I was charged with a felony 7 years ago and upon going to court it was dropped to a class b misdemeanor , district attorney laughed and said the felony charges was bs and told me to pay 250 bucks and be done with it. I also have 2 misdemeanor charges marijuana and pain killers. All 7-8 yrs ago. I'm trying to purchase a rifle online and would like to know y'all's opinion on the nics checks. I went to academy today and they wouldn't run me till I paid and said if I fail I gotta pay 15% restocking fee so I didn't do it. My wife went on and tried purchasing a handgun and she has a clean record and they put her on a delay, academy said it could be up to a month for her pistol bc they don't do the 3 day release while still delayed their policy is a month. I'm not worried bout her she's clean record just wondering bout me.. Darn Obama and his rants... Thanks in advance...oh ya were in texas btw

Should be fine as long as that misdemeanor is not a domestic violence charge. Also you can't have any restraining orders against you, been dishonorably discharged from the military, renounced US citizenship, be a current drug user, been judged mentally incompetent, or have any charges pending. Think that's all of them.

Past misdemeanor drug charges shouldn't be an issue, but you are committing perjury if you lie about current use on the form.

Ya all my charges where years ago back in high school senior year partying with the wrong folks. No current charges haven't been in trouble in 7 years. Ima go on n get this mp15 it's 650 so y not lol

See what gets me is my lil brother has a possession of marijuana charge class b misdemeanor that he is still going to court for hasnt been convicted yet, and he bought his ar last week no problems. Was hoping to get mine so we could hit the range. Just the way they do things now seems over the top with legit people being delayed or denied. Guy at academy says he been denied before and he used his social and had to appeal and get a PIN number. Gonna have to look into my chl any one know any info on that, I know the background is more strict so my 7 year old weed and pill charge might disqualify me I think I read 10 years since last misdemeanor drug charge and one year for nics background. Is that correct??

I've never been delayed. To my understanding the biggest reason for a delay is having the same name as a convicted felon. The bg issues are nothing new and happened under Bush too, Obama hasn't really changed anything.

Never knew that ccw bg checks were more strict, but I'm a boring person so I didn't have anything to worry about.

I get delayed all the time with a misdemeanor.
Its a fact of life. I rarely buy from dealers anymore just because of the delay. Kinda sobers me up at the wrong time during an impulse buy

Buy fresh, buy local is what I do.

Are you sure you really want to air your family laundry list of felonies for all of us to read? So far it's at least two drug abusers, one person lying on his BATFE form, and two people conspiring to circumvent the NICS in order to obtain a firearm for a possibly prohibited person.


Isn't there another hobby you could take up?

how can there be a "few" purchases if he is now wondering about the NICS process

What does Obama have to do with it? NICS was required to be established by a law passed in 1993 and began operation in 1998.

Looks like the OP has some real legal problems and needs a lawyer -- not the Internet.

It also looks like the OP may possibly be thinking about trying to "pull a fast one", in which case he doesn't need and won't get our help. He should also understand that law enforcement monitors social networking sites. This is a public place, and he can have no expectation of privacy.

In any case, we don't have all the information and would be wasting our time to continue.
