I took my son and one of his friends to the range the past Sunday. My son, 12 years old, has been with me before so this was nothing new for him. However, his friend, to my knowledge, has never fired a gun. I set them up with all the safety equipment, did the safety discussion, and let my son's friend have first go at the .22 rifle. After firing the first round, he turned to me and said "I've never felt so alive". We laughed and continued to have a great day shooting paper targets, tin cans, and clay targets. Both the boys did really well and had a mighty fine time running through about 300 rounds of ammo.

I would encourage or, even better, challenge every adult shooter to try to get at least one new shooter out to the range this year. More if you can manage it. The future of our sport rests on passing on this passion to the next generation.
