I'm home in Memphis for a short while and went looking for a 1911. I've been eye-balling the G.I. model from Springfield and upon handling it, it was sold. This thing is impeccable, fit and finish is fantastic, it lacks the firing pin safety and comes with the integral lock. I don't like the idea of an integral lock, but this set-up seems to be unimpending and won't affect it's operation. However, it has a pinned small front sight which I thought were milled into the top of the slide on the original military production 1911's. Also the ejection port is cut across the top of the slide where I thought the original military production just had a small oval ejection port cut at around a 45degree angle off the right side of the slide. I'm sure these differences have something to do with easier manufacturing and/or improvements for operation, but nonetheless, all-in-all, it seems to be a pretty good replication of the issue 1911-A1's. I have yet to shoot it, but it does feel great and there is a feeling of power, authority and permeates a sense of pre-political-correctness :).

I wish they had 3-dot sights back during WW1.

That's really my only gripe with the old USGI 1911s, those low profile hard-to-see sights. I bought one of those for my brother last X-mas. It doesn't see much use because he has a Kimber too, but the Springer was a nice solid gun and cost even less than a Glock.

I got to shoot it yesterday and it was a good time. It is plenty accurate even with the standard small sights and was mostly reliable. Feeding and ejecting were perfect in 127 rounds briefly cleaned from the box. The only problem I had was two light primer strikes, but after re-cocking and firing they fired normally. I used reloaded ammo from the range which I think was the culprit, however after inspecting one light primer strike it looked as if the firing pin struck off center of the primer and not dead center, peculiar. Anyway, I am totally happy and believe this one is a keeper.

I own one. Have a few thousand rounds thru it. It gave me problems once but I fixed it. Overall, a very good gun. Those small sights make for a smoother draw.

i have one, my only gripe about it was, it seemed to require a break in of around 500 or so rounds before it was reliable. I dont think any handgun should require this, but mine did, it was not feeding the last round, I also purchased a kimber magazine w/ a smooth follower, and that fixed the problem at first, but when i started to use the magazine that came w/ the pistol, it seemed to all fix itself.. I get the occasional jam, but not as frequent. Good pistol, yeah cheaper than a glock, but, if you want something that will fire everytime, go w/ a used glock. They look nice dont they??
