After several years of looking for an 870 Wingmaster, I found one at a gun show yesterday. I might have payed a bit much for it, but as I haven't seen one in almost 10 years, I went ahead and payed the money. It is a .410, it completes my 870 Wingmaster collection, 12ga, 20ga, 28ga, and now a .410. I have no interest in 16 gauges, as I shoot skeet, there was one on the rack beside it though, considerably cheaper than the .410.

It was clean enough that it looked like it had never been shot, although the man selling it said he had put a box of shells through it. Nice wood, no marks or blemishes anywhere on the gun, full choke, ought to be interesting on the skeet range when I get it out in a couple weeks.

Now I need to start a new collection, already have an 1100 collection. ;)

You needed to make a deal and get the 16 Ga. too, and failed. When you die they'd auction it off as the Kudu Collection. Now, you have no legacy. You must fix this and you never know when you'll be hit by a bus...

Good stuff. I'd love to see pics of your collection.

If you don't mind, why no 16 because you shoot skeet? Are they just not used, while the others are? If so, why?

Skeet or no skeet. No 16ga, no complete collection. Although I can fully understand why you chose to omit it since the 16 is no longer a sanctioned gauge. And as 16 gauges go, the 870 is not that desirable since it isn't scaled to gauge.

I stick with just the skeet four, 12, 20, 28, and .410. I have shot several different 16 gauges, they are fine, but I have absolutely no desire to have a 16 gauge at all. Nothing against them at all, just not for me. I have enough trouble keeping up with 4 kinds of shotshells, I keep the 10 gauge separate for goose hunting.

Now I wouldn't mind having a 24 or 32 gauge, they are sweet. Shells are a bit on the expensive side though.;)

Kudu;
The universe is out of balance -- you must have a 16 Ga. 870. I'm asking the members to be on the lookout for you. If you'd like, you could ask them to be on the lookout for a 16 Ga. 870 for you instead...

I own all the standard gauges 10 -.410. Thank heaven for internet ammo shopping.

I have a Winchester Model 12, Ithaca Model 37, Remington model 31, and a Stevens 520 (in the form of a Sears Ranger Model 30), all in 16 ga. The 16 was my Grandfathers gauge of choice for his only shotgun. That established my affection for them, and they were cheaper to collect than 20's or 28's

In the older guns that were scaled to gauge, they are a pleasure to carry and shoot. But in the 870 and 1100 they are nothing more than a 12ga with a 16ga barrel.

I'm envious of your 28ga and .410, I've held both of those at one time or another, and they are sweet, but more pricey than I'm willing to pay for a pump. As for the 24 and 32 gauges, I've seen the ammo but never a gun. Those would be a novelty.
Congrats on your new purchase....chas

Hello friends and neighbors // kudu - nice find on the .410 ,,any idea on the year.

I still need the .410 and 28ga. but you can borrow my 16ga. for a family pic.

Might I suggest a collection of Model 31s they are fine shotguns. Had to start mine before I finished the Wingmasters.

any idea on the year.

I haven't had time to find out when it was made, it has a fixed full choke, don't know if they still come with fixed chokes or not. My 28 was made about 10 years ago and has choke tubes.

Best choke in .410 in my opinion. You aren't working with a lot of shot to begin with. I like a choke in .410 that keeps it close together.
