New Taurus PT111 G2 Millenium

There's gotta be some quality difference in the newer model. When I bought my PT-111 in 1997 it was around $300. That'd be over $400 in today's money. Makes me wonder why the new model is so inexpensive.

Actually everything indicates that in the last 3 or 4 years they've seen a sharp IMPROVEMENT in quality versus the old ones. I've certainly had no issues with mine and I've had 300-400 rounds through it.

They may have just decided to drop margins and try to make it up in volume. Lord knows they're selling a ton of these things, and I once heard that a Glock costs about $75 to actually manufacture. I'm guessing the PT-111 has a similar cost - possibly even lower as the manual labor part will be cheaper in Brazil versus the US or Austria.

I believe they lowered their prices across the board after the insanity of the past few years passed & the gun market fell off some. If you were closer I would offer to meet & let you put a few rounds through mine. It isn't the nicest pistol I've ever owned but for $200 I consider it a bargain.

Thanks for the offer. I've been looking for a gun I can leave in the car so may take another look at the PT-111. Price is certainly right.

Hey, thanks for the offer. My grandson and his wife are stationed at Moody AFB, so I know what it trip it is from WV. Been looking for a cheap gun I could leave in the car, and maybe the G2 is it.

The PSA $199 deal is gone, I'm wondering if anyone will have another deal like that while this rebate is being offered...

From a quick search I didn't see any, but I'd keep an eye out on Slickguns. PSA wasn't the only company offering that price (I got mine from Gunbuyer.com as they had it at that price with free shipping - pretty sure PSA you still had to pay to ship it). Gunbuyer is up to $235 now, but it's out of stock.

I'm sure that like any other manufacturer Taurus does production runs. It seems that these deals run in batches, they suddenly appear online with a super-low price, then the PT111's get bought up and they're out of stock for a while while other retailers still have them savailable for $225~ish amd up. Then they suddenly appear online with a super-low price and it starts over.My next gun might be something I just keep in the bathroom that I don't care if it rusts a little.

I REALLY fricken hate it when I'm in the shower and I hear something go BUMP. I can't tell if its a noise outside, or if someone just kicked down my door. If I had a gun with me in the bathroom I would have some peace of mind knowing that if it is a home invader, they may catch me with my pants down but they won't catch me unarmed - ala Chuck de Caro

At $150 I wouldn't get upset if there was a little rust, but then I was thinking of a Hi-Point because I don't think they even rust. The internal parts are oiled and the external stuff hardly has any iron in it - maybe the extractor?

Or maybe I should just get a dog :(

After the rebate the deals I'm seeing now would work out better than the one I got. I guess the question is how long would it take to get the rebate money back.

Count Zero I had rust issues with a Kel Tec P-11 I was carrying. It was my fault really as I had learned from some of rcmodels posts that if you use Johnson's Paste Wax on a blued firearm it will keep it from rusting. I had cleaned the gun & did not reapply the wax. I opted to spray the slide with enamel engine paint & baked it on in the oven. I know there are products made specifically for guns but I was not really concerned about the appearance of that pistol. It isn't really what I would consider a showpiece & it solved my issue.

Thanks for reminding me - I waxed my R9 this morning.

I started using Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax for the exterior of my guns slides. Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax is fairly oily, it also is PH neutral and has no abrasives in it.

Even so - I wouldn't expect a blued or parkerized steel gun to stand up to a steamy bathroom without eventually rusting.

The online stores that were selling them for $199 aren't going to sell them for that price now that there is a rebate. They will likely sell them for $249 so that with the rebate your final cost will be about the same.

Its too bad some of these gun makers don't sell directly to the public, I guess there would be a backlash from their channel distributors, but was that $50.00 rebate meant for the gun stores or meant for new customers?

That is pretty much what I have been seeing. The only down side I see is having $50 hanging out there while you wait for the rebate to be processed.

No wonder, given the price point. Also, it doesn't look like its price point. AFAIK, the model series has a pretty good rep, too.
