Nickel Plating a new 1911

I have a new 1911 on order and should get it this week. Its a Rock Island .45 and has a parkerized finish. I'd like to have it nickel plated. My question is should I break the gun in with a couple hundred round, then have it plated, OR should I take it from my FFL directly to the gunsmith for plating?

Well one things for sure.

I would not make any lasting mods like a $250-$350 buck plating job until after I found out if it was going to work or not.

Or need factory return for warranty work.

I would shoot the snot out of it before doing anything to it that would likely void the factory warranty.

Thanks RC. I had thought about the warranty. I asked the gunsmith and he said to break it in too. He mentioned that the nickel plating will add material, so better for it to wear on the steel now and not the plating later. Luckily, I just reloaded a couple hundred rounds of 45s.

Skid be sure to let everyone know how the finished product looks, prefrerably with pics! I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing with the exact same gun. Mine's more than broken in, though...

What plater were you using? I have heard South Ridge near Puyallup is nickel plating now. I've had a vague interest to have a Norinco's frame plated and was starting to look around for someone.
