First, Let me begin by saying that I am an experienced and well-informed gun owner and enthusiast, so I don't need to be educated about Taurus handguns and how anyone who purchases a Taurus "must be an idiot". That being said, I suspect that there will be some Taurus-bashers unable to resist posting to this thread. To that end, I have donned my Nomex underwear, so flame away! To be fair, I do know that Taurus has had it's problems in the past, and there are people who have had legitimate negative experiences with some (mostly revolvers, I believe) models.

My goal was to find a reasonably-priced 9mm semi-auto for my daughter to have as a home-defense firearm. My plan includes setting up the gun with a rail-mounted laser/light combo. My daughter is not a gun enthusiast, so the gun I choose will spend most of it's time secured in a handgun safe under the bed, and fired maybe 2-3 times a year. I cannot afford an expensive gun (Glock, Sig, M&P, etc.) that will be unused most of the time, however, the gun I choose must be reliable, simple to use, and easy to rack the slide.

After considerable research (online reviews, YouTube reviews, etc.) I was unable to find a single negative review of the Taurus PT111 G2 Millenium. Hickock45 even gave it a glowing review (except he didn't care for the trigger break with his very large hands.)

Not being able to find any negative reviews, I went ahead and purchased one. I bought the gun from Palmetto State Armory for ONLY $199.00!!. They have them on sale occasionally at this price and I was able to snap one up. The list price is around $350.00 and Bud's, Grag-A-Gun, and other online retailers have them in the $230.00-$260.00 range, so I think I got a really good deal. Even after shipping and FFL fee, I was all-in for only $235.00!

The gun comes with 2 magazines, and a key for the Taurus built in security lock (which we will NOT be using). The gun comes with an adjustable rear sight (windage and elevation).

This morning I took it to the range. I ran around 150 rounds through it (combination of 115 & 124gr. FMJ range fodder and 124gr. HST JHP +P's). Right out of the box, the gun ran flawlessly, not a single malfunction. The gun was soft-shooting and dead-nuts accurate. The gun has re-strike capability. In the event a round does not fire, you simply pull the trigger again in DA mode. The SA trigger pull is characterized by a fairly long take-up and then a crisp break at the rear.

I plan to add a laser/light combo on the rail. I am researching those presently, and am looking for something fairly inexpensive. I would welcome any input in that regard.

In summary, let me say that I am not a Taurus fan-boy. This was my first (and likely only) Taurus purchase. The gun is well-made and reliable. It is however, a budget gun and I frankly would not be interested in having one in my personal collection, as I have many other guns that fill the same role. For its intended use however (moderately-priced home defense gun for my daughter) it is a good choice.

Sounds like a great buy for your daughter. Nothing wrong with any of the Taurus pistols I have had. Very reliable with decent triggers and build quality right out of the box. The only thing I didn't like about the PT111 Mil-Pro I had was that the grip angle just didn't feel comfortable to me. It always felt as if it was pointing too low as I tried to align the sights.

I've seen the Taurus deals pop up while I was waiting for a sale on the SAR B6P. When the Taurus PT111 G2 Millenium and the TCP go on sale they sell out quickly, its almost like you blink on the guns are out of stock and the sale is over.

I know four folks that have one of these cheap pieces of junk :cuss:....Including me. It's been a solid little gun for me so far with zero failures in 500 rounds in the two months I've had it. And zero failures in the other 3 that I know of...

For the money they just can't be beat. I always said I'd never own another Taurus after my turd of a PT145, but all the positive reviews and attractive price drew me over and changed my mind. For 220 bucks I could afford to give it a try.

I love this little pistol, I haven't shot it beyond 15 yards yet but from that distance it's plenty accurate with my pc'd cast reloads.

I suppose time will tell if it's reliable in the long term...

*****Be aware, the rail isn't standard, my light off my CZ won't fit the G2*******

When they go on sale for $199.00 they are super-tempting, the same thing with the TCP when it goes on sale for $169.00

I shot one at a gun shop grand opening; the Taurus rep provided the ammo, so heck yeah, I'll try it.

Nice! If I didn't already have my (non-turdy) PT145, I'd seriously consider one at $200. I also liked the 24/7 .45 Compact, which betters the PT145 by having ambi controls.

Good pick for your daughter, shilke!:)

I got one of these about a month ago. I had been seeing the sales & being tempted for months. I also had reservations because of all the negative posts I had seen about Taurus but I figured for $199.99 I would roll the dice. I too ordered from PSA. I believe I ordered on a Sunday & picked the gun up from the FFL on that Friday. I have about 140 rounds through it so far & it is fine. I like it & think it is an excellent value.

You mentioned the second strike feature. I would actually like the pistol better if it were double action only. I have dry fired with both triggers & the double action trigger actually feels better to me than the single action one. I will not use the second strike feature anyway. If I am in a defensive situation & a round does not go off on the first pull I am going straight to tap, rack, bang not pulling the trigger repeatedly.

