Hello all,

I am putting together a new dear/elk/any game I might want to shoot gun. This will be my only bolt action after I sell my current gun. I want to keep it light but durable as I do alot of hiking and mountain biking while hunting. It is going to be a Browning A-bolt 30.06 stainless stalker. I will be mounting a Swarovski 3-9x36 AV scope. My question is, what rings and bases should I use to get the most durability. I am currently looking at the Leupold dual dovetail mount/rings and the warne weaver style mount/rings. Which do you think is better and why. Also, I am open to any suggestions you may have.

Thanks,
Jason

I'd buy one of the Dednutz one-piece ring combos. If I was buying rings only, I'd buy Burris Signature zee, no reason to scar up a Swarovski when you don't have to.

I've got some 4,000 rounds of '06 past Weaver rings and bases. Zero problems.

Conetrols are just as good if not better, and they're certainly more aesthetic. :)

Hard to find "bad" mounts, near as I can tell, leaving out the sooper-cheep stuff.

I recently went through the same dilema, having an old Leupold MK IV i wanted to mount on a new Tikka T3. After considerable digging, i leaned towards the Burris Zee rings, with their synthetic, non-maring inserts, but ended up going with the rings that seemed to get the most recommendations, Warne. I called Warne directly to find out exactly the ones i'd need, then found them the cheapest at SWFA, which as it turned out, was here i had purchased that leupold from, as well.

Jhark123;

Another vote for the Talley's. My set's holding a Zeiss on a Tikka in .338 Winchester magnum. The first try, Burris, failed the recoil test.

Talley or Leupold.

We've used Leupold for years with zero problems. I have them on my 7mm Rem Mag and my bro has them on his .300 Winchester.

My dad went with Talley on his custom .338 Remington Ultra Mag, because they are what the gunsmith recommended, and they also seem up to the task.

Vote for Warnes.

My Warne QD's (on a .30-06) are flawless, and I can take the scope off and put it back on without changing POI.

I'm not saying the others aren't great, as well. I can vouch for the Warnes, though.

I'll second the deadnutz suggestion. If durability is your thing NONE of the other scope mounting systems hold a candle to them.

I doubt you can go wrong with ANY of those mentioned by you and the others (Warne Maxima, Leupold 2-dovetail, Burris Signature Zee, Talley, or Dednutz) - the Leupolds are probably as good as any and make the setup more aesthetically attractive. I do use the Warne's on quite a few and they are extremely solid.

I am leaning towards the leupold dual dovetail, but I like the concept of the deadnutz mount. This is going to be a tough call.

Personally my favortie combo now is the Burris Zee rings on a weaver style base, hodls up to absolutely anything. I also have the Warne's on one rifle and they are very good. Even though they are not as pretty, I would go with a Weaver style base with whichever rings you choose, they are nearly bulletproof. Since it's going on a rifle with no iron sights don't even consider QR rings, I have them on a rifle with irons and they work well for that application, otherwise don't take the extra risk, no matter how small it may be.

Have a BIG (30mm 8x40x56) scope on a Laredo 7mm STW shooting heavy bullets, Leupold didn't work, installed one piece Talley lightweight.
Perfect. Gov't and L.E get a sweet price direct.

TALLEY all the way for me, from now on.

I do have leupold dual dovetails on a remy 375 Ultra mag, and they have worked so far, just don't have a practice use for those 300gr bullets flying over 3100fps. or a pain threshold.

Talley or Leupold.

We've used Leupold for years with zero problems. I have them on my 7mm Rem Mag and my bro has them on his .300 Winchester.

I second the leupold rings and most definitely you should be using a ONE PIECE BASE.

Affordable and durable, what more can you ask for?

What's the differerence between the purple lok-tite and the blue ?

The blue holds a little stronger than the purple and so breaks free a
little tougher. The Warne rings use Torx screws and some of those
drivers (the cheap ones I carry) can be a bit flimsy, so I use the purple,
but you should be fine with blue as mentioned.
