Hello I have been lurking around and new to reloading. I have a couple of friends I work with that have helped me gather the right equipment. I am shooting goverment 1911 series 70 with no add ons as of know. I am looking for if anyone can help. I am going to try starting with 231 and WST powder, Win Primers, and Rainier 200 grain RN bullets and looking for load data. I am using single stage press and looking to start shooting IDPA in spring months. If there is any help out there?

Look for lead data for those bullets, and work up as usual. WW231 and several styles of 200 grain cast bullets have worked very well in my 1911A1 without any problems. Getting the correct OAL will take a bit of adjusting.

Just as a guide for what is safe in my pistol, I liked to use 5-5.5 grains of WW231. The 5.5 grains is right at max, or .1 grain under max according to what Winchester published data I am reading.

Rainier's aren't really worth the price. Montana Gold and Rozedist.com sell true jacketed bullets for the same or less than you can buy Rainiers. If you are concerned about lead fumes, shoot the Zero JHP's or MG CMJ bullets. W231 is a nice powder.

You don't need two powders that similar. I've loaded a lot of Win 231 over the years but a lot of people like WST for .45 loads slightly below factory... which pretty well describes IDPA CDP.

IMO, you are on the right track--that is, the advice here to try 5.0 to 5.5 gr. of 231 under your 200-gr. bullet is an excellent starting point.

I would also concur with recommending lead bullets, unless you personally are concerned about health factors with it. (I'm not concerned, but see other threads here for that discussion.)

You probably will need to sort out your LOA--so don't build a lot of a given recipe until you know what functions best in your 1911.
