I saw an article which showed a three dot type night and combat sight for a 686 and I'd like to try something like that on my M66 (purists need not panic--it has the lock).

I need something that really pops out to grab my eyes in all conditions--they are getting weary with age.

Meprolight sells night sights.
Looks like a pretty easy install.
Front just replaces the red ramp insert with a tritium vial.
The rear sight is a whole new blade.
Seems like it should take about an hour to do.

Midway USA carries them.

I was considering the same thing for one of my 66's also, but I don't know what size blade to get, as I don't know where to measure the current blade so as to get the same size. Right now they shoot dead nut from 15 yds. to 40 yards without any adjustment, so I don't want to change that aspect.

What I did was paint the white outline factory blade with Tru Glow, and then drilled a very small indent in the front ramp and filled it with Tru Glow, works great.

I just had this done to my 66-2 snub. I hate red ramp inserts, and now the gun has great low-light capability. Strongly recommended!

Frankly, the red insert doesn't do it for me except in the best of light. Black is a tad better, but with my eyes I think I will try the Meprolight set, Need something that really pops.

I refuse to buy from Midway unless there is no alternative. Shipping charges atr too high.

I like the idea but have had bad luck tubes easily breaking on my Williams Fire sights. That has put me off fiber optic sights.

You could call the boys at cylinder and slide. I had them put a xs big dot night sight on the nose and their fixed u notch sight on the rear. It's the same setup as the smith night guard series. They did a great job and five week turnaround. Got a personal call from the gunsmith doing all the work before he did anything. Some of the best service I've had in awhile. Give them a call.

What gun did you mount the XS sights on? I just ran across them and like the line and dot arrangement. How does it work for you?

Their website is confusing as to whether they are available for the M66, will check tomorrow.

Only the 19/7 and 66/4 and later had a pinned front sight that can be changed.
(Depending on barrel length.)

Prior to those model changes, the front sight & ramp was forged in one peice as part of the barrel.

To replace the sight would require milling off the old one, and milling a new slot for the new one.

Are you talking about the ramp RC, cause the ramp is pinned on my 66-2 and -5. And the red insert is obviously an insert, thus replaceable.

I don't know anything about the later models, like the 66-6 and newer. I haven't even seen one of the newer 66's in person yet.

No, I am talking about the ramp and the sight being forged as part of the barrel itself on the earlier guns.

Front sights are not replaceable without a milling machine & money!

Here is a 4" 66-1, and a 6" 19-4 with forged front sights.

No pins, no cracks, just part of the barrel.
