New to handguns

Folks, please read his posts. He says he already has a BB gun and a deer rifle.

I'd second the air pistol, though. Great, cheap practice.

I'd also see if there are any sportsmen's or shooter's clubs in your area.

As for the user name, at first it made me decide not to answer, until I saw it was apparently named after the movie, so changing it could be good.

I think you'll have a hard time with a Beretta 92 style gun. the trigger reach is very long. By the time your 16 or 17, you should be able to reach the trigger just fine, but until then, you'll find it a very frustrating gun to shoot.

Did you fill out the COPPA forms before registering? Did your parents fax approval to the administrator? Or did you lie about your age on initial registration?

TWBB-first, remember to tell us when you change your name...lol

Yes, .22 handguns can be expensive, but I'm sure some of your airsoft guns cost about as much. As you know, you get what you pay for. My brother just "got" the P22 (he's 16) and it's a blast to shoot. It's not match grade, but it's plenty accurate. It has a small handle which is nice too. He has the 5" barrel and the laser. I don't recommend the longer barrel (get the 4"), but I DO recommend the laser. It's totally worth it and a blast to use. (I'm talking about the custom walther laser) The problem with the 5" barrel is that it makes it more involved to take apart the gun-or even just take off the laser. He also likes that the P22 is small enough that he doesn't need a holster all the time.

If you go to a gun store with your Dad you should have them let you look at a P22 and see how it feels in your hand. Try out the DA/SA and safety.

At 12? Get yourself a good air pistol. They are VERY cheap to shoot, and you can set up a range indoors. The Daisy 747 is OK for the price. The Izh-46 is an excellent value.

Then, get yourself over to the NRA website and find a safety course. Take that. Then look at the NRA and USA Shooting match schedules...participate in air pistol matches.

Check the Bullseye Pistol and targettalk.com boards for coaching information.

It may not be sexy, but precision shooting lays the foundation for EVERYTHING else. Sight alignment & trigger control are essential.

Twenty rounds a day, a match every month...and in six years time, you'll be very, very good. It's how I did it.
