
