'new' Sig 1911 styled .45ACP

I posted a 'fishing report' in the thread, below, regarding Kimber .45s and thought I'd start a new thread in hopes more people might see it.

My question is: does anyone have any feed-back about the 'new' Sig 1911 styled .45ACP?

I can't find out much about it other than off of Sig's web site.

I'm gonna be in the market for a .45 very soon. I'm siding with the 1911 style but I won't rule out other styles as well.

I look at it this way: regardless of the style funtion, fit and reliability takes top honors over appearance.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sig has always had a rep for reliability and accuracy but this is a 1911 in its infancy. Initial range reports from Sigforum members that have had a chance to shoot the prototypes have been average.... A few of the shooters have some problems with the guns that Sig set up for "research". The pistol is suppose to be out on the market any time now. I would wait for range reports from Sig 1911 owners before I take the plunge. Sig reps at the shoot assured the shooters that the production pistols were much better.

Wait it out and see how the production guns perform.

BTW-
I am currently running a Kimber Target II and a Sig 220ST. I love the ST much more than the Kimber. Both have been extremely reliable.

The first of the production GSRs should be hitting the shelves within the next few weeks, so some range reports will be likely. It appears it will be retailing in the under $850.00 range so it will be competing with the Kimber IIs, the Dan Wesson Patriots, S&W 1911 and the Springfield Loadeds. SiG has a reputation for building reliable handguns and the specifications and components appear to be top notch.

I have wanted a Caspian frame & slide for a while now & can't because of the testing required for the new hadnguns sold in CA. Since the SIG 1911 is essentially a built up Caspian frame & slide, I'm VERY interested

I know some products can have growing pains when they are first released, but on this one I'm going with my prior experiences with SIG firearms. All have been first-rate in every aspect. I have a GSR on order from my local shop and am still waiting for it to arrive. They quoted me $900 for a black version. Several things caught my attention on this 1911 variation, first would be the consistant level of SIG's quality, second, the quality of the caspian frame and slide, third would be the external extractor and firing pin safety. SIG also reports that the weapon will contain no MIM parts, to some this is a big matter.

I would suggest you wait and see how the guns perform. Any new item may have some teething problems. I agree SIG has an excelleent rep for quality control. So does BMW auto's and my friend has had her share of problems with her BMW. Good luck. I'm looking forward to some range reports.
