I recently purchased a used PT145 and on the initial time I shot it I experienced at least 12 or more failures in the 139 rounds fired. Almost all where failures to feed that had not even started to move the round forward, the slide was in the rearward position. On a few of the failures the slide closed all the way on an empty chamber with rounds still in the mag. The salesman who is also an armorer roughly guessed from the wear on the internal parts that the gun had been fired between 150-200 times before I shot it.
I called Taurus and they said I could either send them the gun and mags or just the mags and they will exchange the mags for me.
Also the salesman/armorer said he could test shoot it for me and try to determine and fix the problem for free.
Should I;
1.Send gun and mags to Taurus?
2.Send only the mags to Taurus?
3.Let the salesman/armorer try and fix it?
4.Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Taurus comes with life-time warranty.

I would let the sales/armorer take a look as PT145 has known issues with magazine QC.

If he can determine that it is the magazine, then you would just need to return the magazines.
I have a Gen3 Mil Pro PT145 DA/SA and it never experienced FTF/FTE and even feeds SWC bullets without any issue. But some other owners of PT145 had their magazines replaced and resolved the FTF issue.

Also, older generations of PT145 magazines won't work in new Gen3 PT145 with DA/SA trigger so I would make sure the sales person/armorer checked that.

hello there, i own a pt145 and my best advice is shoot taurus an email and send the mags back, just the mags should do, be sure you tell em you want the most current mags

This is THR.

That response does nothing to help the OP.

Really? How about you look option #4 in the OP. The High Road should also include a policy regarding reading comprehension and jumping to conclusions. He asked for "any other suggestions" and I provided just that. If you don't think that my post was "THR", perhaps you should reconsider. Furthermore, I'll take a 1911 over the Taurus any day of the week. If I were in his situation, I would do just what I suggested in post #3.

What if someone has a similar problem with a Taurus PT92? He should get a 1911 to solve the problem?

What if that someone has a problem with a Taurus 1911?

Just simply buying a 1911 is not the "end-all" solution to non-1911 pistol problems.

Try telling someone who has problem with their HK, Sig, Glock, etc. to buy a 1911 to solve the problem ... Should they buy a Taurus 1911?

If I were in his situation, I would ignore everything you say.

So you are contributing and being as helpful as I am right now, and I haven't said anything helpful...

You could try buying one new mag and see if it helps. If it works properly then you know it's the mags. Then you won't have to send the gun just to get the mags replaced and you have a spare. I had a friend with a 145 and it did the same thing only his was brand new. The feed lips on the mag were keeping the round from coming all the way up and the slide was just going over top of them. 1 thing to remember the smaller the gun is the less it's going to like bigger rounds. If you look at kahrs pm series the 9 works the best 40 is okay but a lot of people have feed issues and the 45 seems like a bunch of feeding problems.

We're not taking about HK, Sig, Glock etc, are we? So, your point is moot. If he had a Taurus 1911, I would not advise him to get a 1911. That would be pretty dumb and your argument makes no sense in that aspect. Perhaps the OP never considered a 1911. Maybe, he never heard of a 1911. Did you ever think of that? I know a lot of guys that are into pistols/firearms and when I tell them about 1911s, they have no idea what I am talking about. Does it mean that I am not being "high road" when I start telling my good friends about the 1911 platform? I would have loved for someone to point me in the direction of the 1911 before I made some of my purchases.

I think it's funny how everyone talks about "high road" yet they are just as much of a contributor to the supposed problem as the people that they are accusing/bashing. To me, it's rather low-road to try to publicly point out how some is not being "high road". This is a gun board and people post opinions/tastes/advice. If you disagree, it does not make your opinion/view better.... just makes your's different.

So, as per option number four from post #1, I would still advise the OP to look at acquiring a 1911, rather than the Taurus. I am sure that aftermarket parts (mags and accessories) are more common and cheaper. I'd be willing to bet that most 1911s are better made. I have a Taurus, so it's not as if I am a Taurus basher. Conversely, I do have a 1911 and the Taurus is not close in quality. Lastly, if you don't like my take on the OP's situation, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies in advance.

OK, let's go back and help the OP here...

I had a PT145 once and had the same problem of FTF. Many reviews have blamed it on the magazine. The gun is good, it's only the magazines. Clean thoroughly your magazine and lube it well. Also try other ammo, HP and FMJ, if the cleaning doesn't help. Good luck.

The PT145 has a real nasty habit of being real particular as to how you hold her. Gotta hold her tight, real tight or else you will limp wrist it. I am an old 6'2" retired Ranger and the guy who told me I had a limp wrist almost bought the farm! Has nothing to do with size, just a good tight grip. I gave up an asked the old man at the range to shoot the pistol and he did not have one FTF. I took it and had four out of ten. He was watching me and yep, he confirmed it, limp wrist! Go here for an article about the problem, good luck and just give her time! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limp_wristing
