I purchased a Ranch Rifle today, I haven't shoot it yet but I love it so far. I picked up a box of Perfecta ammo because it was cheap and it looked good and has brass cases. Does anyone have experience with non Ruger mags. Also I noticed that the end looks threaded is that for a muzzle brake. Thanks. Will have to upload pics later.

Yes that is for a muzzle brake or flash suppressor. And have only used the snaildrum magazine other than factory mags. I would not buy it . Nothing but failure. Never had a problem with factory ruger mags. Spend the extra money and stick with the original brand. Goes for most guns.

John Mason magazines are as good as factory, or better. It is my understanding that John Mason bought the magazine dies from Ruger sometime before the Clinton so-called "High cap magazine ban. IMHO the Mason mags are better than current factory Ruger magazines. The metal is thicker, the tell tale convex dimple (used to eliminate slop) on the back below the lug is indicative of early Ruger factory mags. I buy thirty rounders, 2 for $40, from this source....

I don't mean to be offensive, but I don't understand the thought process here. You spent good money to get a quality weapon, but aren't willing to spend a few bucks more than you'll spend for questionable aftermarket mags to get known good quality factory mags. Forgive me if I think that's a questionable place to scrimp on cost.

The current Thermold mags work perfectly in mine after breaking in.

Each required 4-5 rounds thru it before the spring would close the bolt.

I purchased some after market 20 round mags from Sportsman's Guide about a year ago and so far no problems. In fact they look just like my 20 round mags made by Ruger except they don't have the logo.

I purchased a few 10, 20, and 30 round SS P-Mags for my SS ranch rifles. These work well but a couple 30 round aftermarket blued ones with no markings I got used are not so reliable. I got a couple 10 round factory Mags with two of my rifles and they operate the same as the P-Mags IMHO.

I've had one Mini-14 since 1976 and the other since 2010. The only malfunctions I've had with either were with aftermarket magazines.

I tossed those and stick with Ruger magazines.

I purchased several John Mason magazines when I bought my rifle new last October.
The John Mason magazines have been hit or miss in my rifle - usually failure to pickup/strip/feed round from the magazine.
Of the 7 mags I have purchased 3 have never failed
I have since begun purchasing factory ruger mags.
Not one problem so far with factory ruger mags - none.
I just ordered more - wish I had done it from the start it would have saved me head ache and money.

I've only had Ruger factory 5-rounders and ProMag 10-rounders. Aside from being about 75% longer, the ProMag mags are nearly identical. The followers and floorplates look like they came from the same factory. They also function pretty much identically.

I have heard people saying they didn't like the ProMag's, citing reliability issues, but the metal 10-rounders I have seem to work just fine; through the 2000 rounds or so I've put through the rifle in the year I've owned it, they've worked just as well as the Ruger mags.
