So I just saw a you tube video on xtreme bullets channel. They introduced powder and primers at SHOT show this year. Powder available second quarter. Obviously there's not much info around but I just wonder if it's Maxaam powder. The csb1 and csb5 and what have you. I think I read Maxaam was in the process of getting their containers DOT certified. But I can't help but wonder...

Has anyone else heard any more info? Maybe they're making it themselves I dunno. I'm just wondering and speculating.

I went and found and watched the video. I am surprised. I have been purchasing 9mm and 40/10mm Cu plated bullets. I get a daily spam email from them, I did not see this coming. How can you figure out where they source the powder?

Are they going to sell powder and primers as a retailer or market their own brand? With all the big boys in the market that will be some nut to crack...

With the constant powder shortages now is the perfect time for a little guy to step up. The big ships are slow to meet demand and that leaves it wide open for the small ones to get in. If they get enough market share before the big guys catch up they will be a prime buy out target. I wish them luck the regulations will be a nightmare.

Talked to them at shot. Powder will supposedly be coming out of Hungary. The old Rex plant burnt down, so I'm guessing it's an old Olin plant.

Primers should be us made.

They had no load data available when I asked.

X-Treme owns Freedom Munitions. They probably buy large lots of powder and primers. My guess is that they are packaging powders/primers they are using for their pistol/rifle ammunition for retail sales.

With the powder shortage we have experienced recently, it was probably a good time to break into the powder market but more and more popular powders are coming back in stock more frequently, so I am not so sure. It's one thing to sell relabeled powders with known/proven loads but it's another thing to sell proprietary mix of powders without load data. I am quite certain X-Treme will either point to existing load data published under different names or publish their own load data.

Then there are other factors such as flake/granule size, flow/metering characteristics, relative burn rate, load range, position/temperature sensitivity, relative dirty/clean burning, accuracy of loads and price.

It will be interesting to see how X-Treme prices the powders and primers. There will be first wave testers and I will await their evaluations as I already have my favorite loads for the calibers I load for and will be restocking my powder stock as more popular powders become available. If the initial reviews are very good like Alliant's BE-86, I may consider testing their powders.

I hope they get things right because they not only have to compete with Hodgdon/ IMR/ Winchester, Alliant and Western Powders but Vihtavuori and Norma too.

Years ago we have only a handful of powder to choose from but today we have a half dozen powders filling all spots on the charts. Today we have at least 165 - 170 powders to choose from. That is an amazing number of powders available to us reloaders...

Interesting. I'm really curious to see the load data when it comes out. Freedom Munitions and Xtreme are no small mom and pop outfit of course. They have quite a following that grows all the time. If their powders are any good at all I don't think they'll have too big an issue succeeding.

I think it's great. More choices breeds better competition. That just means a win for us reloaders. More in the pipeline is a good thing I think. And with the number of reloaders growing all the time I think more volume and more choices can do nothing but help. Im really curious to learn more about it as it becomes available.

That's my point though, with over 165 different powders on the market already will the powders from them really be "different" or just another relabeled offering we already have?

Excellent point and I'm rather anxious to find out the answer.

Good question.

If they plan to sell/distribute new powders, this would have been great news 18 months ago. With some of the high-demand powders coming back available now, there isn't nearly as much incentive for people to stray from their pet loads and try something new. On the other hand, if these are existing powders that are relabled, that people are already familiar with, then the timing now would not be bad.
