I had a very pleasant outing at our local National Forest range yesterday.

I took my Kel-Tec Sub-2000, my M1, my Glock 19 and my Kel-Tec P-32.

When I got there I was sharing the range with a man with two young boys (8-10 age) and another gentleman with some really neat looking AR-15's.

The two kids are shooting .22's, but one approaches me as I'm unfolding the Kel-Tec carbine and asks about it. I tell him what it is and he asks about the other guns I brought. He gets real excited about the Glock, so I offer to let him shoot it if it's OK with adult he's with (probably not his dad, b/c of obvious race difference).

Kid shoots Glock, big grin results. I blast away with the Kel-Tec rifle, getting a few jams, but still having fun.

I do some shooting with the M1, and notice that one of the AR's that AR-guy has is creating WAY more noise than any .223 AR I've ever fired.

My curiousity is piqued and I wander over during the next cease fire and ask what AR-guy is shooting. He answers in an English accent that it's a .50 Beowulf. (see www.alexanderarms.com). We talk for a while and it turns out that he is an employee (maybe owner?) of this company and is checking out these rifles for malfunctions as part of warranty work on them. We talk about AR's in general and what his company has in the works, then HE OFFERS TO LET ME SHOOT THE .50, just so he knows that the gun will function with a different shooter.

Some surprisingly mild punches to the shoulder and one big grin later, I pack up and leave. I now need to figure out a reason to get a .50 Beowulf AR.

vmi93 ....... yep, nice report there and glad you had a good session ......... and what a bonus . the .50 cal. A good read and thx.

I am about to write up my range session .. where my wife (as far as I was concwerned, excelled!).

Haven't had a range experience like that, sounds cool though to try anything for free!

I think I look too young, I look like a kid who doesn't even know the basic rules. Or maybe 'cause I don't have electronic muffs and can't hear most anything unless they are right next to me talking loudly. :D

My wife finally agreed to go to the range with me. She shot my Ruger P85, P94 and PC9 Carbine. She did not want to shoot my P90. She said last night that the recoil was not as bad as she was expecting. She will be going back again. ;)

Sounds like a blast literly. Ive been reading on those 50's they look impressive. But atleast you had a decent time and dry

Darrin, his brother, friend of brother, guy from a company we do buisness with, Spanky McFly(rod), and I went to the range today. Rain all day. Nothing worse than having to huddle together under the short covered area of the range. But we had fun. Everyone shooting everyones guns. As usual my Hi Point carbine was a grin gun as its so fun for its price. My Mosin-Nagant always a giggle gun with bayonette extended. Darrin's new Mossy Shotty. His brothers Ruger p95. Rod's USP 40. Other guy's 357 wheel, 25mag pocket pistol, and browning Hi Power. Nother guys 92f. Norinco 9. another Mosin. An AK47 clone. Mauser M2. My sw99. Darrins astra 90. Rod's 22/45. Rod's winchester 12g pump sawed off.

Needless to say lots of guns to play with. we had a good time despite the rain. I was happy the sw99 still shooting where i point it but still pretty big groups. Hi Point was always fun, despite a hair low at close range. Mosin hit something no matter where I pointed it. But shooting that Hi Power made me really think about finding one for a carry gun. I liked that thing, felt good, plus thin.

yep Bowlcut, the hi power is a good choice IMO ..... tho I use either P95 or 97 ...... in some ways my FEG clone HP is the most comfortable ... and accurate too i'd say .... however, i choose to carry a D/A with decocker and like it ..... probably will mean my FEG will stay pretty ''minty''. Worth a look BTW if you want to save some cost ..... IMO anways.

I did have an early genuine HP way back .... always grieved over its loss but .... gotta say ... FEG feels damn near identical.
