Finally got out to the range yesterday. Spent most of the week either redoing our bathroom, replacing front end parts in murano, driving the wife's SUV to set computer emission monitors, to pass emission test and moved 3 rooms full of boxes for a friend's yard sale.
So I've had a busy week, I took 3 rifles. My 223, after swapping stocks with the 243, shot 3 in low at 25 yds. I expected a poi change do I rezeroed and shot several 7/8 in groups with 55 gr spbt load 26.0 HR I 4895.that load shot a 1.5 in group at 200 and 30 straight hits on steel at 300 meters even when the wind picked up. Tested some 65 gr sgk loads, still have more to shoot but they look pretty good so far.
With the 243 the longer stock helped with felt recoil, as well as the rubber recoil pad, but had to crawl the stock to see through the scope. I'll need to either change optic or mounts to bring it back farther. I fired 35 rounds through it 15 factory ppu 90 gr and a load workup with h4350 100 gr spbt. I started at 25 yds the rifle shot low, but a zero change brought 8 of 10 hits at 300 steel plate. My load workup went OK I think my accuracy load is between 39.5 and 40 gr both showed promise and at 300 I missed 2 out of 10, 2 39.5 and 1 40.0.
I only fired 9 rounds of 7mm08 all at 300. Hit 7 of 9, a little disappointing, but not too bad for my first time shooting since March.
While I was there I met 4 other members one came after I arrived. I had built a target stand with a reclaimed pallet and drove it to the 200 yd line I fired one shot at a piece of 3/8 plywood I used to mount targets, there was a barcode sticker on it, I hit the center of the sticker. Anyway the first man was retired shooting m700 223's with cast lead bullets, his own, he was going to go to the opposite side that I was on but his truck wouldn't start back up. He asked me what he should do. To him you're here might as well shoot. I did try to get his truck going and finally after cleaning up the terminals on the starter it fired up. While we were doing that 3 other men, in their 30's set up. I let one of them shoot 2 of my rifles, the 223 and 7mm at 300 steel plate. He really liked them and was quite impressed with their accuracy. He also mentioned that he had inherited 3 rifles a 270, a 308, and a 280 rem. I gave him some info on the calibers and their capabilities, because he didn't know much about them.
