new to the HK scene

I just had my 1st oppotunity to handle a "USP" and a P2000. I kept hearing so many goo dthings about them. I really like the feel of them. But are they really worth the high price tag? Am I just finding really high prices on them or what? Anywhere that has them around 5?

first off, yes, they are well worth every penny. some searching here on THR and www.hkpro.com will reveal owners that love their USPs and P2000's. there are a lot of people that balk at the high price tag, but most of them haven't owned one. they are built like tanks, ultra reliable, eat anything, are accurate, and easy in the recoil department. my .40 Compact is closing in on 10,000 rounds and the 3 failures were ammo related. it just plain works.

as for price, used ones can often be had in the $500 range. a new one will set you back closer to $650+ depending on which model/mode/caliber.

the USC on the other hand is one heckuvan overpriced beast. fun to shoot and accurate for sure but $1k for a carbine with only ten round mags? no thanks.

you can't go wrong with an H&K pistol.

I was in the market for a polymer .45 untill Yesterday. It was between the USP and the Springfield XD. I went with the XD becuase of the price and the reviews . If I wasnt trying to buy a Eotech for my AR I might of went with the USP. I will own one though. I can tell you this they are realy nice and reliable.
 
I like my USPf 40. 13 years of reliability and some of it in less than nice weather conditions.
 
You should

be able to find a used one for 5-6ish. A new one for 5 ish, forget it!

Are they worth the money? Not really an answerable questions. Can you get a pistol that is just as accurate and reliable for less, most definitely, but if you still like the HKs more, than that doesn't do you much good.

Each has been flawless in operation and very accuarte as has another not pictured (P7). #6 should be here in March (P2000sk)

Wether they're worth it to you, taht's your own decision to make. I was leary about soending the big moeny at first, After a while I was sold on thier quality, reliabilty and accuracy. The first one (USP40) I bought the day the Brady Bill was signed. Haven't hiccuped once. That obviously led to more. If I didn't feel they were worth it, I'd be shotting something else.


Remember, you get what you pay for. ;)
 
Well, H&K definitely has what one could call a "scene." Kind of like Ferrari has a "scene" made largely of fans who will never own Ferraris but get to drive them in video games.:D

What are your intended purposes for the USP/P2000? Concealed carry, range gun, match guns? The P2000 and the USP are quite different. The USP compact however, is hardly compact. I felt that this has to be noted since for CCW it might be a little large for some.

What type of action do you prefer? Single action, DAO, or DA/SA? The USP has an advantage (in my case) because it has the ability to be carried in condition 1 (cocked and locked) or in DA/SA. I felt the decocker on the P2000 to be in an awkward position behind the slide.

Now there is of course the LEM which is a "double action" trigger for both the P2000 and USP if that's what you desire.

Lastly, if you dont mind used, there are some very good condition USP's for sale for a lower price than the P2000's are currently demanding.

I want one or the other also, but I cant decide which yet. So I'll jus continue reading this thread... :D

Yup, we get to shoot them HK's in Counterstrike, and drive Ferrari's in Ferrari Challenge! :evil:

Got a bunch of 10rnd mags for it as well as the original hi-caps it came with. Just happend to have the less-fillable one in it. :eek:

The Elite has a couple hi-caps with it also. Oh, it's not affording the Elite that's the tough part, it's the P7 models. There's another residing here besides that one. Just too darn fun and addictive. :D

I want to get something for carry but mainly range shooting and home protection. I am pretty well set on a P99. My wife really wants a glock. But I like the way the USP feels.
I prefer DAO.

if there are any other suggestions for a DAO polymer frame gun (.40 preferred or 9MM) about that size let me know.
 
CDNN is awesome

If you're are going to be range shooting, than you most definitely want a fullsize gun (and arguably a steel frame but...). Compacts are for carry.

I don't see this 499.99 HK in CDNN. That was the previous catalog. I doubt they actually have any of those left.
The cheapest one I see is 599, and it comes with 10rnd mags (is that standard for the compact 357/40?).

CDNN is listing the SW99 in 40SW for $339 (Same as the P99 right?).

You better buy what the wifey wants!

Rent/Borrow all and shoot them. You can always ask if there are any highroad members in your area with the guns you want. I am sure they'd be more than happy to let you shoot them.

There's the new S&W MP. It looks promising, but I haven't shot one yet.
The XD is extremely popular, and looks to be a good gun (again haven't shot one yet).
The Sig Pros are probably a decent gun, but I don't know if they have a DA0 version.

None of the guns usually suggested are ever clearly superior. People have pet brands. If you like an HK, buy an HK. I don't care for HKs, but I can admit you probably wouldn't regreat buying one. Never buy a gun without having shot one first.

Boats, I must admit that was pretty funny, and I have an HK (a humble-by-HK-standards USP9). Some time ago, long before I registered on this board, you had a post I came across, either here or some other gun forum, about the USP. I don't recall the details, but it was narrative in form, about some guy fingering the USP in his holster, wondering which direction on the control lever was "safe" and which was "decock". It began in a "It was a cool night. The jungle air wafted over the..." style. Totally hysterical. You wouldn't happen to have a link to it, would you? Legendary HK humor, hopefully funny to HK lovers and bashers alike. :D
 
Nice But....

...they just seem too damn big! And I'm a big guy who can carry a 686+ or 1911 or G19 in standard Texas summer gear of t-shirts/shorts. When I handled a used USP compact in .45 it was about as compact as a brick.

I just think they are fine for duty type carry for cops or the militairy, but for CCW, given size and cost then (at least for me) there seem to be better options.

Who knows? Maybe next week if I handle one again I'mm warm a bit more up to it....:D

I didn;t like the Sig or the XD. Neither of them felt good in my hand.

Nowhere around where I live rents guns (that I know of). Anyone out there around Blaine WA?

Go to the meeting forum on this site. Put up a post titled something like
Anybody live near Blaine, WA? Need to try HK before buying

Regarding the Sig PRO. They didn't feel good to me either, until I changed the backstrap. They come with at least two backstraps. There was a night and day difference between the two.

I have a USP in 9 on the way, and may possibly pick up a used one in the next couple of days.
 
I just got my USP compact 9mm from CDNN last week. It shoots like a dream. Only thing I'm having problems with right now are getting the Mepro's on them aligned correctly.

They had a promotion at CDNN where they were giving you a 10 round mag for every standard capacity mag you bought. I bought 5 of the 13 round mags and got 5 of the 10 round mags for free.