I have seen so many negative posts about Taurus there is no way I can believe that all of them are without merit but my only experience with the brand is this pistol & my wifes little model 85 snubby. The snubby is fine & so far this gun seems to be also.

My son has a Ruger LCR that he doesn't like. A few days ago we went to the two LGS to see if he could find something he liked better. First off both shops offered him $100 for the LCR. I had done the research and haven't read anything negative about the Pt111 G2. I asked one shop if we could see the Pt111. His response was that he wouldn't sell a Taurus and would not take one in on trade. Wow! Talk about your Taurus bashing. Guess my son will be keeping the LCR for a while.

I disassembled the gun and removed the striker last night. I can tell you now the quality of this G2 is 10x better than my old PT145 that looked like it had been assembled of cheap pot metal by a 10yo kid.

I liked the design of the striker assembly, it' looked of pretty good quality.

I had one of the original PT-111s, purchased in 1997. It was one of my off-duty guns when I was an LEO, and my CCW for years afterward. Needless to say, it was totally reliable. If I was in the market for another 9mm, I'd give the newer version a look.

I bought a G2 about 6 months ago, I love it. I was one of the "never own a Taurus" people, but I bought this just because of the $199 price tag. It, as stated above, has been flawless in just about every way. It feels great in my hand too.
Perhaps the only negative thing I could say, is the rear sight setup. They are not user friendly when adjusting and caused me much problem in getting it sighted in.

I do wish they added a bit more beef to the slide rails too. This is not a negative since I have not had a problem, they are just a bit small for my liking. I am willing to trade that for overall value and function.

I was very tempted to get this for a truck gun, I chose the SAR B6P instead. The two things that swayed me were - since this was a pistol that was going to be in my vehicle I didn't need to worry too much about size or weight so I wanted to get a full-sized pistol that held 17 or so rounds (although the mag that came with my B6P only holds 15 rounds). And then honestly, the second thing that swayed me toward the SAR was the Taurus reputation for making problem guns - I'm not Taurus bashing, I just had trepidation about making a Taurus purchase.

The deals that I saw had the PT111 G2 at $199.99 + $17.00 S&H so it was $217.00 and the B6P was 25 bucks more so I went with the B6P.

Taurus has a much better service policy than EAA. If you need to send a SAR in for warranty work - you pay to have it shipped to EAA, there is not even a question of them paying the freight to have a pistol sent to them, and you have to include $20.00 for the return shipping.

Thanks NINEX19,,,

Thanks NINEX19,,,
That's exactly what I wanted to know.

Basically I guess it's just like my older (pre-S) LC9,,,
It's an internal hammer DA/SA with double-strike capability.

It too has no decocker but does have a manual safety.

Thanks again for the info.

Aarond these guns are SA/DA The striker is precocked & the first trigger pull is single action. If the round does not go off you can pull the trigger again & you get a double action trigger pull to give you the second strike. At first I really didn't like the single action trigger. It feels smoother to me in double action mode & there isn't a lot of difference in the weight to pull it. As I posted above I don't get the point in the restrike capability thing.

I actually looked hard at this pistol when shopping for a smaller, budget pistol for my daughter ... she opted for the Ruger LC9, but after a while, decided she hated the trigger (and co-opted one of my SIG P-228s)

But, given my experience with our two Taurus PT-145s (both flawless, one amazingly accurate), I wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of the PT-111s. As an aside, every Taurus I've owned has been great, particularly at their price-point ... (I've sold or traded Wilsons, Berettas, SIGs and Les Baers while hanging on to my trusty 25 year old PT-92).

I've had a G2 Millenium for about 18 months now and its been flawless. I'm very pleased with it. The trigger does take some getting used too, because its got a long travel, but a nice break.

Bought one about a year ago. Shoots great, wanted it because it is a little slimmer than my Glock 26. Took my wife shooting last fall and she was not so happy with her Gen2 Glock 19, so I let her try the Taurus. She was hammering the target out to 20 yards, and now it is her pistol. Oh well, I still carry the G26 and now have a second Gen2 G19 is my arsenal. Might look into another Taurus G2 though.

The deals I have seen on slickguns would still put these between $180-$200 after rebate. I never saw the PT 140 down in the $200 and under range but now with the rebate I am seeing deals on it too. Now I find myself wondering how one of them would shoot. I'm not doing anything right this instant but I find myself thinking it might not be a bad idea to pick up a second 9mm or maybe the .40 version while they are so cheap.

md2lgyk-I believe they lowered their prices across the board after the insanity of the past few years passed & the gun market fell off some. If you were closer I would offer to meet & let you put a few rounds through mine. It isn't the nicest pistol I've ever owned but for $200 I consider it a bargain.
